I loved it for its time. It actually made me appreciate the Star Wars soundtrack a lot more when I went back and watched ANH and ESB after playing.

Also, the dianogas (i.e. that cycloptic trash-compactor monster from ANH is now a giant spider-squid that roars at you) gave me a fear of getting attacked in murky water, even in video games.

Lol ff9 Brady guide

What was so exceptionally bad about that one?

Instead of actually giving you the full information about...well, anything, the guide would give you a little side bubble with a specific url to check on their fledgling PlayOnline.com. Here's an example: 'you can find a very powerful weapon somewhere in this cave! To find out where the weapon is, go to PlayOnline.com and type in 12345XYZ.' This was the case for every piece of information in the entire player's guide, and that's not an exaggeration. This was in an era where most households had dial-up at best - my family didn't even have home internet at the time. Without internet access, the guide is almost completely useless (and nowadays it is completely useless, since the site no longer has the FF9 info). It's inarguably the worst professional player's guide ever produced.

I hope the game fails tbh. I Love metroid, but if they're going to resurrect it as a zombie carrying their bullshit DLC practices, it needs to die and die gracefully.

If this game in particular sells poorly, there's only one conclusion Nintendo will arrive at: 'despite all the vocal fanboyism, no one actually wants classic Metroid anymore.' The concept of 'voting with your wallet' is fine, but there's only two ways you can vote in this case: for the success of a series, or the death of the series. So if you want to vote with your wallet, try to get people to boycott the amiibo, not the game itself. Admittedly you won't make much of a dent since they'll be deliberately short-stocked and will sell like hotcakes regardless, but at least that way you won't be shooting yourself in the foot.

Prima's no slouch either. The Fallout: New Vegas collector's edition guide is about as in-depth as you can get (with some nice art and lore in the back pages). But what really sells it is that it's written by an actual gamer who's not trying to sell you on a game you've already bought - he'll tell you openly which perks are great and which perks are a complete waste of time, for instance. It's also peppered with some funny pop-culture jokes; when he mentions the Wild Wasteland granny gang, he writes out the full intro of the Monty Python sketch that inspired it.

And Brady's got the albatross around its neck that is the infamous Final Fantasy 9 player's guide.

Ashe: *gasp!*

This happens in nearly-identical scenarios almost a dozen times throughout the story, and it drives me nuts as well. I know I sound like a broken record to anyone who reads FF XII topics, but I think Ashe really falters as a 'lead' character because her arc hinges exclusively on the weighty moral dilemma of whether or not to smite her enemies with the magical equivalent of an atomic bomb. And what gamer at any point thinks a FF protagonist will actually opt to go that route in the end?

I get the feeling that they're just trying to get rid of it and finish as soon as possible so that they can get started on their american civil war show

Everyone likes to blame D&D for everything, but I can downright guarantee that they're far from the only ones involved in the show that want the damn thing to end. GoT is easily some of the most complicated and time-and-energy intensive filming that's ever been done for an ongoing TV show. The cast and crew have spent the majority of the last half-decade living and breathing this show (considering it's all shot on location), and it's not hard to believe that they're all tired as shit of it.

The Pros:

- quite possibly the most expansive and richly-detailed world in FF history
- the combat, while divisive, can be quite fun and engaging if you give it a chance.
- a shitload of side content
- Balthier
- Fran's backside

The Cons:

- Vaan actually deserves the hate
- several underdeveloped characters
- similarly, the story isn't bad (it's actually quite good in places), but a five-minute cutscene just can't stand against the 2-3 hours it took you roaming and fighting to get to it.

People seem to hate Fusion for alleged hand-holding and praise Zero Mission, while Fusion was much more difficult than ZM. I have a little trouble computing that, to be honest.

Personally, ZM was ultimately pretty forgettable for me (apart from the final mission, which I didn't care for), and Fusion is one of my favorites. I loved it specifically because it took you out of your comfort zone and put a new spin on the franchise - it rewarded your fandom by taking familiar things and turning them on their head, whether it be a super-sudden (and super-freaky) countdown timer event, or good ol' familiar Ridley instantly mutating into badass Mega Ridley. Personally I think people who get too wrapped up in what something 'should be' rather than what it 'is' deserve their disappointment if they can't see far enough past their expectations to recognize quality.
