I think good and evil are fictional human constructs based on societal norms and culture, personal experience and perception.

That said, I think most people try do things that meet their personal view of being "good".

However, one person's "good" can be seen by another person as evil.

People can easily do terrible things under the belief that their actions are morally justified.

not sure I agree with this because it should be undeniable that helping others is good

anyone who sees somebody helping the homeless as being evil is probably a selfish jerk that thinks its everybody for themselves

if you are a horrible person then its obvious you are a horrible person its not a label constructed by society

sure I do! have plenty of physical issues & bigger books, currently subbed to marvel unlimited. didnt know about the other two, what are they like & what are their price points?

global comic is $6.99 per month with its gold and is a treaaure trove of indie comics

dc universe infinite is like marvel unlimited except it houses dc comic books instead of marvel

theres standard monthly standard annual and ultra monthly then ultra annual

standard monthly is $7.99

ultra monthly is $12.99

whats the difference?

ultra gives you access to the mature library of dc content from black label/vertigo and lets you read the newest comics 30 days after release date instead of 6 months which is what the service originally offered

you can also read the collected volumes of a series if youd prefer that to reading the single issues

do you honestly think at night theres nobody whose got a job to do?

I think restricting activities to daylight hours for those reasons is problematic

since it only leads to more people being treated like they gotta be doing something sketchy if they are a night owl

what about the people whose work puts them in that position?

See, this is sort of what I was getting at about online orders and stuff. Not that I would say a store really qualifies as a third place, but there used to be a sense of shopping being a "trip" that's going away. Again I don't think it's some huge loss by itself, but it's one thing in a long list of interactions where the human element is being convenienced away. And malls are an oft-cited example of a third place, so I don't think I'm too far off, although the big difference with a mall is that it feels like less pressure to spend money since it has many stores and common areas.

I think Covid destroyed the night life in America and thats another problem

not everyone has the same schedule but post pandemic were expected to do our shopping at the same time or we dont go shopping at all

Been watching YouTube videos detailing the demise of third places and I think it explains everything in the topic

when nobody has anywhere to really hang out after work/school

Youll start to feel really bored and depressed

especially if you are a night owl because most places close by around 8-9 pm now

so many places cease business hours after the sun goes down so you have to hang out before then and lets say you do

another problem arises if you arent somebody who drinks booze. There goes your most likely hang out spot

No. No they wouldn't.

That is like saying the world would be happier with only cable subscriptions. Obivously that can't be true since there are cartoons and animated series that wouldn't have been revived had streaming not been a thing. (Futurama, Gumball, King of the Hill, American Dad?)

Also, coming from someone that is impressed with Wednesday Addams getting her own show and that Christina Ricci guest starred in it (full circle), the internet did at least one thing right since we would probably would have never seen the offshoot if cable execs had something to say about it.

Another thing is that being forced to watch what the networks want you to watch at certain times isnt something I miss

you had to work around the schedule they had set up and if you missed your favorite show. Reruns werent guaranteed

dont even get me started on how anime fans had to settle for whatever scraps they could find

you are correct though that something like Wednesday never would have happened on cable television

if it did. Theyd probably give it a crappy time slot and no commercials to even tell people it exists

The American shows they had were good- I do remember a lot of Star Trek and X-Files, but it was disappointing not having good British fiction on a channel named the British Broadcasting Company.

I think BBC America is experiencing what a lot of cable networks are now

which is that they spam the same content over and over again

even if it doesnt fit the channels original purpose

another is ifc which stands for independent film channel

however youll rarely see indie movies or anything truly overlooked on that network these days

heres today current schedule for ifc to illustrate how crappy things are

the Steve Martin movie the jerk is on now

then it switches to weekend at Bernies followed by Beetlejuice followed by Robin Hood men in tights followed by trading places

finally from 7:00 pm until 12:00 am its a marathon of everyday loves Raymond

Sure that makes sense for Amazon, but if you're online ordering for a retail pickup, then presumably they have that item in stock, so you could've just gone in for it. Then again, by the point where you've confirmed an item is in stock it makes sense to just order it ahead, and even if you didn't, heading straight for it within the store isn't the same as browsing the store.

I still try to just "wing it" with shopping a lot of the time, but I do find what you say is unfortunately true a lot of the time. And it's not like unusual stuff, but stuff that 20 years ago you would've expected to easily find inside the store. Now that they have online ordering as a crutch (whether it's for home delivery or just to deliver to your local store for pickup), they don't have to carry things as reliably. Unfortunately instead of driving customers away it just drives them to order online, since any similar competitor is going to be doing the same thing anyway.

unless youll be out of the house anyways its dumb to go shopping for something you could order online easily

I think a lot of people will agree that you save a lot of time by doing that instead of going to the store and proceeding to waste time simply browsing the different sections

I still see teenagers at the mall pretty often, granted when I go to the mall I'm not there to "hang out", so I don't know if they're there all day. It can get pretty busy but I feel like it never gets crazy busy, like it was built with way more parking than it seems to need anymore.

I actually think about this pretty often when I go to any kind of store (mall or not). I feel like you never see places just packed anymore, and it's kind of sad. Amazon is lot of the reason to blame for it, but even physical retail sees a lot of online pickup orders now. That is one area I wish people would make the choice not to engage in, though I get it that some people might not find it fun to walk the aisles if they already know exactly what they want. It's even worse with fast food restaurants because they incentivize the apps with deals, and places like McDonald's (not that it was ever the peak of dining experiences) are making their dining rooms feel actively hostile.

All this removing and optimizing away the human experience of commerce is just contributes more to the feelings of dread and that you're only valued for how you can fill someone else's wallet. I could go on and on about the physical design of these spaces too, but I won't. I'm guilty of loving self-checkout though

I mean lets be honest the idea of driving to get what you want only to find out they dont have what you need isnt great
