Restrictions on freedom of speech worry me because the party in power switches frequently in the US, and what is deemed offensive or illegal speech is going to vaccinate wildly over a decade. I don't like the idea of criminalizing what someone says, regardless of how repugnant it is. (Obviously actionable threats are different but I don't think anyone is arguing against that).

If someone says something racist, I don't want them jailed. BUT I think it is absolutely fair game to organize a protest, boycott their place of business, or put pressure on their employers to fire them. Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences of that speech. I just feel squeamish if the government comes in to start policing it.

For the record, I'm not saying "arrest and jail everyone who makes threats even if they're joking", I'm saying "investigate all threats made, period, on the assumption that they could be genuine."

Because far too often people treat it like a joke and then someone actually follows through on a threat, and people go "Oh no, what could we have done to prevent this?"

And this happens over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over again.

Treat all threats as serious. Period. That's how you prevent it.

agree with this. glitches can be cool but runs where the runner beats the game mostly with skilled playing are my favorite runs.

i was asleep for most of FFVII, though, so can't say much about that run.

Yeah, I totally agree. I love runs where the runners are skilled at the game itself more so than skilled at pulling off glitches. I understand a lot of people feel the opposite but it's always been my personal preference.

FFVII relied more on "exploits" and planning than glitches. It was fun to watch once but not something I'd be excited for every year.

I dunno I feel like 8 hours for FF7 is incredibly speedy!

On the one hand, I always love longer runs. On the other, 8 hours is a huge chunk of time that they could've done like 6 other decent length runs. But they put it on in the midnight cycle which I think was good timing.

I was excited for it, at least. Maybe they're just trying to catch that highly sought after "me" demographic.

Yeah, true.

It is really common to hear someone running a game though while talking, then have them go "oh hold on I actually need to focus here for a bit" when they get to a tough part. In TGM, the whole game is the tough part.

A lot of the streamers I watch know when they can/can't engage with chat, and I just can't imagine there is a good time to ever not be 100% focused on TGM. It just looks crazy to me. Even crazier when their focus is somewhere else, even if it is only slightly so.

I don't get why they need everyone there commentating when someone is trying to run Tetris TGM of all games. Obviously it doesn't bother them that much, but during the rev run there were like four people talking, she was responding to some comments, all while trying to play one of the most difficult games.

Clearly they are a close community...but I would think if she could actually just focus on the game and not have a bunch of people talking to her she would've gotten further.

At least if it was me, I'd want like total silence. I get people talking during basically any other run, but this is one is like a constant barrage of "oh if I mess up once I blow the whole run".

Again, I don't know that for 100% sure though. It just looked like something to me that might not be allowed which is why I asked. My only source that it isn't at the moment is the reddit speedrun community but I don't know if they're right or not.

(I'm not complaining - I thought it was a fun run. I just wasn't sure if that was a skip or not based on the community guidelines)

He did one trick in particular that he even referred to as a skip. I know there are plenty of times where communities have their own sort of guidelines as to what counts and what doesn't, but I don't know if this is an example of that or if he just showed it off anyway because it was cool.

Half life was good. The pokemon run was pretty much a disaster.

Pokemon was crazy disappointing. Definitely the worst one I had seen this year at least.

HL2 is interesting but I wouldn't really consider this one too fun to watch. Lots of crazy tricks which are cool, but a lot of them require a big set up and you just kinda sit around and wait for things to happen.

Guacamelee might be my favorite so far, but that's probably just because I love that game.

Ouch. I feel embarrassed being called out on this.

I honestly don't remember why I did it, but it was the first and last time I did. It's absolutely wrong and goes against everything the game is about and I'd never do it again.

I wasn't trying to attack you or Han! You two are far from the only two that did it.

It didn't help you much anyway because Death got himself shot about 12 hours into the day and you had to run in in a panic to try and salvage something.

Then the guy from the NFL board got scared and ran away, allowing himself to be lynching (and losing your extra kill in the process).

It was not a great day 1, all things considered.

I don't know what I would have done if the scum team didn't agree on night actions, actually. Probably threaten no actions if you couldn't agree. What is protocol there? I actually don't know what happens if it is an actual deadlock.

It doesn't matter anyway because FFD was resolutely against the no lynch because he assumes you guys test the BP and they die. So the hypothetical there likely doesn't matter unless both the other players are unified for the no lynch. I don't think that happens.

That was my thinking too. It doesn't add anything, and at best, will make you look worse depending on who flips when.

But then Scare (top five town player probs) looked at it and thought "no scum wouldn't do this".

AND Nana, the guy who relies on statistics way more than he should and the exact person you do not want to do this against, also looked at the same thing and thought "eh he's probably fine". Nana. The guy who I once saw get in a six hour mathematical discussion about the pros/cons of no lynching day one (during like day four of the active game, might I add). He didn't blink.

So I don't even know what to think anymore.

I don't think they were tired as much as they were really, really sure that Han and Shad wouldn't park themselves on the RBer day 1 with FFD not even voting yet and votes flying around back and forth really quickly. It was more along the lines of "scum doesn't kill their RB day 1for seemingly no reason" was their basic argument. Scare spent the entire night cycle the day before going through old posts, so even if some of them were tired Scare clearly had energy left to do the work for them.

Scare actually started the research cycle quoting your "name all the scum post" and mentioned something like "huh this is weird" but then got caught down the red rabbit hole. Also all of your posts after that (or the scum team's posts towards you) made it look more and more unlikely you were the RBer. So it was possible that could have happened if you guys hadn't played well!

I debated informing you guys vs not informing you guys back and forth.

Ultimately I didn't want the RB getting bussed because "oh who cares we have a second one anyway". I don't think that is fun (but then everyone tried to bus you anyway so 'whoops'). It is the same reason I don't like usurper roles, really, in that I'd like all of scum working together and not plotting to gank one for a strategic advantage.

Plus I thought the kingsmoot would be FUN and didn't want to make someone on the team a backup RBer. Again, in my 19 person setup there was a rotating blocker and I still kinda wanted to leave the option open for whole would be the backup next. Letting you guys pick who would inherit the seastone chair was fun for flavor reasons.

Also ever since I've seen "SECRET" roles or conditions in FFD Mafia (still one of my favorite mafias) I've been kind of obsessed with them. It adds this fun level of possible chaos to the game in a way that doesn't fundamentally undermine the basics of the game. I'm not crazy enough to put in bonkers awful roles like death miller or joker or anything like that, but I feel like little twists here and there keep things interesting and fresh. Just my opinion, though!

On the flip side I specifically remember you saying something along the lines of "home run ball here is block death shoot Leo" the night before you shot him.

That leaves the unconfirmed BG alive, kills Leo before he can kill Shad, and keeps Death trapped in roleblock hell so you guys possibly win a couple days earlier!

Also the reason I thought MI surviving to gank Death was big was it automatically put Leo in RB hell the rest of the game (because of course he is going to try to recruit the body removed Death) so even if you guys got cute and decided not to RB Leo at all, he still would've been roleblocked.

Ben was actually already in a Suprak game before! He was The Zika Virus, TOWN Poisoner in Fuck 2016 Mafia. You were very mean and killed him night 1.

But yeah I felt bad cutting him last second. Menu too. And basically everyone else I had to that signed up (MZero, Sceptile, IGCD...I'm sure there were others but sign ups were like a month ago now and I don't remember).

The only one who had never played in one of my games though that didn't get in was Sceptile. I usually try to get a good assortment of new blood in my games to keep things fresh.

Until Dawn is a lot of fun (even if I was super disappointed in the whole "choice" thing after playing through a couple of times). The first play through was good times though.

I thought GoT was "pretty good". Just like Until Dawn a lot of choices are meaningless, but the story was pretty okay even if some parts were kinda boring. It isn't as good as saaaay Tales From The Borderlands but it wasn't terrible either.

And I don't know if anyone will really care but since I keep getting emotional in mafia games and apologizing it might be worth me actually explaining. If you don't care that's fine, but I think I'll feel better typing this out.

I struggle a lot with issues of acceptance and belonging. I grew up in a small town and it was not a good town to grow up gay in. When I came out, I literally lost all of my friends and the church I went to asked me not to come back again. The remaining years of high school sucked and I moved to a big town as soon as I graduated and my life is great now, but those issues stick with me. If a couple of my friends hang out without me, I still struggle with feeling like they don't actually like me and want me around them.

So in mafia, when it comes to getting lynched... that's what I feel like. Like that game doesn't want me in it. Which I know, I KNOW is stupid. Especially when I actually am scum and you actually need to lynch me. But those feelings, combined with no one responding to my posts, took me to a dark place. If I just put my phone down for 30 minutes I would've calmed down, but I didn't and I spiraled and I'm sorry. I love playing mafia, but it sure can mess with me.

Also you shouldn't feel that way here! I know just saying that isn't really going to change how you feel about things, but no one here is trying to run you out for who you are.

EXCEPT for Shad. That dude is just a straight up monster though.
