yeah, the claw games from what i know are designed to screw you over and have the claw drop the items even if you manage to snag them

but people pay anyway for the experience of doing it, so unless they get addicted and try many times, its kinda harmless and still gives them a fun memory. you could argue its the same with this card machine if a kid just buys one card. i don't know if kids are rolling over and over again until they get a rare. like imagine a kid goes to the diner with their family once a month and gets a card each time. now its just a fun memory and they might treasure those cards!

yeah but a) you're still paying for the convenience because you want the water right then and there, whereas for the trading card, i don't think it matters that you get it right now, and b) with the water, you know what you're getting - a bottle of water, whereas with the trading card, you might be misled into thinking you're getting the standard 10% of getting a rare or whatever but when its really 0%. that's if the kids are even thinking that way though, which i agree we don't know if they are. if the machine said "contains commons only" then everything about the 'scam' goes away, right?

The fact also remains that its just $1. McDonalds charges like $10 for like a quarter's worth of food.

You ever buy a $1 soda from a fountain? Yeah that also has pennies worth of product in it.

It's a bad deal but calling it a scam is a stretch.

but that's what fast food costs anywhere. that's what the soda will cost from any fountain. (and before you say "buy it at the supermarket" that's obviously different, you're paying for the right to drink it at this restaurant and for the convenience of it, and it costs the same at any fast food place with a soda fountain)

this isn't what a random common card will cost in most places where you could go to get a common card.

On one hand, I totally support this statement. I didn't read anything about the season online other than here and the edgic board, but I checked the subreddit finally last week and god, every thread was just hate on Liz, Venus, Maria, hell even for Jess because how dare she get on the show when her heart wasn't in it and etc etc, and it really is sort of pathetic.

On the other hand, I sort of love that of all the things in 46 seasons to make them issue this statement, the sheer unprecentedness of Maria's jury vote and the universal hatred it inspired is the thing that did it. (Yes I am viewing that as the main catalyst here) I value loyalty really highly and the idea of betraying a friend like that (someone who you called family even, and we have no reason to think she was being deceptive when she said those things) is more offputting to me than almost anything else in 46 seasons too so I'm kinda glad to know that lots of people feel the same way, even if, y'know, they shouldn't be contacting her work and stuff.

the wire on a desktop mouse doesn't ever get in the way at all so i don't see why i'd use wireless. with a game controller the wire is sometimes inconvenient but not with a mouse. everything wireless i've ever used (mostly controller and a headset once) would always randomly disconnect, even if it was rare. i still use wireless controller but i plug it in when playing any serious game (i.e. ffxiv raiding) and i'd do the same with a mouse.

It sounds like Q genuinely does care about helping those who need money. If his words are to believed, that is part of what motivated his quit attempt at the Tevin boot, and of course his final tribal question. But since he's (literally) putting his money where his mouth is, it may very well be true.

But if that's the case, it makes me less interested in seeing him return for 50 - if he genuinely believes he doesn't deserve the money, then he's going to continue to play in a way where he's not truly trying to win.

yeah, charlie's game was nearly flawless, but like, did he register kenzie as a threat? we didn't get to see any confessionals where he talked about her at all - why he was never targeting her, if he thought he could beat her, etc. that's also kind of part of why it was a weak finale, neither kenzie or charlie talked about each other so their battle was almost, like, not personal for either of them? their relationship with ben was more focused on, rather than any rivalry they may have.

Maria basically said her game wasn't worthy of winning with her vote, since she was so attached to Charlie until the final 6. And with how hurt Charlie looked there, I wouldn't be surprised if he never talked to her again.

yeah i mean, how do you come back from that? gonna be really awkward at the family gathering viewing parties when everyone's asking maria "hey, if charlie's our new uncle, why don't we ever see him?!"

obviously charlie was gracious in the aftermath because you have to be when you're on camera being demanded to show grace right after losing your dream (the immediate reunion is absolutely horrific for losing finalists) but surely he must be pissed (nevermind just hurt and betrayed)

i mean, kendra insisted multiple times last season that she wanted a woman to win, and then she voted austin, didn't she?

if they like you enough, they can go against their own "criteria", and i don't think we can ever fully take them at their word about what the reason was because a lot of it might just be that subconsciously, they like that person more. maybe venus would've broken her critera if there was a guy she really really respected, but charlie wasn't it. of course, that still means the scale was tipped towards kenzie for her, but it doesn't necessarily mean it was impossible. but hey, survivor has never been fair.

i think they actually were different numbers of holes - liz collects kenzie's green plank (matching the green puzzle) which seems completely unacceptable in any situation of fairness

oh gosh. i didn't even notice. okay. i see. yeah that almost makes it even more unfair! since i didn't recall exactly the specifics of 23, but i guess sophie was told that albert wasn't allowed to. so why is this different?

also i do agree this was a pretty boring finale. charlie went full gamebot and just said "i want options" a dozen times whenever they cut to him, the drama with ben's "choice" which seemed like it'd be a big deal, really wasn't because kenzie and charlie both wanted kenzie to do the fire anyway, and there just wasn't any really drama, though maria lying to charlie about the vote was amusing and liz was hilarious.

Even lamer that they gave it to Kenzie for winning fire.

yeah when charlie said "i don't feel i need fire-making on my resume" i immediately thought back to cassidy and i knew where this was going

46 (and 45) have been good survivor again finally but the thing where juries continuously act like the fire-making is some huge necessary thing to do is really grating. i mean i don't even believe them, i think they just disliked cassidy and used anything to justify it, and i think it's kinda the same here, but it's really annoying to see them vocalize it as if the proper winning move is to purposefully go to fire. fire is a punishment for a) not winning the challenge and b) not playing the sort of game where the winner of it wants to take you to the end! it's not a "resume-builder" but i guess now it is!

tbh I don't think that should've been allowed until Liz completed her puzzle. Because that would mean everyone could gang up against the one person on the outs and take away their way out.

yeah idk how I feel about this.

i don't wanna be a hypocrite 'cause like, sophie tried it too and i thought she was a badass, so if i have to choose, i'd rather with sophie lmao, but yeah i dunno it does seem really unfair. being able to win a challenge should be a thing you can do even if you're on the outs.

actually i thought each person's plank would have a different number of holes to prevent this and that that's why liz's number wasn't going to work, but i guess that wasn't it.

Edgic consensus seems to be Kenzie or Charlie, of course

But what I think seals the deal is specifically them having Maria say "only one of us can win". I think that cements the winner of the Maria/Charlie dynamic as the winner of the season. Coronation line for Charlie.

Well, it's really more like the consensus is Kenzie, with Charlie as the default 2nd choice, but with much higher confidence in Kenzie.

I'm not fully sold and sort of lean Charlie myself, but I can see a storyline where her social connections earn it for her, combined with people resenting Charlie for supporting evil queen Maria and much-hated Q for so long.

And tbh, Survivor rarely edits female winners with this much prominence. I wouldn't consider that a dealbreaker, but it is a pretty strong pattern, sadly. If Kenzie wins, it'll actually be a really momentous moment for the series, especially when people speculated the first female winner in 5 years or w/e would surely have a big edit and we got Erika.

i see... thanks. guess i'll just have to run with it for now. it's sort of annoying though because if the characters aren't even being clear on if they think the killer is among them or hidden somewhere, none of their actions make any sense to me. but maybe that's what you get in knockoff-danganronpa!

fwiw i don't think the game is bad, in fact i think its a bit less silly than danganronpa 1 and i respect the fact that our mysterious white-haired character actually tells us what her deal is right away instead of saying "sorry my backstory is a mystery" for 5 chapters. but saying "the killer was hiding in the manor and therefore had to dispose of evidence quickly" 3 dialogue boxes after you say "the killer set the crime up days ago and then left" is kinda a dealbreaker so hopefully a good explanation comes or i won't be able to take the game seriously.

actually wait, i'm not even done - looking at this text log again -

it says the duke (aka the killer) came to the island *a few days ago*, murdered everyone in the research lab, and *then* set up the chandelier, and then *left* the manor

so... if they left the manor, then that means they sent the fake call from somewhere else, and they *weren't* in the manor after all????? so if they weren't in the manor, how did they get stuck waiting in the manor (because they were afraid to go past an unconscious wato) and have to burn the gloves in the fireplace???

am i really this dumb or does this just make no sense

I didn't wanna type it all out right away in case just no one had played it.

So, this is the summary of the killer's plan, from the in-game text log:

https://imgur.com/a/x3Y1yDX

So, from what they said, the killer was inside the manor setting up the chandelier and the wire and everything. And apparently, after setting it up, they... stayed there? And placed the fake phonecall via some method, from inside the manor.

I think Ideal said the killer's goal was to slip away somehow and take the gloves (evidence, because the gloves got cut by the wire or something) with them, at which point they could dispose of them literally anywhere and never be caught because they leave the island...? OR They at least wanted the detectives to *assume* that they could be anywhere in the world, even if they do decide to stick around and blend in...

But because Wato came early and opened the door and avoided the chandelier, Ideal said that this changed the killer's plan, because now they can't slip out of the mansion, because Wato is unconscious by the door and may wake up and notice them. They wanted to "facilitate their escape amidst the chaos", but now couldn't.

I have 2 issues with this:

a) If the plan was for someone else to open the door... Doesn't that mean 12 people would all do it at once? Or, up to 12. They sent a message to Ideal, who was at the research lab with a dozen detectives, and they didn't expect her to come alone. Ideal sent 6 people, but for all the killer knows, could've just had all 12 go. So let's say someone opens the door and enters first and gets killed by the chandelier, there's now 11 other people there. Even if you want to "escape in the chaos", are you really so certain you can get by potentially 11 people??? When they were otherwise scared to even go past one unconscious person?

b) They made a big deal about how the only way to leave is by taking the path. (I guess the idea of going through the forest is somehow an impossibility for these people...?) so even *if* they sneak out that way, for all they know, the other 6 who stayed behind at the lab could be on their way later and also find them.

Basically I just don't get how they planned to sneak out of the manor, assuming they do it after the call is placed and/or after the body is found.

But more importantly:

If Ideal was at the research lab with... what is it, 11 other detectives? (Cast is size 14, minus Ideal, minus Wato, minus old dead guy) And she's now deduced that the killer is someone who was in the manor in advance and set it all up... and then she says "But the killer is in the manor, among us right now"... then... Doesn't that... rule out all 11 of them? If they all went to the manor together after receiving the call, then it can't be any of them. The killer would immediately be blatantly obvious even if they did the cliche "join the crowd and pretend you were with them all along trick" because 12 people had to all come from the research lab, and they traveled together.

So is Ideal saying "the killer is in the manor still" and is among us? Or is just hidden somewhere? The follow-up after chapter 1 makes this unclear, because if you think they're hidden in the manor, you just keep the front door locked (I believe it was said there's no other exit anywhere because the building is sealed) and keep it under watch, but then when there's a light at the helipad they say "oh, maybe it's the culprit", but you just said they were in the manor so how do they now think the culprit got out? Especially if they think it's one of the 12.

But it shouldn't be possible for it to be one of the 12, because they concluded the killer was in the manor before the call was placed, and all 12 of them came together (6 at a time, but still) from the lab, so that should make everyone innocent, but they also haven't declared that.

So... yeah...

(aka the danganronpa/zero escape knockoff game)

I am extremely confused by their explanation of the murder plot at the end of chapter 1 and I cannot tell if it's just me being stupid or if the plot they just explained makes absolutely no sense. (Or if it's somehow meant to make no sense due to further developments, but I don't think it's this, because it was completely incoherent to me even as a temporary explanation that the characters may believe for now)

So I was wondering if anyone who has played it could help me make sense of what I just read, from the PoV of the info that I'm supposed to have at this point. I can't really google for help for risk of spoilers and don't really know where else to ask. I could just move on but understanding this seems pretty important for the plot and it just makes zero sense to me at the moment.
