Also, you backed 1995 so you've started to become a believer in Chrono Trigger right? In a world without an SSBM or Undertale rally, CT goes on to smash SSBM, take down FF7 and whips whoever comes out of Division 3. X-Stat projections are repeatedly pointing to a clean, no rally CT victory over OoT. It's CT so it will go flying out the gate against OoT. How do you think people will react? OoT backers, which is pretty much everyone, go into full panic mode for a super tense final match. I don't know if CT would really pull it off in the end but I guarantee CT would have made show out of it. Certainly better than the 57-43 final that was never in doubt that Undertale gave us. Undertale "fixed" a contest that didn't need fixing. It didn't rise to challenge an invincible game. It became an invincible game in a contest that didn't have one.

Not all rallies are equal. It was really obvious that at the end of Round 1 that Undertale caught a L-Block/Draven style rally and was not going to be stopped. That's a complete different level than Missingno. or Starcraft. The people who claimed it was obvious backed it up with predictions on how the Undertale matches would go and they pretty much happened that way to the letter. Just because you didn't see it coming doesn't mean other people didn't.

2000 just being Majora's Mask was due to the picture. It's not something you could have known before the contest started. It's similar to how 2006 was missing it's second ace in KH2. Like if 2001 randomly lost FF10 against 1995 and 1997 runs the same Round 4 picture, I would be in the running for a prize. I would also be the first person in line to say I was super lucky because how could anyone predict 2001 would go up to bat without FF10? I certainly didn't.

A bit of a tough match. The brackets near the top do noticeable better. 2001 did have 52% bracket support in the Guru and there are quite a few Board 8 users up there. I suspect things would have looked much worse if 1997 got a fair picture and won. I can only imagine what the complaints would look like if 1997 was the Board 8 favourite.

I'm not sure why but SBAllen doesn't seem to want external (non-Google) sites to mass archive boards that don't normally archive posts. I'm imagine it is for similar reasons to why the boards don't already archive themselves. I think he already blocked GuessMyUserName's archival site once in the past and now banned a url to the site. I expect actions against GuessMyUserName will continue to escalate if he continues to run the site.

I don't think console pictures are actually banned. Like the image submission form is specifically set up to allow console submissions. It could have been set up like the Games Contest nomination forms where you could only nominate games. Although, if they are allowed, I have no idea why they never show up. 1995 definitely had room for a PS1 picture.

In the case of Undertale it was receiving dramatic counter-rallying until the last match where everyone rolled over. Not to mention I find it hard to believe that FFVII wouldn't push Melee as hard as CT.

Of course, the fact that SSBM/FFVII got so many more votes absolutely suggests a stronger rally. Now, you could say that it was affected by the Undertale rally and that helped FFVII, but that runs counter to the idea that FFVII underperformed against OoT because of Undertale's rally spillover. Rallies are not chaos, we can get info out of them. Either way, the bonus matches show a remarkable consistency between the FFVI matches. I can't imagine the result of those were altered by rallying for a Smash Bros. game.

SSBM vs FF7 getting more votes is meaningless because of the Undertale rally going on at the same time. It is impossible to say how many votes came from an SSBM rally and how many came from the Undertale rally at the same time. Regardless of which game they supported, it would boost the overall vote total relative to SSBM vs CT so you can't use the difference in vote total between SSBM vs CT and SSBM vs FF7 to show that SSBM rallied more against FF7. As for which game Undertale supporters voted for in SSBM vs FF7, it doesn't really matter. The SSBM rally would more or less scale to absorb the effect.

Undertale vs Mario 64 happened later in the contest and yet it was weaker against Mario 64. The peak strength of a rally grows as the contest progresses. However, a rallied entry will not necessarily show its peak strength unless you push it and Mario 64 just rolled over and died.

Your initial assumption on how rallies work is simply wrong. You are assuming a consistency that does not exist. It is absolutely possible SSBM has a bigger rally against CT. Also FF7 did not need to underperform more against OoT than SSBM for CT to be number 1 so I don't know why you are listing that as a necessary condition. Like if you look at the X-Stats that are being used with CT as number 1, FF7 underperformed a lot worse against SSBM than OoT.

This is misleading. Undertale vs Mario 64 was on the same match day as SSBM vs FF7 and the Undertale match had the higher vote total. So Undertale voters were spilling into SSBM vs FF7 further making a mess of it.

RBY rallied. Mario 64 sat around and did nothing. SSBM rallied a ton. Undertale won all three matches with just over 51%. Undertale while losing in a match is way stronger than Undertale that is leading.

The finals seems to be a different beast and Undertale voters were no longer able to hold back their power:

The finals is also what spllied into the bonus matches. This massive amount of spillover is further corroborated by the massively inflated vote totals.

Assuming equal rally effect against FF7 and CT is a faulty assumption. The only way to determine the strenth of the rallies is if you already know how strong FF7 and CT are. If you start with that, it's circular logic to use the strength of the rallies to show how strong FF7 and CT are.

FFVII isn't gonna clutch every match. Nothing does that. MGS had the "clutch" reputation for a while and lost it to Shadow of the Colossus twice in a row. Mario has it occasionally but has also faltered, most notably against Vivi.

Even Zelda has fallen to rallies twice in a row, and OoT didn't even bother putting up a fight last time.

This. Pokemon has a reputation for being clutch and then Charizard went and lost a close match against Mega Man who was being LFF'd by Zero.

The absolute vanilla version gives you four jobs. You must use one copy of each job in every battle but you can change which character uses a job. So for example if you get Summoner, you can eventually teach every character Summon. There is also a version of the challenge which each character is assigned one job permanently for the whole game.

How familiar with FFV do you need to be for this?

It's usually not that difficult of a challenge and part of the fun is learning things you didn't know about the classes you are given. You only use 4 jobs the whole game so you get to become an expert in each of them. Also, there will be an active Board 8 topic about it so if you ever get stuck you have people you can turn to for advice.
