Yeah, I've seen that happen with water. I've only heard non-american and and few Americans than say wah-ter, most people say wha-der. Wha-ter won by a large margin. Species is one that is widely produced differently, so I don't think people care as much.

This is why I started hating people when I did tech support. I dealt with a lot of really stupid people in the 5.5 years I did that line of work.

The people who just needed help with some problem were fine, but there are a lot of idiots who are extremely hard to deal with. Or they're hilarious. Or both.

It is telling that the wingnut response to this question is to focus only on the body count, leading trivially to their desired conclusion that 9/11 was "worse" (which isn't the question that was posed, by the way).

The more thoughtful answers where people picked 9/11 related to the downstream consequences of the attack much more so than the attack itself. In particular, the W Bush Iraq War fuckup was in no way an inevitable consequence of 9/11 -- it was a deliberate policy choice by those shitbirds to use 9/11 as an excuse to do what that faction of the GOP has always wanted to do in the middle east.

And of course the only correct answer to the question as posed (I'm mean like that) is 1/6. Literal treason from a sitting US president, with the connivance of his entire party, is literally unbeatable as a danger to the US unless/until we actually get into a real Civil War 2.0 scenario (God forbid).

They have every reason to feel the do about this man, and they aren't wrong. He is a horrible hateful individual, and anyone calling him out on that is not wrong, and I would never tell them otherwise.

I can't do it though. I won't stop anyone else from doing it, but I can't join that. Even though there are many reasons why I would join alongside others, all I see is a person shot and now killed (presumingly), and I just can't look past that. It's no different than anyone else who is shot and killed. I'm just not wired that way.

There's a difference between acknowledge he was a bad and reveling in his death. One can have empathy for his suffering and the pain that will be brought on his family, but not have sympathy for Kirk.
