Some people just straight-up don't like animation, period.

What's weird is my brother usually likes animation. He loved Castlevania and Invincible. It's a totally different animation style but he liked Arcane too. We talked a bit about why he bounces off anime so hard but we couldn't nail down what it was. It isn't subtitles because we grew up together watching foreign movies like Battle Royale and various ones from Hong Kong.

Like he was kinda enjoying Rokka until the one cat guy assassin showed up and had an annoying laugh and talked with "nya" in his sentences. That one guy really dragged the anime down for him, lol. Meanwhile an anime connoisseur like me didn't even register him as the slightest bit abnormal or annoying.

I'm glad I managed to Brando Sando in anime form not only you but also your brother. It had the intended affect on him at least

Actually, Rokka was one of the two he finished (the other being Death Note). We watched it together earlier this year, I recommended it because he's a big fan of games like Werewolf and Mafia.

He kinda enjoyed it but not really, which is what forced us both to acknowledge that anime itself just isn't his thing.

After further evaluation and like 8 more episodes, I still think it's fine.

Not great, by any means. But a very comfortable watch. And an aesthetic I actually quite like. Not a super recommended must watch, but definitely something that I have no regrets or qualms about watching.

Speaking of meaningless records, the next anime topic is the 300th! I've said before that someone who has been participating in them longer than me should have the honor of creating it, but if it goes on too long without a new topic I will do one with an uninspired poll about next season's anime. Fair warning if any of the long-time regulars want to do #300.

That would count, but I remembered someone here saying it sucked so I ignored it. I just checked the archive website and it was UF8, though I also see now that Reg responded that he thinks it's good. Maybe I will try that one.

I honestly don't remember II very well. Leila was my favorite but I'd struggle to say anything about her other than that she was a pirate lady.

I mean, with very few exceptions my favorite character in any given FF is the main girl. VI is Terra, VII is Aeris (and Remake is Yuffie), IX is Garnet, X is Yuna, XIII is Lightning. Only exceptions are VIII is Squall (Rinoa a close second though) and IV is Tellah. Not counting I and II obviously.

It occurred to me that I'm watching 23 non-sequel anime this season. If I watch two more, I'll surpass Winter 2018 where I watched 24. I can't get this close and not go for the record!

I'll definitely watch that Chillin' with Level 2 Cheat Powers one, but I'm struggling to pick a second. Going by highest score on MAL it'd be that slave Elf Bride one, but... nah. The 7th Prince one is off-putting to me too with the overly sexualized design for the main kid.

The people who like other Highwinds save him for that. And who doesn't love tycoons, the drivers of capitalism? Alexander Highwind Tycoon could be champion!
