It is no more possible to will your brain into shape than it is to beat a broken bone back to health. I've been through all that, still have it lingering, and one of the harder things to stop is beating yourself up, even though it's so easy to see how it is so obviously not their fault when you see it in other people.

| Evening_Dragon 05/31/24 2:13:16 PM #6 | Having been around for long enough, I can say the drifting of communities is a natural process. Adult lives get taken up by responsibility. I still say hi to my oldest private community like once a year, same as half of them do.
It sucks when the community gets flooded from sudden subject popularity and you get a thousand HOW 2 MINE 4 FISH??? posts every summer forevermore, though. On a tangent: There was this massive upswell of indie creators bursting out of any little wall in the early to mid aughts, for me locally it was in NYC, but the internet made strong connections with those in Montreal and Canada too. Tons of DYI and community stuff. Lots of bands and webcomics that hit long term popularity started then. Just gonna go ahead and suggest that, as someone who put thousands of hours apiece into the following video games, the things that made Oblivion and Fallout 3 'deep' compared to Skyrim and Fallout 4 are, with very few exceptions, not really that deep at all. I used Skyrim as an example but I don't actually agree that the streamlining is dumbing down, actually. CRON posted... Doom. A lot of the newer/younger fans are literally unable to play the classic games because they lack the computer literacy needed to get source ports working, and one of the most popular fan communities that's been around for years (and known for really insightful, interesting discussions) has slowly been becoming just children rambling and asking really basic questions that have nothing to do with anything. That's a thing that'd probably be dead otherwise, though. As long as you get the point of it as an example of a wider appeal causing worse sequels. Though it matters less with single player games than it does with multiplayer. King Kai's original voice actor in Japanese died and they essentially dropped him in Super. They only do recasts in very, very specific situations. Usually the character dies with them or they stop existing in Japan.
