Ben isn't a shtick. Anything he says as himself is pretty trustworthy, I think. Like, if Ben is an act, he wouldn't contradict Trilo so blatantly. Or if it is an act or shtick, it's all the more reason to believe he doesn't actually have any feelings for Regina.

Trilo is the shtick and a way for him to vent all his repression.

It's a throwaway line but the one time Ben actually talks about Regina as Ben, he says he doesn't like her very much.

I actually think the 2-3 anime adaptation is really, really good

Maximillion Galactica: 6.5/10

Kind of an underrated defendant. While he's a jerk, he's a jerk with a point who actually wants what's best for the circus. The Billy Bob Johns thing is kinda silly but I like it.

Regina Berry: 3.5/10

I think Regina is a good example of innocent cruelty. She always means well, but she never understands the consequences or effects her words and actions have on others. Still, the fawning over her is a bit much and her naivete strains credulity at times.

Russell Berry: 4/10

Like Regina, Russell is someone who means well, but he's a good example of what happens when you shelter your kids from reality. I do like that everyone respected him, even Max.

Benjamin Woodman & Trilo Quist: 7.5/10

Trilo is hilarious. That's right. I said it. He's like Ace Attorney's version of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. Him exploding every time Franziska whips him is funny, too.

As for Ben, I don't think he actually likes Regina romantically. I think he's doing it as a way to get back at Max because he knows he likes Regina. He does everything through Trilo because he knows it's absurd, Max knows it's absurd, but he knows Regina will buy it. The dude has a lot of repressed anger, and Trilo is his vessel to let it all out.

Lawrence "Moe" Curls: 7.5/10

What a difference a day can make. He's almost insufferable on the first day, but he's great on the second day once he finally drops the bad clown act. Almost every character in this case has some hidden depths to them (and needs a lot of therapy), and it's part of why I think this case is underrated.

Ken "Acro" Dingling: 8.5/10

Fantastic culprit. The murder plot is bonkers, but whatever. Facing him in court is interesting because he's completely unflappable, and his breakdown is appropriately subdued and sympathetic.

Actually one of my favorite sports moments was watching the Jauan Jennings Hail Mary catch as the only Vols fan watching with a bunch of Georgia fans. It's what I imagine winning a big road game as a pro athlete feels like!

Giving yourself the best chance to win isn't cowardice. Like has been pointed out, victory is never guaranteed (unless you're Steiner and Chris has made deals with everyone he never has to pay off).

It's so weird that we want other people to do it the hard way when we'd be perfectly fine getting it the easy way if it fell in our lap too

Kinda surprised because it's such an overplayed song, even on stations that play 90s music to this day!

Oh I fully get why some of the Lightning savers would push for Edward over Auron in that final 3, it's easy to see why some might do that.

But, if it wasn't because they actually like Edward more then Auron (there were a few in that position iirc and that's fine!) and they did it solely to give Lightning the win, I will absolutely with my full chest say they are cowards and they get a bit of a side eye from me. And they should be perfectly fine taking that and not take offense to being called on it lol. You can do the same to me if I ever do something like that too!

Lightning vs Auron would've been exciting if nothing else. A forgone conclusion just makes everyone feel like they wasted their time.

Turner Grey: 4/10

Almost entirely for that screenshot of him giddily pointing the gun at Mimi after being stabbed in the chest. The constant glasses adjusting might irrationally annoy me more than any animation in the series though.

Morgan Fey: 2.5/10

Just a total waste of a character. When people say they dislike all the Fey stuff, I get it with Morgan. She's such a clich villain. You never get to confront her. You never make her confess. She's just collateral damage and then she masterminds 3-5 without actually being present in the case. Utterly unsatisfying as a villain.

Ini Miney: 7/10

I used to not like her because her ditzy personality is tiresome and conversations with her are difficult as a result. However, in hindsight once you realize it's all an act and you can see the moments when Mimi drops the mask, it makes her a lot more interesting.

Director Hotti: 5/10

Dude is super creepy, I get it, but he still makes me laugh during the times when he's not being a creep.

For me, it would probably be some time in T&T between Kudo and all of 3-5.

I've never really cared about that. People like to make jokes about the "eat your hamburgers, Apollo" stuff, but the Ace Attorney localization is so brilliant that I find it more impressive than silly that they pulled it off.
