That's what I mean when I say harming HP. I don't think she's actually going to be writing like openly transphobic official HP material. But she frankly doesn't need to. She just needs to keep being an absolute piece of shit while owning the franchise.

Honestly, I do think that WB does realize that Rowling has become a net-negative for the franchise. Like obviously it's still extremely popular, but Rowling and her influence actually harms it. WB would like to remove her influence before the harm becomes more substantial.

Also, full rights means WB also isn't sharing the revenue with anyone anymore. Which, given that the franchise is still very popular, is a nice benefit as well.

The whole Harry Potter fiasco has taught me that corporations are either slightly less amoral than I thought or way more incompetent.

In several weeks we'll get the Nielsen streaming numbers. It's not a perfect system as it's still in relative infancy but it is at least third party and a lot more trustworthy than a PR statement from Disney.

Very frequently it's because they want more than like two slices of [topping] pizza but don't want to feel like they are hogging it all so the get like two pepperoni slices and then a cheese. Cheese is also ordered in less quantity than something like pepperoni. So when a bunch of people pad their slice count with cheese slices, you run out quick.

It's extremely frustrating if you are a vegetarian and the cheese pizza is the only one you can eat of what's ordered. But it's gone by the time you get there.

The Jungle Book remake definitely benefited from the original being a lesser animated movie overall.

The problem with these remakes is that Disney animated movies are super tightly built. Animation is expensive and time-consuming so the movies are basically completely storyboarded and scripted before a single frame of the animation is worked on. But that means the movies have no fat. All the essential story elements are baked into about an hour-and-a-half package.

All these remakes run at least an extra half-hour compares to the originals. But since the originals were already narratively complete stories, that extra half-hour is the Garlic Junior saga. Nothing that happens during it impacts the plot because the plot was already complete before.

The original Jungle Book just isn't quite as tightly plotted as either the classic Disney movies beforehand or the Disney Renaissance movies later. As a whole it's just a less narrative forward story. But that actually gave the remake room to work with.

It makes sense in the context of how the selection process has historically worked. It's very much is an achievement award for its veteran players.

Absolutely bone-headed move from a growth and PR perspective. Clark is absolutely a lightning in a bottle moment for women's basketball. She is pulling viewers in a way the sport has never seen but it really feels like the WNBA and women's basketball is just kinda fumbling the momentum she is generating. Like, she needs to be the undisputed face of the sport, right now. That might seem unfair to more veteran players, but they just need to deal. The tide will raise their boats too.

Season 1 was supposed to come out way sooner but got delayed by COVID. This lead to season 2 having some developmental overlap with season 1. So it felt like it took less time to make.

Season 3 didn't have the benefit. It really didn't start production until season 2 had already started airing.

Animated shows in general just have long production times. It's why it isn't uncommon for networks to renew them two seasons at a time so they can have a more consistent production schedule.

Kansas' SC are pretty strict constitutionalist. Which is why they also ruled that banning abortion was unconstitutional awhile back which is what caused right wing-nuts to try to pass a constitutional amendment that got voted down.

In this case because the KS constitution didn't explicitly state voting as a constitutional right, they say it isn't.

Hammer has been dead for like 24 years. Even being the villain of Iron Man 2 didn't bring him back.

Screamin' Eagle was my favorite roller coaster as a kid because it was big enough to feel adult but didn't actually have loops that scared me and it drove my dad crazy because he was not a fan of how rough it was. That thing is an ancient wooden roller coaster and it beats the shit out of you. The Timberwolf at Worlds of Fun is similar. Just a real violent experience.

Iron Man is tough because the villain drop off after Mandrin is rough. But it's probably two of Madame Masque, Iron Monger, Ghost or Crimson Dynamo.

Yeah the issue with the Doomsdays and the Banes of the world is they do one big thing once and then they don't know what to do with them ever again. Because anything you do after killing/maiming a super hero is gonna feel very underwhelming. This is especially true for functionally mindless characters like Doomsday, but even Bane spent years just being an occasional physical challenge for Batman, but generally not a threat. It wasn't until Secret Six where he got a pretty significant reinvention and moved him away from Batman before he started to become a compelling character again.

The adaptation test is a good one. Basically if your character when adapted is basically always doing the same story, you are probably not actually that significant of a villain. You get all sorts of Luthor/Joker/Riddler/Two-Face/Brainiac stories. But if Bane shows up you know he's gonna be hoisting Batman up to slam on his knee.
