Basically, bar staff were able to take their pick, so they went to the ones with better paym as a result, the places paying less found it harder to recruit. In the end, a lot of places went under. I guess it drove up both wages and quality.

Its not a joke. The vast majority of it comes from 0% balance transfers. I have enough cash on hand and/or assets I could liquidate to pay it off, but theres no sense in doing that before the promotional 0% period ends since its incurring no interest.

There are a couple cards I use regularly for daily purchases and whatnot which I do pay off in full monthly as to not incur interest charges, but the 0% stuff stays out there and I just pay off the balances in full at the time when the promo expires.

Whilst I never did eat out much, I have long since stopped eating out altogether - even a little sandwich or coffee shop have those machines that always ask for tips so I progressively just been patroning less and less. Which is actually working out well for my finances here all things considered.

I don't like a system that pits me against servers whilst the big mice make bank, or where I have to do some mental social calculation of worth just to pay for something and get on with my damn day, but I still tipped because the mice are so large and the servers so small tipping is just how it works for them to survive.

The only winning move I could end up justifying to myself was just not playing.

Tipping culture won't die because we aren't using the government to force employers to heel, and the employers have polticians in their pockets. Not because not enough people are refusing to tip.
