Where are they from? I've a few Mexican friends like that, including one that looks very white. In Central America we have a mestizo national identity so most Central Americans tend to identify as mestizos regardless of appearances.

He wasn't an idiot. For example he used a navigation method called dead reckoning to navigate unexplored waters combined with the strong Atlantic winds and it's not a very easy journey.
IIRC he was also a good mathematician. An idiot he was not.
As for his cruelty, I believe he was a product of his time. Some of the punishments he dealt to the natives weren't far off with how European treated indentured servants and of course the enslavement of the natives wasn't unprecedented, the Spaniards did that to the native of the Canary Islands.
I very much believe he was a product of his era. It's good to also bring out the negative actions done by said person but at the same time it can't be stressed the impact he had on history since it brought the new world and the old world together, for better or worse. Whatever some Vikings did centuries ago didn't matter because their discovery didn't lead to anything aside from some few desolate colonies.
History is not black and white.

I downplayed the hurricane on Friday and now my house is flooded and I'm staying at a family member's home. Since we live near Addick reservoir I've heard it may stay that way for weeks.
Honestly, I'd say people were downplaying Harvey way too much. I was looking at reddit before Friday and people were posting about it not being all that dangerous.

That's not really true. This country has always been xenophobic and it's not the first time we stopped or limited immigration like the Chinese Exclusion Act and the Immigration Act of 1924 where the government stopped all immigration from Asia and Africa and put very heavy restrictions on immigration from Southern and Eastern Europe.

Not a suit but last time I purchased sport jacket last was when I had one made from my local tailor. Ran up to about $900 I think. I'm saving to buy a suit from him or go to the most renown tailor in the city but that can run up to almost 2k while a suit from him would be 1.2kish.

Why does it matter if you're white? You know Mexicans can be white. I think around 23% of Mexicans are what you consider white.
Plus Cinco de Mayo is more of an American holiday. It's not celebrated much in Mexico except in Puebla where the Mexican army defeated a French force trying to install a Hapsburg monarch in Mejico.

Amerindian Mexicans have messed up Americans' image of what Hispanic actually is/means.

Most Mexicans are mestizos, they're mixed race between European and Amerindian ancestry. You rarely see like actual Amerindians from Mexico in the States. Obviously for some people when they think of Hispanic they think of a brown person with mixed facial structures since that's how a lot of people from LatAm look like here in the States. Of course Hispanics have a wide range of looks. Comparing someone from Guatemala to Uruguay to Cuba yields a wide variety of looks.

I don't know why you're blaming this on Trump. He WAS planning on stepping down in trying to remove Assad. Hell, he gave a statement about it a few days ago. You're ignoring all context. This wasn't some isolated attack, this was a response to Al-Assad's actions in Syria. Do you remember what happened in 2013 in Syria? The Syrian government used chemical weapons and the US came close on taking military action until the Russians brokered a deal in which Assad would get rid of his chemical weapons. So not only did Assad break this agreement, this makes the Russians look especially bad since they brokered the deal and he still had chemical weapons.

Would you rather let Assad get away with it a second time and the U.S. do nothing?

How is this Trump's fault? Assad broke an agreement he had with the U.S. by gassing his own people again after agreeing to getting rid of his chemical weapons and not to do it again. Trump is completely justified here. Which is pretty bad for Assad because the current administration wasn't looking to topple him.
