Yes and no. As a fictional term used in fiction, it's intended to be insulting in universe but you can use it without issue talking about the fiction. Compare this to Huckleberry Finn where there are race issues in the story but you sure as hell shouldn't use certain words even in context in 2025.

Using it as a joke where the punchline is you're pretending to be racist is gross. Using it in place of an actual slur and thinking you are clever is really fucking offensive. To use an example that sounds less cutesy, it was really unpleasant when people on the comics board went around talking about how they hate muties as an x men joke. That one really oozes slur.

I don't think TC intended it that way, but I have seen some people online use "clanker" in sentences that were very clearly about racist black stereotypes. So, definitely a meme to be wary of potentially being co-opted

So many people expressing even tacit approval of this is a symptom of the breakdown of the system; it's becoming an outlet for frustration for many it seems.

The biggest issue is that if the US tightens its grip in a way that hurts the first amendment with this as a springboard, it's going to cause some dangerous results with it's equally adamant protection of the second. We don't want a society where utilizing our second amendment rights inappropriately is seen as easier than using our first.

It's not the best of the series but it's watchable.

I think people have overblown how bad it is. Even the bad episodes still give you something to think about.

This. I think it has a number of good episodes particularly the first two.

Many of the episodes are a bit silly in premise compared to what the show will evolve into, kind of like leftover tos plots and don't take full advantage of the new cast, but they are still watchable.

I clearly forgot the racist one tho..

Wing is a great show also, this poll doesn't really have a loser for me, just a slightly less winner.

I particularly like seeing an underdog hero rise to the occasion, and a rival enemy pilot who can hold his own against a Gundam despite being in an inferior machine due to pure skill.

Also a weird show like Nadesico with its hilarious character roster and unique approach to a mech story that's as much slice of life gag show as it is trauma filled horror of war.

Mech stories that ask difficult phikosophical questions and make their characters undergo complex personal hardship have become a real staple and I appreciate it.

Also if it's super robot, robot go boom ie fun and crazy attacks and retro aesthic
