Registration starts in a few days. I haven't done it since 2021 so the new randomizers interest me. Like the idea of later crystal weights so I don't end up with something like Red Mage,Thief or Berserker again. Might record/stream it for the fun.

This might come across as offensive to you, but do you have autism? Playable cars are the same thing as playable characters. In a game lock Rocket League the car is the player.

I am only asking because this is something that autistic people struggle with understanding. Not everything is literal. A game does not need to have playable sentient beings to have playable characters.

They don't give away money, they give away free slot plays to attract people already addicted to spend money to keep them addicted. Casino payouts are set up so that the casino always gets around 50% return +/- a few percentage points. You are always a loser.

Yea but some of those can still be interesting, if a new mod comes out. I like all of the things that get added to bring new life into old platforms but I'm not at all interested in things like MiSTER that frequently get pushed to me. The whole concept of new hardware for retro computing doesn't make much sense to me when those things can mainly be solved through software on modern systems.

I don't like however how (as you said) it's all promotional items given to the content creator by these companies to drive sales. Really makes you wonder how many of these items are being sold and how relevant it actually is. Then again I see how absurdly popular Pokemon TCG is and anything can be a hobby. I'd be way more into it (specifically overclocking retro hardware) if I had the space and electricity wasn't like $0.40/kWh. One of those things I've considered getting into in my 40s/50s.

Random but I keep on meaning to get back into Pokemon TCG. We have locals in my city (they just started up again) but I think it would feel super weird for a 35 year old to play Pokemon on a Friday night.

Indeed. It is not. I just updated one of my machines to Debian Trixie today and it killed all of the special routing I use for my VM setup, specifically hostname resolution. Good thing it was pretty easy to fix - the upgrade mucked with my bind9 config without directly telling me.

SteamOS is the gaming distro, but it's not ready for desktops, and also you're probably going to run into issues with any programs that aren't flatpacks (most of them). I do have high hopes if they ever decide to take desktop environments seriously, but right now they just leave it up to KDE, who are doing an amazing job.

It is if you're part of the AMD circlejerk and ONLY do gaming, which is what your average redditor is trying to do which makes any meaningful discussion pointless. I don't even game on Linux anymore, I just use a multi-GPU setup and game in a Windows VM so I find the entire discussion extremely trite.

I guess what has been bothering me the most lately is the fact that I'm still single. I want to go places and do fun things with a pretty girl that I like. I'm committing to going on a date before the end of the next month.

I see every relationship around me constantly imploding, but part of me really wishes I could be part of the good sides to all of that. I just don't see a meaningful path towards that at the moment.

Another thing that's been bothering me: long video essays about mundane things. People are forcing them out and padding their videos on purpose to engage the algorithm and it's starting to feel like serious slop. I used to love video essays about dumb and interesting things that people actually cared about, and now if I got into that my entire day would disappear watching stupid bullcrap.

Some of it is getting really bad. I enjoy listening to Youtube stuff in the background, but recently the quality has dropped massively (or I've just detected the BS). Watched a video the other day about this "Food challenge" trend (e.g. can I eat McDonalds every day for a week - of course you can) and how BS it all was. Another one was "I survive a week without a smartphone" like that's any meaningful challenge when you can just bring a laptop and hotspot wherever you go, but that's largely me being me and never relying on my phone.

I am playing Pathfinder: Kingmaker right now and I'm level 5 and basically everything I'm fighting is destroying me ant level 8.

• Extremely low effort attempts to start a conversation that show the OP have very poor to no written communication skills.

• Other surface level shit that only exists to start arguments and flame wars.
• People bitching and moaning about how unfair live service multiplayer games that exist just to exploit you.
• People trying to pirate media, up to and including data hoarding and setting up extravagant virtualization solutions just to steal and hoard.
• People who lack any kind of backbone who just want to coast through life, thinking that if they just slack off everything will work out.
• Forced politeness and the non-desire to call people out for posting low level "slop".
• Posting for a reaction "give me attention", and not for a discussion.

So, is bothering you lately? I expect at least one person to reply with me and how negative I am!

I lost similar amounts of weight when I went from 220 to 130 over 5 years. Basically giving up breakfast for 8 months made me lose around 50lbs.

No, that defeats the purpose. I am listening to videos as background noise. Someone silently playing a game or talking to chat is not interesting to me. I am not 10. I understand parasocial relationships are vapid.

I will watch Youtubers who do docu-lets plays or challenge runs. Anything longer than 1-2 hours is way too much for me for one sitting, and those are basically reserved for analysis videos and not people playing video games.

I barely play video games now.
Since December, I have finished basically just Hades + AC7. I have some time (over 10 hours) in WoA, and Tales of Arise but not any meaningful amount. Other games are all less than 10 hours.
I really do suggest finding other hobbies, video games are mucho boring.

Probably time for you lot to get some new hobbies.

Thought experiment time. Lets try and list the qualities that made Pokemon novel and see if it is still novel (or has those qualities) anymore.

Pokemon was most memorable for:

• Being an RPG with a wide array of playable characters.
• Providing a semi-open world for the player to explore.
• Being one of the first games on a handheld platform to provide a player versus player gaming experience.
• Being one of the first games on a handheld platform to allow for trading playable characters between players.

Do these points hold up to this day? In most ways yes, however you'll notice that #2 specifically has been completely out done by entire genres of games. Modern Pokemon bare minimum for an explorable world.
