argonautweakend

I took this picture at the park near my house, and i like it. I have four different variations of the same scene.

The first is the original from the infrared camera. It was really sunny which is key to making the colors pop. In some cases, there is a nice contrast between the organic(grass, trees) and inorganic(pavement) elements, and that it present here. Exposure is a little too dark, but I like that. Better to be underexposed rather than over, I suppose, for this type of photography.

https://imgur.com/MMSkYmF

The second image is after I went into GIMP and changed the color channels to convert the reds to blue and blues to reds. This kind of inverts the colors. The grass(green in real life) goes from a blueish yellow to a yellowish blue, the trees turn yellow, and the sky turns a dark blue.

https://imgur.com/dfxES0N

The third image is some messing around in GIMP. I took the color swapped image and changed the white balance to auto(original was 2500K) in the settings, not sure what this would do. This turns the scene into something much more lifelike. The trees and foliage were green in real life, but this doesn't look too off. Habitable.

https://imgur.com/3tf5vVn

And now for the strangest of them all. I didn't think changing the WB to auto in GIMP would do anything cool, but since it did I took the original non color channel swapped image and changed the white balance and we have a monochromatic scene with aqua foliage. I'm not sure what to make of this

https://imgur.com/rWnhEs4

I am not really sure what to make of all this, but I am pleased with the results. If it's super sunny out and the subject is good(interplay between infrared absorbing elements and non) there is always potential.

Anyways, I only have experience with unions in retail, which I am for. Why?

The companies that are speifically anti union, such as they make you watch anti union videos during training aren't known for actually treating their workers well, so i'll take the chance a union might. Dollar Tree is anti union, but their stores are ran like shit and also their employees get hardly anything, so...what's exactly the bar here? I see non union places looking like shit, so certainly a union couldn't come in and make things somehow worse?

The biggest complaint about unions I see in this topic is how they protect bad workers. That is kind of true, but the flip side is, if you are a good employee, they protect you from bullshit. At my store(I am the GM), nobody could say I stole missing inventory without 100% factual proof. If somebody claimed it and pushed the matter, I'd call the union and they'd help me out. But since that is always a looming threat, that doesn't even tend to happen in the first place.

I worked for wal-mart as a cashier and went from 8.90 to 11.01 in 7 years. I quit there and started my current job working in a unionized liquor store as a cashier(same thing I did at walmart) where wages were around 11.50 starting, but through union contracts and such being negotiated the basic wage is now 16 bucks. I don't know what wal-mart hires at now, but in 6 years I essentially went from 11 bucks(after 7! years) to automatically more, and then contract negotiations that beat out any single raise I got from wal-mart. But, I became a GM and moved up so I make even more now. I cannot say how this would have played out if there was no union.

ONE of those things is bad, a union should have no say on how you vote politically....

In the US they don't. The unions will make suggestions and talk to you about candidates, but ultimately, since voting is a private affair, you vote for who you want. And if you don't say anything, they wouldn't know who you voted for unless they broke to law to acquire that information.

I dunno why I could get into Don Cab but not like Piglet and Hella. Something about old US mathrock seems really hit or miss for me. I should get more into Covet and CHON tho.

Hella is math rock for people with zero attention spans. I don't mind Hella though. Heir first album was dope I need to listen to the others.

Don Cab invented a lot of shit. They had a good mix of complexity, weirdness, soundscapes and hooks. A lot of bands seemingly have tried to do it again but they either forgot you need hooks and nothing seems all that deep. They aren't really too similar to Don Cab but they are instrumental. Save us From the Archon. Talented and neat to listen to but it's missing one or two layers beyond technical prowess at instruments to wow me.

But not everything is a missing match. Covet is dope. Piglet probably is but I haven't listened to them yet.

Oakland isn't spending money, which is actually great for them. If you're going to be a trash team like them, at least do it cheaply.

The White sox are currently paying Andrew Benintendi 17 million this year, the biggest contract in team history, and he currently has -2.3 WAR and is worse in some ways(On base percentage, slg, ops) right now than that one awful Chris Davis season in 2018. Davis had -3.3 war in 28 games. Benintendi is one point behind through 51 games.

I want regular people to make money off of this. I don't know what the current narrative around GME is, but if you have some GME stock and could make a lot of money off of it, please sell. Though I know a lot of this is the long game but it would suck to see somebody with a meme stock portfolio with millions of dollar in it reduced to nothing because they didn't sell, because "hodl" or getting back at the short sellers or whatever it is.

Like, I have some Dogecoin. If it gets high enough I can make a decent chunk of change off of it, I am selling. There is no reason to "hodl" in the potential scenario it goes well beyond a dollar and I have millions on the line.

People on r/conservative are elated Trump raised 30 million a day after the verdict, but I am wondering:

How much of this money has come from people who have not voted for him or donated in the past? So, entirely new people not previously connected to him

and

how much of this is just going to go to legal fees?

This doesn't really seem like a win, but I also do not know.

For the most part when a genre gets huge, the bands that came before are in most cases better and more interesting than what's popular.

Screamo is a prime example of this. Saetia, Orchid, Off Minor are legendary bands that until I had heard them didn't have much interest in the genre because what was popular and being paraded around by Hot Topic didn't really interest me for the most part.

Grunge is another example in some ways. I find a band like Husker Du far more interesting than Nirvana but without Husker Du who knows if Nirvana would have come around or what they'd sound like

the worst part about buying a car is that if you don't haggle, you're gonna get hosed. The dealership expects people to haggle. The hagglers think they're getting some sort of huge deal, when the dealership is still coming out ahead, so this just makes it shittier for everybody else just trying to buy a car.

I was at a local video game store the other day and I asked the guy if he had a USB rock band guitar. He did, and he wanted $100 for it. Now, first thing I did when i left is went to ebay and 50-75+ shipping is what they seem to be going for. But the man expects the haggle. Maybe I could have gotten it for 50 or 75 if I tried, but fuck that, he gets no sale.

I can actually do a good job because I want to and like to, not because some faceless higher up will yell at me for not getting enough credit card applications. Ive been in retail, not as a manager, but when you are constantly running around because a quadrillion dollar megacorp chooses to staff you the bare minimum all day. It wasn't always like that, but at some point in my 7 years working for megacorp it became that way. Skeleton crews all around. That's a corporate decision. Do you think the store manager actually wants people to wait in line all day?

I am now the General Manager of a liquor store which I like a LOT better, but it's a gov't job(control state) and I am in a union. THAT'S what it takes, I guess, for retail to not suck completely. But I am happy.

I have no advice, but hopefully some day you do find a job that makes you happy.
