i noticed it being a massive trend within the couple of years of it airing, i hadn't seen a damn thing since ngl. all the jojo anime stuff i really see talked about is newer seasons, and even that felt like it fell out of vogue

it was nice when it felt more culturally relevant since i do like Yes's songs and now i don't really get the chance to talk about them as much

but yeah it was honestly at the point that as far as western songs in anime go, i was considering Paranoid Android (Ergo Proxy) over it, before ruling out both

think i'll just be expanding on my comments i put on the favs brackets so far for these, which should be funny for these bracket a matches especially considering it's been over half a year since i filled it out

oooof (this one was already very tough). bit of a spoiler, at the time i took scars as the top song of its 8pk, though i'm not 100% certain if that'll still hold now considering i remember i was a little down on Moonlight Concert at the time (still good enough to be my #2 then though) and I think I'm more into it on this listen. Also Battle 3 was my 3rd highest, so definitely a front heavy 8pk. also since i haven't really said anything about them really, i haven't really had the chance to really talk about how much i like scars, so uh i guess to put it how i want to most... some songs i've nommed before, some soundtracks i've gotten into, it was specifically because they had something that reminded me in some way of scars lol. i still probably don't rank it among best vgm of all time as highly as as a lot of the community though, but obviously i do still like it a lot. even if radical dreamers is my actual favourite cc song lol (and also the better game). as for battle 3, i think these recent listens for this bracket have served as an important reminder to me that lufia 2 is absolutely a game whose battle themes remain THE standard for me in jrpgs. this match is still close

yeah this match is something alright (fffffffffff) ...was my comment then, and honestly a pretty good comment for now too. shining wizard's really grown on me though so it's a little easier than it was then, but i have extreme respect for tigar

obviously seconding the aria rec (top anime series for me) and a silent voice's film (top anime film for me too)

definitely watch the later aria seasons, or at least aria the natural and aria the origination, too if the first one appeals to you, since they are my only two 5/5 rated shows on anime-planet

there's a lot of other coming of age iyashikei series i'd like to vouch for alongside it but i'll hold off on recommeding them for now

so my first actual recommendation is going to be a weird one, it's the nausicaa manga

surprised i was the only one to pick anything from the former big 3, i def thought of at least the first naruto one as iconic but i'm probably biased
i feel like roundabout didn't really have the lasting impact to be considered one of the all time ones so i'm surprised it's the overwhelming favourite but that's just me (also never been impressed by real folk blues either but that's absolutely a me problem. i know it has name recognition but it's not a song i ever really think about even slightly as often as space lion lol)

similar to roundabout, k-on feels like one of those shows that i find myself wondering "did it really have enough lasting appeal?" i mean at this point i'm pretty sure over 50% of people just exclusively associate girl band anime with bocchi now, and a lot of the rest would also think of bang dream instead. that was the main reason i disregarded stuff like don't say lazy anyway
i will say i did def consider fma brotherhood's ending so it's not really what i'd consider a full on biased pick

fulcrum just has something to it that makes it stand out that little bit more than you'd expect. sugary spice might as well just straight up be bgm for a fashion game, just with subtle aspects that expose the atelier side in there. if it was just a bit longer...

i wouldn't mind at all if every rpg song was just like nameless land. simply drifting being "too minimalist" is certainly a take, though maybe for atelier, sure? it's a more engaging song than most, and the only real reason i think it'd be a candidate for being considered that way is because it spends too long building itself up when it already has most of the elements more or less there from the start

love it or hate it, big donut unfortunately is the first battle course that naturally comes to mind for me when thinking about mk64 (in fairness, i personally feel like Block Plaza was pretty much a direct improvement on Block Fort that rendered it obsolete, Skyscraper is also better but nobody's voting for it anyway, and Double Deck is just as bad as it lol)

I feel like Don't Panic kind of misses the mark but the parts that i do still think are cool are enough to win me over. Autumn Collapse is definitely a nice song though, rather Koshiro-lite.

one thing i feel like bringing up in this topic is that i'm just catching up on all the various major new devices in this space over this year and man i did not realise how many dual screen ones there have actually been recently lol

after more or less kicking off the trend (or more accurately failing to) with the flip ds a couple of years ago, ayaneo have had three clamshells in the last few months, two of which are dual-screen (the flip 1s ds and the pocket ds). anbernic surprisingly are also only now producing their first one (the rg ds) on the decidedly more budget side after years of producing probably countless game boy/advance/sp/micro clones like the rest of the budget brands. and also onexplayer had a really interesting sort of non-clamshell one recently which i personally think might be their only worthwhile designed handheld in the last few years (considering most of their devices have just been "what if we split this controller in half and inserted a screen double the size in between, who needs ergonomics", it's not really a very high bar lol, but it honestly does look legitimately neat). Also, honestly pretty surprised that onexplayer actually released an android handheld at all, they're usually on the handheld pc side of the fence (to the point that i still think the rog ally might've actually copied one of their designs). (well, it was likely either theirs or one from aokzoe, which notably also released an updated version of their potentially plagiarised model this year)

(main difference between the two ayaneo ones is that the flip series is a pc one, the pocket series is android, though to be honest most of the specs are different even if comparable. both are also way more expensive than the thor lol (the pocket is like double, the flip like triple). the onexsugar is somewhere loosely in between and might honestly be the most expensive android handheld on the market now lol (at least it's unique))

by the way speaking of most expensive, outside of this stuff, i definitely feel obliged to also bring up the gpd win 5, which i noticed is apparently on the verge of release (it's basically shipping now) and an absolute monster that more or less invalidates the specs of everything else on the market... but uhhh, is probably not at all worth it at its price point also many hundreds of dollars above everything else on the market. other gpd devices that still get yearly refreshes (eg. the win 4) remain pretty competitive with other high-end products anyway and hopefully they'll now be due a price drop with its release (probably not but you never know)

overall though as far as the android handheld side is concerned, either the thor or the similarly recently released odin 3 is probably the best device on the market in terms of value right now (the former for obvious form factor reasons, the latter just for having the best specs... which considering its also priced below the pocket and onexsugar is definitely unfortunate for them). but it's definitely a competitive space now

edit: oh yeah unrelated to nerd hardware stuff i've been playing Stories from Sol: The Gun-Dog (the switch version) today. do recommend

Arcade-style puzzle games is where i often personally group a lot of ones with interfaces like tetris (or puyo or bust a move or panepon or so on).

Works for other genres like shmups too lol

but really it's no secret that puzzle games is one of those genres that really covers the widest array of games so specifying in various ways is important. some could easy say any mystery game with at least some gamified problem solving mechanic is a puzzle game too for instance (like i'm not too hesitant to say Ace Attorney or Zero Escape also count as puzzle games)
