I evacuated to my brother's in Orlando. I'm at Disney all the time anyway because I have an annual pass, but it was crazy there today. I hadn't seen the park this empty since the 90s when there was actually a down season. I walked on most of the rides and waited half an hour at most for the premium rides like the 7 Dwarfs Mine Train. I would highly recommend people do this when they evacuate to Orlando during hurricanes.

Is it going to hit her? School is cancelled for Sunday and Monday.

Just about everybody's gonna get something. It isn't gonna be historically bad for Gainesville though. You probably get a real hurricane, your power goes out, some unlucky folks lose their houses to trees falling, etc., but it's not gonna be as bad as it was out in the Caribbean.

I evacuated out of Hollywood on Thursday to Orlando. Even if the worst of it misses my place and Orlando gets a decent one, I feel fine about getting out. Orlando's far enough inland it's hard for a real murderer of a storm to keep strong long enough up the state to get there at full strength. There was a real shot when we left that the eye was coming down the east coast and you can't fuck around with that. If you evacuate and it was necessary, it saves your life. If you evacuate and it turned out not to be necessary, you come home to your house being mostly in tact.

ds9 isn't gene's vision

Rodenberry gets too much credit. Gene Coon came up with half the shit people remember about Trek, like Klingons, Khan, the Federation, and the Prime Directive. TNG only became legitimately great once Michael Piller took over. Rodenberry's vision includes insane unfilmable nonsense like Risa being a weird gay orgy planet and stupid rules like "no internal conflict among main characters," as if the heart of TOS wasn't Spock and McCoy arguing about shit. Rodenberry's incredibly important, but his vision isn't infallible and often acted to detriment of the franchise when left uncontested.

DS9 starts slow, but it's much more in line with modern serialized TV once it gets going. If you're into long form story driven stuff like The Wire or Breaking Bad, DS9 is as close as Trek gets to that style of TV. It doesn't really get into the serialization heavily until later on, but it has much more of it than TNG which is almost entirely a spatial anomaly of the week sort of thing.

Illegal immigration was at its lowest levels in decades in the last years of the Obama administration. Its sudden cropping up as the defining issue of the campaign was identity politics bullshit to mobilize half wits around dog whistled white nationalism. My stance on illegal immigration is enforce the laws with the resources we already had allocated, as that seemed to be working. Illegal immigration is not a good thing, but if it's bad, it's among the least harmful and costly ills plaguing our country.

Took me a while to realize that once you reach the last stage of the fight with the spike wall, it's basically unlikable. Even if it's easy, it's a shitty fight because it just encourages the worst elements of Sonic, where you abuse invisibility frames beat on bosses.

The part I didn't like about Metal Sonic was deflecting that spin-dashing robot. Maybe there's a pattern I didn't see, but it felt a little RNG to me.

Just do the weakest spin dash possible when the little robots spin dash. They always angle perfectly to hit Metal Sonic.

I genuinely have 0 idea what your negative expectation would be about a person if your hear that they listen to the Joe Rogan podcast. Please do tell me.

And I can already tell that your the type of person who is impossible to have a conversation with because your dumbass ideology makes it impossible for you to be intellectually honest.

apparently catholics in general tend to vote democrat, which probably means most of them tend to be more liberal than other protestant sects.

Historically, Catholicism was more of an urban immigrant religion in the US. Irish, Italian, and Polish Catholic immigrants all concentrated themselves in enclaves inside major urban centers. There's still remnants of this, but now a major part of the American Catholic population is Hispanic, who have tended to vote Democrat, though not to the degree black people do.

Nazism has a bunch of built in mechanisms for deflecting self reflection and attempts to change their minds. Attempting to reason with people who think the Holocaust is Jewish fiction peddled by leftist academics to destroy white culture is pointless. They view people who don't share their views as ignorant sheeple either directly in bed with international Zionism or unknowingly duped by sneaky cultural Marxists. Like I get that we shouldn't hit people, but there is not a reasonable person inside the heart of every Nazi just waiting to be freed by your civil discourse. They came to their worldview after a lot of thought and are deep enough in that rabbit hole that they're not going to just let go, even if you engage them in the most calm and reasonable manner possible.

Like I'm fine with shitting on Antifa black bloc types for beating up random people who go to right wing rallies. And if the argument is that even seemingly justifiable political violence against Nazis must be avoided because it inevitably will involve harming innocents, that's also a fine point. There is a great leap one has to make to just be right wing and an actual card carrying swastika brandishing Nazi, but any practical application of what a Nazi advocates involves either death or unreasonable amounts of human suffering.

Dark Souls, Red Dead, & Elder Scrolls. Couldn't get into any of them & really don't see the appeal.

I'm the exact opposite. I love big open world games like that and can't get into an old school turn based JRPG to save my life. I'll explain why I like the stuff you dislike.

I really enjoy open world games because I enjoy the illusion of finding my own fun in the game. The quests can be good and involving, but the setting is usually what pulls me in. I can still see in my mind so much of the nooks and crannies of Cyrodiil from Oblivion. I love getting immersed in the world of Red Dead's Old West, tracking down bandits and hunting down bears in the forests and creeks of the Rockies.

When I play JRPGs, I can never disconnect from the idea that I am a person pressing buttons on a controller to select options from a menu. I think it's because I never played an actual JRPG until college, so it the genre has no nostalgia associated with it.

The worst thing about shitty BSG episodes is they aren't shitty in interesting ways. Like "Threshold" from Voyager goes fucking insane in the third act, with Tom Paris kidnapping Janeway, devolving both of them into salamanders, and breeding with her. BSG is hamstrung by the grim tone and realism in its bad episodes where at least a bad Trek episodes has some camp value.

The way Adama puts the ship in harm's way to rescue Starbuck never sat well with me. A good leader shouldn't show such blatant favoritism towards people he has a relationship with. Humanity in BSG is in such constant danger that it's even less forgivable than normal.

I'm really sad they took BSG off Netflix. It's what made me sign up in the first place and my last rewatch of BSG came screeching to a halt when "The Woman King" or "Black Market" came up.
