For example, he owned a large lot of land adjacent to his neighborhood and wanted to build an independent film studio for up-and-coming artists to have a place to film at low cost. The other people in the neighborhood complained so much that he ended up canceling the whole project and instead donated the land to the township under the explicit agreement that it can only be used for low-income housing:

I'm pretty sure him selling Star Wars to Disney and then donating the money was similarly motivated. He had to know Disney would drive the franchise into the ground, but he also didn't seem to love how crazy and obsessive fans were, so giving them their monkeys paw wish and then using his profits for charity absolutely lines up with something he would do.
