His greatest downfall was probably the recession, which happened at the tail end of his administration (which many treated as something that he had plenty of time to avert as a result).

Also engaging in the war in Iraq without the payoff he promised didn't help (we caught Saddam Hussein but it was more of a consequence of the mission, not the objective). Made the expense of life and dollar seem empty.

Sort of. Mushroom Hill was presumably added to S&K after the split to give it some semblance of a difficulty curve before Wing Fortress.

Yes but there are a few things they changed on top of that.

Mushroom Hill gets an extra Special Stage ring for Sonic and Tails (and two for Knuckles), the boss fight at Launch Base Zone is modified for Sonic and Tails (they don't fight the Big Arm machine, only Knuckles does), certain object placements in the Sonic 3 stages are different (most notably there is an extra life during the crushing wall section in Hydrocity Act 2 where there used to be a spring that sent you backwards), and the music is purely from the Sonic & Knuckles soundbank (so the midboss theme, Knuckles' theme, etc. are all pulled from that game and not Sonic 3).

You can also double-down on the Emeralds because the number of Special Stages is double (since both halves each had seven Special Stages with their own Emeralds). When you get to Mushroom Hill, the first Special Stage ring you visit will take you to Hidden Palace and turn all your Chaos Emeralds into gray giant Emeralds. You hop on one of these and play a Sonic & Knuckles Special Stage, which turns the gray Emerald into a Super Emerald. Collect all of these and you can turn into Hyper Sonic/Knuckles or Super Tails.

You're not going to be able to pull anyone back from extremism if you label them as irredeemable.

Admittedly there is some merit to this thinking. It's a big part of the recidivism problem within the prison system (we let people out, they get labeled a convict, can't start a normal life for themselves on the outside, fall back into the system).

The problem comes on where to draw the line. Some people are just plain bad and those who aren't so bad get mixed in with them. Ostracizing everyone can push the less incorrigible members to become more loyal to their entrenched brethren but at the same time, they are all advocating a very uncivil and discordant philosophy that shouldn't be tolerated.

There's a theme of dem/rep/dem/rep presidents. The reason is that when one side is in power, the other side gets fired up. This kind of thing is to be expected honestly. I can't see another Republican taking over after Trump unless he finishes Trump's term.

Indeed, that is the usual cycle, but unless the republicans rebrand in a hardcore way, I think the Trump effect will destroy that trend, and in a negative way for his party.

All we can say about black holes is there are a place of infinite density. The actual nexus of a black hole is probably infinitesimally small due to the constant collapsing of matter around it.

What effects that has is a mystery because there wouldn't even be a way to observe the behavior of it (since light cannot enter such a space), let alone travel to it.

I think of NSMB as the Street Fighter IV of the Mario series: a revisit to the design tenets of the earliest efforts but with modern thinking applied.

Unfortunately, that resulted in the same problem as SF4 for it: a game that tries to be classic but doesn't really feel like it is.
