this gets a bunch of other people to throw their money in, and he sells all his shares after they go up 1000%

then the value of everyone else's goes down.

So you make it needlessly pointless to do it without giving notice.

doing it without notice shows how people will actually react in an emergency. if you announce it 5 hours ahead of time everyone knows. and I never said the teachers and staff shouldn't know.

go read any article from witnesses of a mass shooting, they all talk about how it's different than they imagined.

Actually let's look at this another way.

How exactly do you believe a school shooter drill should be done? What are the steps and details?

a drill?

someone(whoever is the first to see the fake shooter) calls the alarm. And then everyone acts as if it was a real active shooter. and then it gets cleared when the cops/admins in charge conclude that the drill is finished.

I guess if it's middle school kids we're talking about they should probably be warned ahead of time, but this article was about high school kids and they should be prepared for an active shooter without 3+ hours notice. and once again, it should be at school, not on a field trip, and no one should be using anything that sounds like real gunshots.

I've already said multiple times that I've been present for multiple real workplace fire emergencies

the buildings that warned everyone ahead of time about the drills just so they could get everyone to sign and be compliant were terrible at handling real emergencies

the buildings I worked at that actually did the required surprise drills handled real emergencies much better.

I've worked in nursing homes for 20 years. I've literally been through hundreds of fire/distaster drills, and a few real fires.

If everyone knows ahead of time that a drill is happening, it's not taken seriously. people just "plan ahead" and clear the hallways and get everyone ready. this is not helpful, because it's not how a real fire emergency would ever happen. and this is adults. kids take it even less serious.

I really feel like I need to say it again: the police absolutely fucked this up. this kind of drill should only be done in school, and they should not be using anything that sounds like real gunshots.

it's not nonsense

I've seen how people react to pre-announced fire drills, vs surprise fire drills, vs real fires. People take the surprise drills much more seriously, and do what they're supposed to do, because they don't know it's just a drill.

if everyone active shooter drill a kid goes through is something they know about 3 hours ahead of time, what happens when there's a real shooter? they treat it like a drill, not something serious. Unless you really expect someone to shout "THIS IS NOT A DRILL!" over the intercom like it's a movie.
