On the one hand, there's no hard evidence that Trump is literally about to die rather than just being kind of old. On the other hand, this year he's been making a lot more references to his own mortality (something he basically never did before). It's weird.

I hadn't been paying attention, but could be a byproduct of him nearly getting assassinated a year ago, and him realizing he's old as shit and more frail than he used to be. I think even a narcissist idiot like him understands that.

Yeah, the fundamental problem is people (as a group) are dumb and have a host of biases and fallacies they fall into that distort how and what they think... but social media algorithms intentionally aim at those and pour gas on that fire because it "increases engagement" and earns shareholders more money. This is a problem that was kind of destined to happen. Like the rest of the Internet, it was nice and chill in the beginning until the greedy powers got a grip.

The only solution to these types of problems, of course, is for the system to collapse on itself and a rebuild occurs that implements greater checks by powers that are more self-aware and conscientious. Cults and hiveminds are doomed for failure because they're not rooted in any type of truth, it's all distorted and not functional for longterm survival.

Bitching and whining about social media isn't going to change anything. It's such a surface level complaint.

The problem is that the majority of Americans lack any type of foundation of epistemology, which leads to authoritarians rising to power and misinformation to wildly spread. A tale as old as democracy itself and far precedes the existence of social media.

Drawinism also has to do with culture and society. I fully expect a non-trivial amount of dead unvaccinated kids over the next decade. It was trending towards this even before Trump and this will make it all worse. I have no idea if that will swing things back to "oh wait vaccines are actually not bad" or if these people will just dig their heels in more though. I suspect the latter.
