This, what was that person thinking? You're lucky to even get same day. Usually for my dad's meds it's 2-3 days after calling them in.
Youd be floored how often people expect and demand their medications mere minutes after seeing their doctor.

Today I learned its the patients responsibility

I assumed pharmacists would be able to get to doctors more quickly than patients, or would be able to send electronic requests
Nope, most of the time we use the same phone numbers that the patient would use. We generally dont have any secrets or shortcuts. Or time.

the pharmacy calls the doctor thats how its always done
No its not. As others have said, thats a courtesy if the pharmacy wants to go above and beyond.

A patient visits their doctor for their annual checkup. The doctor determines they need to take a medication to help treat a disease theyve discovered during the examination. The patient asks for the medication to be sent to Pharmacy X. The doctor agrees and sends the patient on their way.

Patient arrives at the pharmacy 10 minutes later looking to pickup their new medication. The pharmacy staff look and do not see that the doctor ever sent any prescriptions, so they tell the patient that they have not received anything and that they should reach out to their doctor to check. The patient wants the pharmacy to call their doctor for the prescription. Who would you say should be the responsible party to resolve this issue?

I didn't even think that was an option.
Its a lot more common than you think, and when customers get told they need to call back with an actual list of names or numbers, they always get mad.

Doesnt matter if its for you, your mom, your uncle, your great grandpa, or anyone else. Dont ask the pharmacy to refill everything. You need to have a list of medication names or prescription numbers because everything never means everything. And that just wastes everyones time.

My friends all watched the first episode and I could not bring myself to pay attention and I realized I just do not care for Bethesda Fallout, personally.
