yeah I was watching the Weekend Update yesterday and I thought it was a weird point but whatever fine comedy bit, only now am I hearing about the strong criticism which is silly


but then this topic is always accused of being wildly left-wing, and is anyone here at all angry with Fey?

To be fair, the only place I've really seen genuine anger is places like Jezebel and the root, specifically in the comments. I'd say a lot of mainstream liberals are more along the lines of "uh yeah I don't think so" which is fine. Disagreement is good! Driving away anyone who is not ideologically pure is not (which I understand is not a controversial statement, but I feel like there are too many on the far left that disagree with that sentiment).

Perhaps I am generalizing too much, but I'd say there is a non insignificant portion of the democratic base where "anger" is the appropriate descriptor.

His position from 2 years ago is very reasonable I think! Keep the confederate history if you want, but keep it out of public spaces. Museums seem like great places for that sort of things. Too bad he has no real thoughts and just parrots the ideas of whoever complimented him last.

And I don't actually agree with Tina Fey, but there's no need to try and shame her and run her out of the party like some want to. You can be 95% with us, but to some that means you're 100% against us which is just super frustrating to me when we should be trying to grow our coalition.

A thing I wanted to comment on the jobs thing.

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences. So I do not want the government coming around and arresting people for saying something. But free speech goes both ways, and people speak with their wallet as well. So if you say something repugnant, it is absolutely within someone's right to go to your employer and say "I saw this. Now you see this. If you think this kind of person is worth keeping at your place of business, I will no longer shop there and I will tell others to do the same."

Now the business doesn't have to fire them. But they can, and that is ultimately their decision. Freedom of speech goes both ways.

If this trajectory isn't reversed or something else becomes more distracting, Kasich should really announce his bid to take the nomination away from Trump by end of next year. This is the first time that I truly feel like a challenge could be successful (albeit still unlikely).

I still think it's incredibly unlikely, but if things keep up like this then the Republicans would be smart to start pushing someone like Kasich that has been anti-Trump this entire time without faltering. You're going to lose the rabid Trump base, but at a certain point he's going to push away so many moderates it is going to be worse.

It'd be chaos though so I'm still not really envisioning a scenario where they actually really push for a replacement.

Idk his approval rating has slid pretty horrendously and weirdly almost immediately after he got elected, and I can't imagine this will do anything but drop it further.

If we see it linger around 25 percent or lower someone will drop an impeachment on his head.

But he's very good at just derailing and redirecting. Watch something happen with N.K this week that make people rally round him again or some shit.

The bad news is if anything is likely to happen it will be tomorrow (well today due to time zone differences). It is some independence holiday in North Korea, and they tend to fire off missiles places for maximum PATRIOTISM. Also South Korea and the US are holding some joint exercise which tends to make NK extra pouty and prone to doing dumb things.
