In addition to finding the art and sound direction worse, I don't like that the remake removed deleveling via gravity deaths in invasions. It makes minmaxing more tedious than it previously was.

We've already discussed this. Dante's controls are completely cumbersome. His mobility is awful unless you're frequently changing styles and weapons, and he has no good source of consistent damage other than Real Impact. Nero, on the other hand, has everything he needs without having to change movesets even if you completely ignore his devil breakers. Playing Dante has all of the allure of pulling teeth.
