That really is the problem with it.

Honestly, they needed to make it clear that Venom Snake was the *only* Big Boss or something. As it is you have Venom Snake and Diamond Dogs doing something, and then Big Boss doing all the shit he was known for in the rest of the series (fighting with Grey Fox, saving Sniper Wolf, etc. etc.)

It feels like it was a half measure because Kojima didn't want to completely invalidate Big Boss but at the same time wanted Venom Snake to be important and it just muddles the whole thing up.

Once again, the twist itself doesn't make much sense unless you think of it as Zero wanted Venom Snake to be a decoy where as Big Boss didn't give a fuck and just let him run around and do his thing to help him.

In fact, the entire twist would make more sense if it was Big Boss that was the decoy while Venom Snake is building up Outer Heaven. And that is probably the way you should view it since everything in the game outside of Ocelots speech supports this.

In the end, I think it is obvious that the point of the twist was to make the player Big Boss more than it was to explain any inconsistencies in the plot or anything.

Nobody has ever actually explained to me how the diversion makes sense.

Big Boss creates Venom Snake to take the heat off him, even though he ends up just going around being Big Boss anyways. What was the fucking point?

It's because there are a lot of contradictions in the twist. For one, in the actual mission and how the actual story goes down it's presented as being Big Bosses plan, but in the truth tapes, it's not his plan at all but Zeroes plan.

The best explanation, in my opinion of course, is that Big Boss went with the whole having a phantom since everything was already in motion, but didn't seem to actually give a shit and still just went and did what he wanted to do while also leaving Venom Snake to do what he wanted to do. Later on, they clearly pulled together to form the first Outer Heaven.

People can argue it but it's the only thing that makes any sense to me.

it's scary to think Kojima and his Death Stranding could end up like Inafune with Mighty #9.

I've said for a while it's going to be the real test of his supposed greatness.

He's not going to have the characters of MGS to prop up this story. On the other hand, he's actually creating something he wants to create for a change.

Of course, I feel that he has such a huge cult of personality with his fanboys at this point that no matter what they are going to see it as a masterpiece.

I don't know man, I never thought any of the MGS games were well written.

Maybe that's just me.

They really are not.

Kojima is good at directing a cinematic experience, I think his co-writers were great with creating characters in the first few games.

The over arching stories are rather basic. Kojimas twists have never been very strong when put under scrutiny as well.

His over use of retcons also hurt the overall series lore the more they are done.

The problem with MGS V is that there is too much of a focus on gameplay, so the cinematic style isn't there to prop up the story.

That's not even getting into how he completely changed some of the personalities of the characters because he seems incapable of creating a story where you play anything but heroes.

Blaming it on last gen always felt like such a bs excuse to me because everyone acted like MGS V was a "next gen" game back when it came out, but then it seemed like they fell back onto the last gen excuse whenever people brought up criticism. You can't have it both ways.

It was Kojimas first open world game, and it feels like it in every single way. That doesn't make it "bad" (the fact it is as stable as it is is very impressive), cause it really isn't bad. But when you hear that he cut out that mini metal gear tank because it would have been overpowered, it makes you think he didn't really understand open world design at all.

And when you hear he nixed Kingdom of the Flies so it wouldn't take away from the twist, but still left all of the buildup to it with no resolution, it makes you start to question if he's really the genius storyteller that his fanboys would have you believe.

MGS V is still a ton of fun, even if it does get repetitive and seemingly missed a lot of opportunities.

Yes, it leads directly into MG1. The plot was that the world reached a stage of world peace where all nukes were gone, which we now know is thanks to Venom and Kaz.

This was a problem for the real Big Boss because of his whole "world for soldiers" ideology

The problem is that MGS1 directly contradicts this. Similar to how MGS2 and MGS4 contradict the creation of OILX.

Also, I thought the plot was that Big Boss stole all of the worlds nukes. Or was that the NES version?

This is what I mean when I say that the lore is way too fucked up now.

I've been saying this for years. MG1 and MG2 as games should not be considered canon, just the basic lore of it.

But on the other hand regardless nothing will ever make sense after how fucking off the wall things got with Peace Walker and Phantom Pain.

Kojima fanboys get super pissed when I say it though. I really hate how shitty the fanbase has become.

It's kind of like how they say that there *needed* to be an explanation for how Big Boss survived Metal Gear 1 even though there was an (admittedly weak) explanation in Metal Gear 2 already.

Like I could just assume he was trolling, but it didn't seem like it. He has a lot of weird opinions like that. But I don't watch Dunkey for his opinions, I watch him cause he is funny.

All they have at the entrances are volunteers/con staff that just make sure your badge is valid. Especially since they instituted a "scan in" system last year. They just make sure you scan your badge in and out. That's about the limit of the security at the doors for the convention center.

This is what I experienced at the Indianapolis comic con. Just some neck beard fatties checking tickets and such.

This just reminded me that someone I used to work with was at a Furry convention that got hit with a chlorine gas attack like 3 or 4 years ago. That was in Illinois though.

I've been to a small comic convention in Northwest Indiana and then Indianas main comic convention in Indianapolis.

I found it really surprising that there were much higher security checks at the smaller con than the larger con. I typically conceal carry so I notice these things, but there was no way I think I could have slipped into that smaller comic con with a weapon because they had metal detectors and cops doing pat downs and weapon checks.

The main convention in Indianapolis didn't have shit. Not even a small police presence from what I remember. I could have snuck a weapon in there no problem and they had way bigger celebrities.

This. Pre-Iron Man, he was Hollywood's easiest punchline due to the drug abuse; post-Iron Man, he's one of our top stars. I honestly can't think of a bigger single comeback than that, even Tarantino couldn't resurrect an actor's career the way Iron Man did for RDJ. That meteoric rise back to the top pretty much overshadowed everything negative that came before it.

Tho....what has he done lately other than Iron Man? The only other major film I can think of he was in was Tropic Thunder in 2008. And those two Sherlock Holmes films.
