TopicSo how is society going to deal with not needing human workers anymore
dedbus

Judgement Day.

AI is going to take tons of resources (energy and jobs) out of the equation for little to no actual human benefit. All the wealth is going to be funneled into those companies and their ai programs as it continues to cut human jobs. Human industry that pertains to life collapses (they aint giving you ubi) as there is no money going into it. Revolt begins and they genocide the masses through forced famine or nuke us.

Or...a new economy emerges separate from the central one kind of like those community farms where communities will be more self sufficient. Which will really piss them off and they'll nuke them for sure.

Saw it on streaming. Didn't really watch any of the publicity but knew that it was pretty derided because of the magical creatures and the actress hating men or something.Tried to keep an open mind but the lead actress really came across like she didn't want to be there. It kind of reminded me of that family guy episode where Stewey meets the host of the children's show that he likes and as soon as the takes done she's drinking and cursing and bulling everyone. She just had that energy of don't meet your heroes written all over her face.

I'd probably have said it was like 3 years ago, tops. It just feels so recent to me.

And I don't think Covid is the issue. The issue is that our perception of time tends to change as you get older. When you're a kid a year feels like an eternity, but when you're adult you get distracted and then turn around and it's a decade later.

It probably hits me harder because I'm older than most of the rest of the people here. But it will happen to yoooou!

I feel like the structure of being younger helps some. Seasonal and holiday times were more defined. You have semesters or terms. The school year and off year. Now I don't really participate in seasonal traditions and the days, seasons kind of blend together.

I thought MW3 was pretty balanced and a start of the trend to control and tone down killstreaks which probably made it pretty bland to some but it was also the most cookie cutter of that gen for sure. I think the next gen transition from the ps3 and 360 era to the next kinda fractured console multiplayer communities in a way it hasn't recovered since. There hasn't really been a tent poll release the way that Halo 3 or Mw2 were and they way chat and social interactions are modded and split among 3rd party apps as a consequence hasn't helped.

As far as American culture.
Every 90's and earlier Arnold and Stallone movie. Especially the Terminator and Rocky, and Rambo Series.

Planet of the Apes, 2001 A Space Odyssey, Wizard of Oz, The sixth Sense, The Matrix.

Clint Eastwood stuff: The Good The Bad and the Ugly, Dirty Harry.

Pretty much every Spielberg and Disney movie ever made.

Star Wars and Harry Potter and MCU up until Endgame.

I think if some encino man was thawed out and you had to give them a crash course this would cover all the fundamentals of stuff you and everyone else has probably seen and is referenced alot in everyday and other media.

I feel as though the last few gens have been botched whether by scalping, pandemic..related manufacturing and cultural issues, chip shortage issues, the crypto mining fiascos and such that we're in the half baked era. Generations that take so long to get out of their toddler phase that by the time they do its way outdated and the next gen isn't around the corner is the next house over. So you're left with this lag where the next gen is the stuff that's been pushed up from the previous gen and that even further blurs the distinction between the two.

On top of that AAA publishers are operating like they're on great depression bread lines and stuffing games with cheap artificial fillers, than going for the premium genre defining ingredients that made them the juggernauts they are.

they are not actually wrong with that statement

some people genuinely do love microtransactions in games

like a lot of people

using ac odyssey as an example, they made more money on the microtransactions than they did on game sales.
Its been a while since I've played an AC game. What microtransactions could they be selling to get up there. Don't people usually run and dump single player campaigns pretty fast and I don't recall there being much of a multiplayer base to their games after a short while.

Either way I don't think people having fun with their skin purchase as much as its just a slot machine reward triggering their addiction.

But with GTA6 on the horizon they should probably be more than happy with whatever scraps they can pick up that are left.

It was one of the few major cinematic pushes for anime. I think Akira might be the only other one that I can think of. I don't remember any previous works from the studio having the same amount of weight behind it. The fact that it was pretty solid and had a basic coming of age story without all the anime cringe helps it age pretty good and helps it fit in with the Disney classics. I guess there was also Pokemon the Movie but that fad was nuclear hot at the time. It could have been made with sock puppets and filled theaters.

Topichere is my hot take on skilled based matchmaking....
dedbus
06/10/25 1:57:56 AM

I don't think they implement it to provide even or competitive playing fields. There's just too many factors to say these theoretically equal players are going to have a competitive match. You take away having a "less skilled" player having a play style that has a "higher skilled" players number that makes matches feel more organic and unique and less a turn based win screen.

The only real way I can see matchmaking working as that is intended is taking your skill balanced players, throwing ping out the window and and compensating blowouts through live stat manipulation and handicapping so your target player gets a narrow win and hopefully buys some stuff at the store.

Weirdly I just commented on this in another thread; it's to reinforce the themes of the show that peace is an unnatural state and humans are naturally prone to war and fascism. War never ends.

For the Mikasa shit I have no idea, I don't understand the whole bit with Mikasa and Ymir at all. I think it's just that her love is irrational but its not really a flattering portrayal.

That's pretty much what I thought. That after all of that shit, human nature eventually burned it all down anyway, just as in the Great War was so harrowing that it was supposed to deter future war. So I looked online and another popular theory is that it was a counter attack for the rumbling but it seems too far into the future to me.
