Yeah, something like this normally wouldn't bother me either, however they gave so little in this that it actually did.

I watched The Marvels without having watched any Disney+ show leading up to it, for example, and while I was certainly lost on some things, it wasn't debilitating. Not knowing who the factions are, why some people encountered are wearing uniforms and others aren't, while knowing there's some 3 faction civil war going on, just begs more questions than the movie showed it was capable of answering.

Like, were those people they shadowed at the school (I think) that had a fallen person and killed the U.S. soldiers part of the same force that took over Washington? Both were wearing military uniforms, however neither seemed to have any association with each other, and from what I remember the faction that took over D.C. was wearing similar if not the same uniforms to that of the people they were killing aside from the Secret Service.

Not saying I didn't enjoy the movie or anything, I just feel like that as someone who doesn't need their hand to be held through a movie they actually made me feel like looking up and wondering why nobody was holding my hand, which is odd for a movie experience on my part.

It's a bug when it's this bad and takes you out of the zone with questions as a result. Believe me, I'm very much a person who "doesn't need every little detail explained to them" (this past week I literally watched both the new Mad Max & Planet of the Apes having never seen anything from the franchise before, (either original or newer stuff), this was just an example of taking that to a negative extreme, where they literally explain nothing beyond "POTUS won't leave office" and "AntiFa massacre" (in which they don't even explain if they were the massacred or the massacring).

Im not sure why you would said that given the context of the film is set 10 years in the future from the current political climate and Texas has been steadily trending blue for many years already. Demographics are changing and projected to keep changing in the future towards purple/blue. Who is to say it wont flip in the coming elections, or that the same people in office today havent been voted out in 10 years time?

Because I live within TX and have voted blue since 2012.

While true nobody should claim to 100% know the future, a mistake I probably made myself here, currently as is, the idea that a fascist takeover, or maybe even the promise of such, is what turns TX into an alliance with CA is one of the least believable things I've heard of.

The entire climax of the film is a political statement, playing out as revenge fantasy against Trump/MAGA. They murdered him as he cowered on the floor, a blubbering mess of tears begging them to spare his life. Just because the film is light on exposition does not mean it is apolitical.

And once again, TX as a state would never do that. 100% they'd side with him, even if there was anti-TX pockets of violent from non-fascist supporters within the state. Unless the state's government itself was overthrown, TX is siding with the fascist and CA is not.

It's the most unbelievable part of the movie, tbh.

This wasn't a MAGA universe though.

It makes sense that two of the largest states would unite against a monarchy. They also didn't just consist of 2 states, iirc it was basically all the west coast states then southern blue states through to Texas, then Oklahoma and north and west to Idaho that stayed with the President, then there was the Florida contingent that was doing its own thing.

Basically there were 3 fractured sections of the US. Texas and California were the heads of the resistance along with Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico among others. Not sure what the Florida faction was even doing honestly.

I'm willing to accept all this, however it still ultimately falls into "nobody has explained a fucking thing and I have no idea what's going on" territory. Like, I've seen people that claim very stupidly about stuff that was obviously explained, just "weird" or "off-putting" to them. However this movie literally did nothing to explain the factions, it didn't even differentiate between the uniforms of the people they were following who were killing government forces, the people held down by the sniper, and the ones who ultimately had some sort of military base and organized military force. All 3 of them were wearing units, however they were very spread apart and never said if they were connected or if any jag off could just grab a uniform and claim they were some freedom fighter.

That's a pretty good point, yeah. One of the weakest things about the film is they literally make 0 effort to explain the factions and in order for CA and TX to be the ONLY ONES in an alliance, it seems like it would need to be something significant. All we know is that the current POTUS is vaguely fascist because he wanted a 3rd term and refused to step down, yet TX Republicans show they would 1000% give that to Trump.

I don't think emotional guilt is a sufficient sentence for taking 3 lives. She doesn't need to lose her life over it with life in prison, however it doesn't seem like "she's in her own prison now" is sufficient. Like, one of the progressive pundits I listen to talks about how he doesn't care if Trump ever goes to prison because he'll be in a legal prison in terms of both time and finances for the rest of his life. But that still is not sufficient for the criminal acts he's committed.

yes, that's how the law works

The law also takes into account their actual age/mental maturity and the crimes they committed. If you think a 17 year old and a 7 year old who kill somebody gets the same sentence just because "they're both minors" then you don't know the law as well as you think you do.

When Sammy died there wasn't any action happening. When Lee died it was literally during a firefight and if she was slow she'd miss the execution of the POTUS. They're not comparable situations. They had time to mourn for Sammy, not for Lee. Lee would also want them to not stop to mourn over her, she like specifically told her about how important getting the shot is.

Yeah I don't get the big deal about drinking milk recreationally. I only use it for cereal and I have cereal maybe once every few years or so. I might use it more when I start cooking more, I guess.
