Looks like a very lazy re-release.

This is actually the first third version/Director's Cut/etc. that brings all new Pokemon to the fold, so that's one thing it has up on Yellow/Crystal/Emerald/Platinum/BW2.

I'd rather see them fix the horrid distribution and appearance rates of new Pokemon that were in Sun/Moon. Maybe they have, but it still amazes me how they fucked that up so bad.

I was about to go and rewatch Young Justice on Netflix only to find out it's been removed. Like, wut. How are they producing the third season but don't even have the rights to the first two??????

Netflix has nothing to do with the return of Young Justice. WB is also getting in on the streaming thing and launching their own service. Young Justice and some live action Teen Titans series will be their debut series.

I guess being on Netflix gave the series some exposure, which led to the revival in the first place. But now you gotta subscribe to whatever WB's thing is to watch it again.

No, in the book it's clearly explained as happenstance, or fate, that they were all there. They were all on their own quests that ended up bringing them all to Rivendell at that time.

Yeah, I'm reading the book right now and like half of the guests at the Council were there to seek Elrond's advice on matters that ended up relating to the Ring/Sauron in some way. And then there a couple Elves that don't appear in the film.

I guess the biggest flaw of my topic is that I chose the most fleshed out fantas book world to contend with a video game world that has many superiors as far as having a fleshed out world. Among them are Elder Scrolls, Dark Souls, and Baldur's gate. If you want feel free to compare LOTR to a video game world you feel is more fleshed out.

I think it might have made more sense to compare Zelda to another video game world. Tolkien's universe was specifically built to be rich with detail and lore. Zelda was intended to be a video game first and foremost, and only later did it start to build itself up.

Also, there is only one particular set of weapons for sale in the game. And they're worth the money and ingredients needed. The majority of weapons you just find out in the world.

Your first point I don't get because I don't see how the games faked being open. They were pretty clearly on the linear side to me. And there's nothing wrong with that.

As for difficulty, I don't think it's that much different than SM64 or Sunshine. Maybe the first Galaxy was a little easier than them, but Galaxy 2 was harder. Spinning helping out with jumps didn't change that.

I dunno, they sort of felt like they were pretending to be open to me. You've got these massive planets, smaller planets, stars connecting them and stuff, but usually you just go from one to another in those launch stars, can't go backwards, don't really need to look around at all, etc. They give you space to run around but very rarely give you any reason to do anything other than just go straight to the next launch star. Launch stars themselves compartmentalize the levels in a way I am not very fond of because it means you can have a ton of level fragments without any effort to make them connected on a gameplay or even just on a graphical/spatial level. The worlds themselves contain multiple stars but don't really feel like they're the same world beyond the visual themeing and (if applicable) the world's gimmick.

Green stars in galaxy 2 were very cool though, made you look off the beaten path a little bit

Difficulty I guess I agree but I guess what bugs me more about it is often the very easy stars in SM64 are also very short. You can probably enter a level, grab a star, and get back out just in the time it takes you to exit/re-enter a course in galaxy. galaxy's levels are very long even when they are not difficult at all, which makes them feel like some boring slog that you have to get out of the way to get to more interesting courses.

Yeah you have a point with the pace. Most stars in SM64 can be collected quickly even if you're not a speedrunner.

mario 64 was just as linear as galaxy. In both games you needed to beat certain levels to unlock further regions, then you could choose to continue your world or go to the next galaxy/level of the castle.

I think anyone talking about the linearity of Galaxy vs. the openness of SM64 is talking about inside the levels themselves, not how you access them.

kirbymuncher posted...
no

they fake being open while being extremely constrained, sideflip spin walljump spin is way too good, they're slow moving, many of the stars are not challenging in any way for how long they take, momentum and movement feels very off

They've got nice bgm and look pretty cool though
