If you get lucky in just the right group, discord can be so good. Ive been on one server of a small-ish group of online friends. The server started in March 2016 and is still going great. It transitioned to there from an Australian Nintendo message board that was dying.

I wasnt worried so much about travelling solo. I was mostly just worried about the language issue, but that turned out to be ok. I didnt have any major issues.

Im in Australia. If you work full time, you basically get four weeks off per year.

Tonight is my last night in Japan. It has been an amazing holiday.
The Nintendo Museum was incredible and Super Nintendo World was fun. I don't think I ever need to go to another theme park though. It was extremely crowded.

You're probably sol on the fingerprint scanner. There might be software in the repo though.

I did a lot of research and found instructions from several years ago on how to get it working. But the custom software that people had patched together didnt seem to be compatible with the latest version of Mint.

Yes. I installed Mint on my Thinkpad. It has taken a lot of work to get it running decently. First the fingerprint sensor doesn't work. The speakers aounded terrible until I set up an audio filter that attempts to replicate the Windows audio driver.

I still need to work out why it doesn't turn the laptop off after shutting down.
It also seems slower than when it was running Windows 10.

Im kind of disappointed, but I will give it more time

run command prompt in admin
Type in
Diskpart
List disk
It will show all the disks recognised by the system with a number. Work out which is the new one and see its number
Sel disk insert number here
Clean

This will totally remove all the formatting and partitions.
Now go to disk management. The disk will now show up that it needs to me initialised. You can now set it to a GPT disk and format it for windows to use like normal.

It has been great so far.

Over the weekend I installed Linux Mint on my Thinkpad because it doesnt Windows 11 officially.
It has required hours of messing around and research to get it usable to an acceptable level.
It doesn't support the fingerprint sensor.
Without the official Lenovo audio driver for Windows, the speakers sounded terrible. After a few hours of searching I found a solution that mostly fixes it by using software that applies an audio filter that mostly replicates the audio filter from Windows.
Video performance was poor. After turning off display scaling and increasing the font size instead, that has improved.
It wont shut down all the way. The OS shuts down, but the laptop doesn't turn off. I have to hold the power button down. I havent found a solution for that yet.

I just checked and mine is also is saying I can enrol. But this weekend Im going to install Linux Mint on this laptop. I basically only use it for web browsing, so the OS doesnt really matter. Its just too nice of a laptop to replace.
It is a Thinkpad X1, which was a very high end model when it was new. Core i7, 8GB RAM, really nice looking 1440p LCD, nice keyboard and trackpad.
The CPU is just too old to officially support 11.

Im glad I never bothered with Gamepass. I just buy the games I want to play. I dont want more subscriptions.

I live in a very small city in Australia. Going to japan is going to be extremely different to what is normal for me.

Im really looking forward to it though. Ive been thinking about going for years. In 2023 I even imported a car from Japan, a Honda N One.

Ive never travelled to a different country. I dont speak Japanese (although, Im familiar with a few polite words I might need). I will be travelling alone. I will have to figure out how to get around using public transport.

I know people who have gone there before and they always say its easy and great, but you dont really know until you try yourself
