Pronunciation is not decided by any singular person, not even the inventor of a word or acronym. See UFO. No one pronounces it "yoo-foe" despite the creator of the acronym saying that's the correct pronunciation.

Except they are wrong. They're accepted as everyone would know what they mean, but they're saying the word incorrectly. No one is stopping them from saying "teed", and it's not impeding communication. But that doesn't mean that they're not wrong.

Also what about when kids say "can I go to the bathroom?". That's absolutely incorrect in regards to the context since they mean "may I go to the bathroom", but it's accepted as people still understand what they mean.

This argument is just as stupid as "it's graphics not jraphics" argument. That's not how language works. The person who comes up with a word doesn't get to decide how the word is pronounced, it's based on a consensus of people speaking the language. And any time you try to come up with an "objective" reason why one thing is wrong but another is right, you make yourself look foolish. The only time something in language is wrong is if it goes against the established consensus of that language. This is because that consensus is the most important thing in language--language is essentially an agreed on format for communication. It's important for everyone to follow that format so that we can understand each other.

For gif, both hard G and soft G pronunciation are common, so neither one is right or wrong.

That is how language works though lol. When you invent something, you can choose how to say its name. If the inventor of the sword came back from the dead and said it's supposed to be pronounced "es-word", then that's the objectively correct way to say it, even though chances are that many people would continue to use the pronunciation that has been used for thousands of years.

It's amazing that after all this time, you still don't understand that something can be incorrect yet societally accepted.

No, it's not. That's just how the word has been adapted into English. Just like how hamburger is "hambaagaa" in Japanese. Neither is wrong, they're just adapted to their own language's pronunciation.

This is a pretty poor comparison. The English language has the means to pronounce the Japanese syllables, even though people won't be 100% accurate since they don't know how to pronounce the letter R. But Japanese flat out cannot end syllables with any consonant besides the letter N (it's hanbaagaa BTW), so you can't expect a language to adapt a word that goes against its rules that hard. Meanwhile you can easily say kamikaze as it's supposed to be said, rather than "ka-muh-ka-zee".

tl;dr
Both hard G and soft G are common, so both are accepted, but one is correct.

I really need to get this point across because you don't seem to understand.

The thing is though, that those things still have correct pronunciations, even if non-natives all mispronounce it.

So something similar: Japanese words like kamikaze, karaoke, Mount Fuji, etc. are mispronounced 99.99% of the time here in America. Even though everyone will understand if you pronounce karaoke as carry-oh-key, the fact of the matter is that that's incorrect. It's just a little mistake that people are familiar with, and therefore acceptable in normal conversation. Similar to how people will know what you mean if you say "for all intensive purposes", or "I could care less", even though it's grammatically incorrect.

Yes, I know that "we" refers to Swedes; the context was quite obvious. But I'm telling you that in this particular instance there's an objectively correct way to pronounce gif, regardless of regional dialect. And it's not with the same G sound as the word "graphic".

Although I must say that I'm still baffled that places would pronounce laser as "la-zeer" (la as in the word lamp), or scuba as "scuh-baa" (scuh like scud, and baa like bad)

We pronounce giraff as schiraff.

In GIF it makes sense to pronounce it as /g/ since it stands for graphic right? That is how we deal with abbreviations. And there is a baked good called gifflar and it is said with /g/.
