tbh it's a really good example of why community competitive rules are a good thing- if people played without them with the knowledge we have now, it'd just straight up be boring and unfun, with very little team variety. smogon tiers are players saving the game from itself

The gen 1 pokemon games. The people who made them had little to no game design experience and so the mechanics are held together with duct tape and prayers, and a ton of things straight up do not work as intended.

hyper beam not needing a recharge if you ko, sleep being super overtuned, freeze being permanent, special being one stat, crits (+ focus energy being bugged), missing 100% accuracy moves, AI spamming type-super-effective moves even if they were non damaging, wrap/etc incapacitating mons, the bug type just massively sucking...

that gen was a HOT mess of glitches and bad balance

tiger woods sucks but infidelity is on a completely different scale than doing allegedly shit to kids or vick's dogfighting ring. infidelity's mostly something the people involved in the marriage need to work out. though the scale of it was pretty ridiculous, i still just don't give a shit. the DUI was worse

hot take but dark cloud 1 is (or at least, can very easily be) ruined by the weapon system. let it break and you lose what is the equivalent of all your levels. it's just so insanely punishing

scroll of taiwu had the basis of a great game but the devs keep fucking around reinventing everything instead of listening to their playerbase and finishing out the game

destiny remake has the best gameplay, graces f based its CC system on it

nop, you gradually unlock new mission types as you progress but it's all procedurally generated. doesn't really fit with this kind of list, but I guess you could try to do one of each of the main mission types? the game leans heavily multiplayer, so you could cut it shorter than that if you're playing solo

it's just so fun and came out when I was meeting up with the fgc squad at my college. extended combos are my weakest point in fighting games, and I was pretty bad at the game, but it's maybe one of the most fun spectacles to watch... as long as it's not zero and vergil loops

yeah, LLM's work through brute force to try to replicate what the average result would be. they fundamentally have to scour through a ton of data all the time if they want to stay relevant

meanwhile a lot of what you see in games is smoke and mirrors meant to minimize the amount of work done. one server can host a lot of instances, depending on the game, and they aren't inherently trying to push it to the brink all of the time

people largely have a problem with generative AI, not tools. the problem with AI in art spaces is when it steals others' work, not when it modifies your original work

I don't know if I could play Skyrim without a couple vital mods and dozens more fun ones tbh

Yep. Legendary Edition is old skyrim complete with DLCs, Special Edition is the remaster (still includes the DLCs), and the Anniversary Edition is SE but with some extra official paid mods all included. If you can get SE cheaper it might be worth it because who cares about creation club stuff

Basically just make sure it's not base Skyrim or Legendary Edition and you're golden. I'm not even sure if you can still get them on newer consoles, the remaster probably runs better

steam input itself should generally try to emulate 360 xinput controllers too, might need some fiddling around in the settings

I will say absolutely fucking nothing I've tried for one game (ys 8) has ever made it work properly on the controller I had though. i've spent a while trying to get that thing to work and just gave up

yeah dave the diver was pretty exceptional from what I played. it's adjacent to touhou mystia izakaya, one of my favs

alicesoft revived the visual novel genre almost singlehandedly from being a mindless porny cashgrabby mess back in the 90's and they technically have done multiple genres of games (Rance 01/02, 5d, 6, 7/kichikuou, 8, 9, and 10 are all very different genres within the same series, and they have a bunch of other IPs like evenicle or dohna dohna). theres a lot of legendary VN studios out there, but not many gameplay focused with a breadth of genres and IPs

but noone cares about the horny games around here except me :(

i thought kingdom hearts 1 was straight mid, but 2 had some REALLY cool moments and was overall a worthwhile experience (even if a lot of the spectacle moments are just mashed or timed button presses). 3 took way too long to come out on steam so i never touched it

RD is almost objectively a better game but I'm not sure a better experience to play. too many factions imo

i somehow suspect it can handle 257 mods, but I will be on the lookout for more to add. it's just.... everything has been touched at this point. i'm gonna need some very specific mods to install, and i'm not doing silly portrait mods because those are cheating

my main complaint for revelations is actually that not everyone is permanently recruitable! and that's only like 3 characters! yeah the story isn't the best but it doesn't grind on me like engage does for some reason. if anything I disliked BR/CQ more because of how symmetrical and ultimately unsatisfying they felt (on purpose to sell revelations, but still)

I'm a fucked up new age fire emblem enjoyer, even though I started with 7 (ok, melee) and went back for previous games eventually. casual mode was the best change the series has ever had because I would just restart the chapter anyways

no I mean I legitimately like fates, awakening is above average for me

I replayed revelations three times previously, and I recently revived my 3ds to do another run since I've discovered online streetpass is a thing now

I liked Fates more than Awakening (and most fire emblem games, eat me), but Awakening is absolutely an era shift that revived the franchise. Path of Radiance is my absolute favorite, but I feel like it belongs on the list less than others

if you're combining Three Houses with Three Hopes, it extra deserves that spot. Hopes won't get a single vote on its own, but it builds on 3H's strengths in a nice way

good shit that noone's even mentioned engage yet. maybe some of the best gameplay (I'd argue THE best gameplay) but that's it. worldbuilding and plot suck

sacred stones is the one I'm iffiest about, but it feels the most solid of the GBA era. if you did a mount rushmore of non-lord FE characters, seth would absolutely be there

Now, recap episodes? Those suck. They can be okay if the recap is framed in a fun way or if it doesn't take up the whole episode (like the musical number at the end of the last episode of Reboot season 3? That was peak recap), but if that doesn't happen, they're generally just a waste of an episode.

They're functionally just for people who been away from the series for a while. Like, there's about five years in between each season of Re:zero, recaps are perfectly fine there. If they sneak it into the middle of a weekly ongoing series? Iffy, but still can be useful for something like conan that only really has a plot-heavy arc every could dozen or hundred episodes.

Well, that is not entirely true, I probably saw an Evony ad in 2010 which is what got me to start playing it. I just can't remember what it was.

evony ads are legendarily shitty and they've been around FOREVER, a lot of them straight up looked like ads for porn sites. some woman almost fully naked with the text "play now my lord"

I love british comedy, but I've never done an actual streaming service. stuff like would i lie to you, cats does countdown, taskmaster, and two ronnies are great
