It would be good where I live in the Midwest. I make more than that now but even back when I was making just that I was living very comfortably.

We have a number of guys in their late 20s that in the last year or two started working where I work and they make around that. They were all able to buy houses, have decent vehicles, and a few of them have kids they support too.

So really just like every time this topic comes up I say this will heavily depend on geographic location.

A good chunk of my tv watching is stuff prior to 1968. Especially the stuff I grew up on as a kid. I was born in 76 and a ton of the stuff on in the 80s was reruns from the 60s and even 50s. A ton of my favorites westerns both shows and movies are older.

Im on my weekend with Mondays and Tuesdays off and this weekend I already decided Im going to rewatch The Good, the Bad and the Ugly again. Ive seen it many many times but I pretty much rewatch one of my favorite old westerns every weekend and this weekend thatll be the one. So 1966 it is. Last week it was Shane with Alan Ladd (1953)

Most of my talking is only done at work. With 10 million I'll be retiring and not working. I'll spend 99% of my time at home and the only errand I really run is the grocery store. While I do speak at the grocery store at the deli counter and to my local butcher when I get meat I could work around being non verbal with just a written list handed to them. For 10 million it would be a small adjustment. Super easy choice.

I have known a couple people like that. But yeah 95% of the time in my personal experience people have just had to lose weight and keep that under control. It runs in my family and weight loss has been the key for each person, including myself.

I listen to a very wide variety of music beyond rock but it is one of the factors of why I pretty much stopped listening to new music past 2000. I stay willingly stuck in the past. I primarily listen to the 50's through the 90's.

I was born in 76 so I really loved the couple decades before me, and certainly loved the 80's for a wide variety of stuff and into the early 90's when I was in high school. I pretty much "noped" out of music at 2000.

But I have to say even though it might not be on the charts there is still a lot of modern music doing quite well. I have friends who love Greta Van Fleet which is basically a modern rip off Led Zeppelin. They hate that comparison but its undeniably there. They are relatively new I think just being signed to a label 7 or 8 years ago. There are many others as well.

Again not necessarily on the charts but sometimes as I'm flipping though my Satellite Radio I hear them on frequently. I'm sure someone who followed modern music could pull up a lot of examples.

I love their music. Have since I was a kid for like 45 years. I mean hell I remember when Flash Gordon came out and was brand new. Big songs releasing like Under Pressure with David Bowie, Radio Ga Ga, and I Want to Break Free. Who as a kid could ever forget that video for I Want to Break Free? lol. Granted a chunk of their well known stuff is from a time right before I was born or right after my birth but before my memories really kicked in.

But I certainly remember a number of songs coming out and being brand new at the time. Their hits were primarily done even though they still had multiple albums there at towards the end. Still a band I love to this day.

He was shredded but he didn't have near the mass he has now. Reacher was 2022 so I know it is 7 years and he has worked out his whole life but it was quite a difference.

I only use The Ringer as a reference point because that was the last thing I saw him in that I distinctly remember.

TopicWhat would Nirvana and Kurt Cobain have done if he lived
archizzy
06/02/24 5:02:42 PM

I certainly love the band. On one hand I love a ton of stuff from before I was born. I was born in 76 and I like 50's Doo-Wop and the start of rock. I absolutely love the 60's and there is tons of stuff from the 70's I enjoy.

I also very much loved the 80's of my youth but there is something different about your formative teenage years in high school from 14 to 18 that just hits a little different. Especially when it isn't an established band putting out another record. For example Metallica was my favorite band of the 80's. I absolutely loved, I mean LOVED their first 4 albums and I could write a long ass post breaking down my favorite album and why but I won't do that.

The point is when I was in high school from 1990-1994 that is when their "Black album" came out. it was their 5th studio album (not counting EP's like Garage Days" and that is something completely different than a band that just explodes in popularity before your very eyes.

Sure Nirvana had Bleach in 89 but I wasn't aware of them. There is no doubt that most people know them from 1991 when Smells Like Teen Spirit and Nevermind absolutely turned them into arguably the biggest band on the planet. To see that happen before my very eyes was just different than an already established band putting out another album I liked. This was monumental.

Looking back it is pretty crazy looking at the timeline. It was Fall of 1991 when they got super popular and Kurt died April 5th 1994 in the Spring. It felt like such a big part of my life back then but looking back now it was such a brief moment. It was basically a 2.5 year window and it was over. It was extremely impactful on me, but it was so brief.

As for what they would have done? I really don't know and we will never know but I honestly think they were on the brink of major changes. Maybe a breakup? Not because of any personal conflict or the members themselves not getting along. I just think Kurt was extremely uncomfortable with fame and with how popular they got. He was frustrated with their record label. There was a lot of fighting about In Utero and the record label didn't like the album. But Kurt stood by it and they were so huge by then they could stand up to the label.

If they stayed together I think once their record label obligation was done they would have went independent. I think we would have seen a shift in their sound. At their core they were really fans of a lot of punk stuff. Specifically Cobain was really into it and it was a huge influence on him. Dave Grohl was taken to his first show as a teenager by his sister and he was really into punk for awhile.

I think we would have seen more stuff like some of the covers off their Incesticide album which seriously is a shame more people don't listen to that album because it is fantastic. Even some mainstream Nirvana fans don't know it as it isn't listed as a main studio album but as a compilation album.

It only sold like 1.4 million copies in the US which is quite a bit lower than Nevermind or In Utero. It is so good. Not just the covers but some of the actual Nirvana songs. Dive is one of my favorite songs they do. Sliver is definitely a different sound for them but really really good and I love the song Aneurysm on that album.

So ultimately I have no idea truly what we would have seen other than i know if they were still together whatever they put out probably would have been something I liked. Would I have drifted away from them like I have other bands I loved back then? It's certainly possible. It would depend on how long they were together and how many albums they put out. Maybe me only having them for such a short window is why I love them so intently?

I don't know. I just know they are one of my favorite bands and I still regularly listen to all of their music.

I'm sure in no way will this lead to an abuse of power and certain demographics being targeted. Imagine living in a place where you need a reason to be outside and walking/riding a bike.

My only disappointment was over the course of my very first weekend playing it I had already completed the game and found very little challenge in it. Still an iconic game and the music and sounds are forever burned into my head but back then most games artificially lengthened most games by being challenging as almost all NES games were super short.

That one didnt so over the years I played it very little.

Season 1 of GoT was the only one I thought was truly great. I was a book fan years before the show ever came to fruition. Season 1 you had a more focused story with less locations and characters. It had scenes that were literally word for word dialogue from pages straight out of the book.

As soon as you had to expand the story and all the characters its impossible for a tv show to be able to manage a book story like that. Characters start getting merged, changed, or dropped completely. Entire story arcs manipulated or bastardized badly. It becomes a mess quickly.

Everyone wants to complain about season 8 but that show was completely off the rails in like season 4. The reality is if youre a book reader you just have to completely disassociate what you know and take it purely for the mindless entertainment it is as a show.

Ultimately I enjoyed it for what it was. I enjoyed seeing my two favorite characters in Tyrion and The Hound brought to life before me. It definitely entertained me at times. Some characters were done quite poorly I thought but again ultimately I enjoyed it.

High Five on The Wire though. Loved that show though admittedly have never rewatched it. Only watched when it was on.

I had a great relationship with my dad but I absolutely yearned to be on my own when I was younger even though my dad was at work all the time and slept when he wasn't so I had the whole house to myself pretty much my entire time growing up. Still I wanted that independence and made sure to make it happen as soon as possible.

Enjoy it.

A lease? On your "own" home?

Pretty clearly he is renting when he says lease. It is still his own place.

Panthers going back to the finals. I really hope Edmonton makes it because I want to watch that matchup and I'll be content with either team winning. I'll probably root for the Oilers for the hell of it because I like watching them.

Fuck Dallas.

I just want to say the greatest crossover is crossover thrash (bands that started as hardcore punk and crossed over to thrash metal) and the king of crossover thrash is the band Suicidal Tendencies. They have so many good albums.

Also have to mention another band that is great crossover thrash band is D.R.I. (Dirty Rotten Imbeciles) Those two are the best examples of crossover thrash.

Nothing weird here. Just two bands I really like to talk about.

I haven't been to a hotel in like 25 years and it never happened back then but I remember reading about this recently and it seems to be quite common to charge for parking. Which is weird as fuck to me but not surprising.

I remember being so excited when I heard Sony Bend was working on a project and I totally was hoping for a revival of Syphon Filter.

I loved the idea of the Pacific Northwest setting but then when I was shown what the game was going to be I just lost all interest. I straight out detest "zombie" games. You can call them whatever creatures you want. It was a zombie game. I give zero fucks about them.

Multiple places but it was back in the 90's when I was in the Navy. Was in Palma de Mallorca (beautiful) a number of places on the mainland before heading through the Straight of Gibraltar to Lisbon Portugal and going to the Azores before heading back home port.

It was Summer and I remember it being very humid and feeling much warmer than all the places I had just come from in the Mediterranean.

Have fun.

Get pizza and eat another whole pie for dessert, then get ice cream. All the topics about them show you clearly want them. Then tomorrow go get the fajitas at the Mexican place you were talking about. You have been obsessing about Mexican food a lot too. Give in.

Well in the topic title you said Peach/Apple Cobbler but in the actual poll you only listed peach. While I love peaches as a standalone fruit I dislike them as a pie/cobbler/crisp or any heathens that try to flavor drinks with it like peach tea.

Apple i would totally be down for but a peach dessert? No. I would have to default to the banana pudding. Preferably with vanilla wafers.
