yeah ive played tlou1 i just dont like it that much. i mean it was fine. but tlou2 poopoos on it. i've enjoyed the ratchet games. also beat asylum and city back on the ps3. got knight but havent tried it yet.

games i really like:

titanfall 2, the last of us 2, uncharted series, outer wilds, the witness, yakuza 0, portal, sly cooper, super mario 64, tetris, rocket league, helldivers 2, hell let loose, out of the park baseball, splinter cell chaos theory

i guess i have a tendency to enjoy AAA 'movie games' as people call them (very stupid term i think). so i could try picking up god of war again. or do control. i am not a huge fan of giant open worlds, skill trees, and crafting so the less of that the better. i like open worlds if they are a bit more confined (spider-man, yakuza 0, shadow of the colossus) tho and crafting is fine if there is some kind of sitrct resource management involved (like last of us or dying light or something). i do like some puzzle stuff, with outer wilds being my fav game maybe ever? for shooters i like fast movement and have been rec'd prey or metro or wolfenstein (also enjoyed doom but kinda wore out its welcome). i really like stealth but ive never played the mgs series and refuse to play phantom pain until ive played the others. hitman is fun but i just suck at it. may need to retry. also a big fan of mascot platformers but i guess those are dead now.

just a heads up to anyone who missed his post - he has to use instacart to get publix delivered to his home even tho it is only a 5 minute walk away. because it wasnt bagged properly i guess. also because of bad weather. oh no i gotta walk in rain for 5 mins while lugging groceries around so obviously city life is overrated. i live in nyc.

my commute is like 20 mins on train including walking to the station and to work. my job covers an annual metro pass. in a car its 30 mins and also costs $30. alternatively i could own a car (lol) and pay absurd amounts for parking and gas and insurance.

i also have various department stores, shops, malls, restaurants, groceries, movie theaters, parks, etc within 5-20 mins of walking. and like 6 train lines within 10-15 mins instead of just the one i take to work so i can get around to diff areas of the city p quick.

this is why nyc is the goat american city.

nope. several silent movies shot on color film, albeit not generally for the entire runtime. and not the same as tinting in post, which was seen in many silent movies.

furthermore color movies had been made in two trip technicolor throughout the 30s before three strip really took off with a star is born in 1937, two years before wizard of oz and gone with the wind.

crafting and skill trees are two of the worst gaming mechanics ever and really do not need to be in nearly every AAA release. i can understand crafting if you are playing a game that requires resource management of some kind (the last of us or any zombie thing really) or skill trees for RPGs (duh). but why is there a skill tree in spider-man. there should just be points in the game where you unlock a move/gadget instead of having to grind. annoying.

also virtually all video games are poorly written.

Movies and shows today are much more willing to explore dark and adult content but they are less gratuitous with sex scenes and are less likely to trivialize the importance of consent. I dont understand how he reached the conclusion movies used to be more geared towards adults if hes not basing that off gratuitous sex scenes.

The director is saying that by no longer doing those classic sex scenes ala 80's and 90's movies, cinema has become non-adult. That those scenes are what made movies real adult movies.

You know, f*** plot, f*** cinematography, if it ain't got f***ing in it, it's for 12 year olds. You know, even though most of the movies that have such scenes in them nowadays (it has not, as this director thinks, disappeared from cinema) are comedies.

I've made lots of topics about Richard Linklater and his movies over the years and none of them got even a tenth of the posts itt... kinda annoying that controversy is what gets people going.

Don't care about the topic premise just wanted to say I'm a fan of Linklater's movies. I haven't watched all of them, but I've definitely seen the Before trilogy which I liked, even the 3rd one which was a bit more depressing. And despite high expectations Boyhood still ended up really good.

But I think what's going to surprise most people (it certainly surprised me) is that he also directed School of Rock!

Bernie is also another movie of his I liked. Some people say it's wrong for a movie to try and sympathize with a murderer, but I don't think that's what the aim was.

Haven't watched his work since Boyhood though, don't know if it's any good since.

If you see Garys story going from a dispassionate introvertan all-in-his-head guyto a passionate, sexual being, hes put himself in a very vulnerable spot. That is how you commit. When you jump to that its like, ooh. People do crazy things because of sex. People kill people. People kill themselves. It gets volatile. They do illegal shit. Thats the one thing that can drive you crazy in the world: when youre in that kind of white-heat passion. Thats what a lot of film noirs are based on: the guy who goes down that path. So were our own version of that for both those characters, for sure.

teenager movies are movies made with zero artistic intent and intended solely to make money. generally about some geek stuff like video games or comic books or some scifi/fantasy ip. likely a reboot or remake or spinoff of an already existing piece of media.

grownup movies are typically about normal people doing normal shit. sometimes even made with actual filmmaking craft and are passionate unique stories. generally described by people who like the above movies as 'pretentious'. also 'sleazy' if it includes a sex scene apparently.

this was probably true pre-internet when you couldn't have porn whenever you wanted that people would go watch a movie for the sex scene; and that would also make sense if they are less and less today with all this access

sex scenes in movies always come off as awkward to watch. where's the foreplay? where's the clean up? why are they wearing so much clothes? why aren't they switching positions? why is it more about his pleasure than her's? no one wants to sit in a room with dozen others watching 2 actors going at it. Just have 2 actors look deeply into each other, fade to black and move on to the next scene. we know characters are having sex, but it doesn't mean we want to see it.

likes: lady bird, scott pilgrim, last night in soho, wes anderson
dislikes: jump scares, mcu, fast and furious
other: claims to have never seen a foreign language movie, only old movies she has seen are sound of music and wizard of oz

roomie 2
likes: fast and furious, john wick, biopics (except for the recent rbg and winston churchill ones), superbad
dislikes: jump scares, civil war
other: has only seen a handful of spanish and french movies which she cant remember the names of. took a HS film class where she saw (only clips of maybe?) singin in the rain, a chaplin movie, and citizen kane

talking to normies about movies is so wild. i love it. anyway i think i'm just gonna throw a fastball down the middle and roll with parasite as first movie. social commentary, thriller, dark comedy, hard to dislike this one, CE. will earn their trust for future roommate movie nights.
