It's funny, because I came back to Pokemon during Scarlet/Violet and jumped back to Sword/Shield. I have massive criticisms for Generation 8/9, but I find them more enjoyable than the 3DS generations. That's where I dropped off because they were so bogged down in childish tutorial crap.

I'm in a rather contrarian situation. I quit during Gen 8 (DLC was the bridge I was not willing to cross) and I would actually play the TCG if there was a scene in my area (there's a Lorcana scene, which I am trying to get into) except Pokemon packs are absurdly expensive, near $1 per card right now which inhibits casual players (casual being those who don't tcgplayer singles / decks) from entering the market.

LGS plays it on Sundays so I don't need to worry about games running over during the week.

Pokemon exists to exist now. It's more about the brand and not about the quality. Claiming Pokemon in any meaningful capacity is underrated is a joke, you just have to look at the TCG to see that's basically an unregulated casino.

Have you ever done web development work? How hard is it to get into the field? How stressful is the work?

I am not a web developer but I've done web development before (totally different if you are web development specialist). My experience is in writing orchestration software and drivers for windows and linux.

I can't explain how to get into a field that required a college education in a totally different market than it was 15 years ago. My work is absurdly stressful but that's because I make it stressful.

Extremely unlikely. Also if it's soft skills based (so basically every job that's not entry level) you're safe. There is a recent trend of language models being poisoned by foreign adversaries.

They offer FAB, Commander, Vanguard, and Lorcana, but their not an official Vanguard provider, and I have a long history of avoiding Commander. Despite the fact that I dislike Disney, I've been trying to get myself out of the house to play Lorcana. I've physically been to the store so I know they're the real deal but spending money still concerns me.

I hope that enough time has passed that she feels comfortable going back to Senzawa. It didn't make much sense for her to ever be a Vtuber anyways when she had a better platform already established and made fantastic skit content while doing twitch on the side.

It was very clear that either she was leeching off of the brand or just didn't like streaming based on the lack of content beyond her first hear or so at Hololive. I don't follow vtubers at all and I always got very bad vibes from that company and its fanbase full of actual children.

Anyone know a good software development form like 4chan's /g/ that's not hacker news or some reddit? Discord is probably fine as long as it's not inundated by children who have no idea what they're talking about and use vim and linux because they're trendy or whatever vomit I read on reddit every day. Literally had an argument with someone the other day because they thought that Proxmox was a Type 1 Hypervisor and probably couldn't tell you the difference between Proxmox, Libvirt, Qemu, and KVM.

I assume this is one of those lazy "I want to be Red Team / Blue Team / 1337 Hax0r / work in a SoC types and not an actual "I want to develop software that's used in the Cybersecurity industry".

I've worked on an EDR in some form or another for the past 7 years. I started in my late 20s. I did not specifically choose this path. Do not go into an industry expecting to work in a specialization.

Also the first time stumbling into this board in months and I see this thread? I'm lucky I am not bursting into a rant about how lazy people are these days (then again people are always lazy).

I am way too busy to post here anymore, I've even forgotten PotD and GameFAQs existed until I saw a pojr video on Youtube.

^ This is also why you will see gaming communities with older audiences gravitate towards Youtube for content creation (and streaming) over Twitch. Youtube generally targets older audiences than Twitch and newer platforms (e.g. TikTok) do. I will not watch any streamer that uses Youtube as a secondary content platform because Twitch does not respect me.

Older generations become role models (influencers). Seek out new impressionable youths to take money from.
Younger generations are impressionable as they lack experience or critical thinking skills (undeveloped brain, no life experience) so they look up to role models (influencers) for inspiration.

This cycle has always existed but is more pronounced in the digital world. I looked up to popular Web Admins like W13 (of Runescape fame) back in the day. GameFAQs had CJayC, Devin and Allen. 4chan had moot, ect. There were lots of smaller forums where I looked up to their leadership but I won't name any specific people as they're all long gone. Even GameFAQs boards had certain prolific members that were looked up to. Think of all of the big JRPG guide writers like Shotgunova.

The role models seek mediums to interact with youths. This can either be for altruistic reasons (community building) or malicious reasons (gifting. for profit influencer media). Each generation so far has had a new medium. Gen X had BBS, Gen Y had Forums. Gen Z had Discord. Gen A has TikTok.

One of my favorite memories occurred on the Starcraft 2 board. Some guy posted a ton of nothing topics over the course of weeks, and then bumped EVERY SINGLE one to flood the front page. The long con.

For what it's worth, I might've been the first one to exploit it to give SBAllen his first avatar of a Legend of the Galactic Heroes character, but tons of other people found it a few days later. I wanted to show some friends that I figured it out and might as well go after the most high profile proof I could.

Whoever was the one replacing porn with people's avatars was a riot. That was when I was still a software development noob (I was still in college) and didn't know much about anything.

No. AFAIK Devin was always too conservative with allowing avatars in posts. That's a user script that I made myself, but there's a wonderful one that another user wrote many years ago that should still be usable now:

In the early 2010s I created an avatars user script which turned into a browser extension which results in me getting pissed off after two users were arguing with me over PM and I had enough and lashed out at one of them unfairly updating the extension's backend to inject hate speech into the extensions settings. As a result, I was banned for 6 months, I willingly shut the browser extension was shut down and demand lead to the feature being added to the site. At the end of its life over 2000 people had avatars and even more were using certain other features of the extension such as rotating signatures and quick account switching.

Also at the end both Devin and Allen used it (or people exploited the REST API and injected avatars into their avatars I don't know).
Also at one point I captured everyone's IP addresses and did not do anything with them.
Very fun stuff. I'm a software architect at a cybersecurity company now creating enterprise endpoint protection software.

Also I consider myself woke now.
Friends from GameFAQs changed me into the person I am today.
