it's faster if you have to choose the state on your phone. otherwise usually nah.

you tend to reach a field where you have to type your name or something before you reach the state. then it's quicker to tab through the fields and type your states initials, as opposed to grabbing the mouse, scrolling over and choosing the state, even if it's first.
