Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the only 3rd party game. Everything else is Nintendo staple stuff, so I'm having a hard time understanding how Nintendo has the best lineup at E3. Even Monster Hunter was announced for PS4 and XBOne, and that was the only reason I wanted a Switch in the first place.

Xenoblade is actually made by a subsidiary of Nintendo, making it 1st party. Also, the MH coming to the other systems is a different MH from the one the Switch is getting. PC/PS4/XB1 are getting MH World, which is an entirely new game. Switch is getting MHXX, port of the G-rank updated version of MHX, or MH Generations.

so...they can't add things to a game?

They can, and they have in the past (swimming, climbing, mounting, weapon arts and styles, etc) but these new changes don't appear to complement the already-established gameplay (stealth) and look downright silly (grappling hook), but, we'll have to see. The hook could add some extra depth to movement, but I also see it as a way to make the game easier unless monster behavior has been changed to adapt to this new feature.

This is the most un-Monster Hunter game I've ever seen. It absolutely is a spinoff, else it'd be titled Monster Hunter 5. That doesn't mean it's necessarily a watered-down, lite version of MH. It's just different, and whether or not it's different in a good way remains to be seen.

Remember the golden age?

FF4 - 1991
FF5 - 1992
FF6 - 1994
FF7 - 1997
FF Tactics - 1997
FF8 - 1999
FF9 - 2000
FF10 - 2001

All of that was released in the span of a decade. In the time it took to make that piece of shit FF15, nearly a dozen amazing games were released on an almost yearly-basis. Obviously times have changed and games have more effort put into them on the presentation front, but Jesus, even then, something like The Witcher 3 took three years to make. There's absolutely no excuse. Squeenix HQ is a mismanaged mess that appoints incompetent directors to lead games that inevitably wind up stuck in development hell, only to release to lukewarm receptions because of how unremarkable they are. It's beyond upsetting at this point.

Nomura.

No, seriously, it's because Nomura is a perfectionist that - if Square didn't force deadlines on him - would never finish any game. He functioned best - and still functions best - as an artist; not a director. But for some reason, Squeenix has him working on flagship, massive titles concurrently all the time. From FF15 to KH3 to FFVII Remake. He was axed from FF15 because at least one new game needed to be released this decade.

The FFVII Remake team just recently posted an urgent notice within the company asking for more people to help out with the game. This game is not only going to be a piece of shit, but it's a piece of shit people will be waiting years for. It's nowhere even close to ready - and mind you, it's episodic. You're not getting the full game for a LONG time. PLUS, the geniuses at Squeenix HQ decided to put Tetsuya "spend 15 years developing a single game" Nomura in charge of two huge projects at once. Yeah, zero confidence.

The Sony conference was meh. Monster Hunter World looked weird and off, but hey, it's Monster Hunter. Shadow of the Colossus looked nice, but it's just a remake, so I'm finding it hard to care about it. Spider-Man looked pretty good, but I'm not a huge fan of its style of combat.

That Detroit game was honestly the only one that looked new and interesting. I love the promise of a dynamic story, but I've no clue about what type of gameplay it has. I really don't want another 3rd person shooter with generic combat.

Everything else, didn't care. Dare I keep my fingers crossed for Nintendo? <_<

I really want to see a game - one game - that I can genuinely get excited for. MH World should've done that, but that grappling hook and camo/stealth and cinematic monster chase looked very un-Monster Hunter, but maybe I'm wrong. Could be great.

I was astounded to learn that the PS2 was the weakest system of its generation, especially when you had FF12 and Valkyrie Profile 2 released near the end of the system's lifespan, and they were easily the most gorgeous games available at the time. Good art design makes up for a lot, something that Nintendo - above everyone else - has proven time and time again. Kinda why I don't really bother looking at console specs.

Not me. I played Megaman X3 for the first time last year. Suikoden 1 and 2 two years ago. Super Metroid, Vagrant Story, Breath of Fire 3, Castlevania Rondo of Blood, and many other SNES and PS1 games for the very first time in the past several years, and I loved them all. In fact, I'd say I spend more time playing older games for the first time than newer ones.

I can play and enjoy SNES games - stuff older than the N64 - for the very first time and still love and appreciate them. The N64 just hasn't had anything on offer that interests me, and believe me, I tried looking. The only thing that comes close is, like I mentioned earlier, Ogre Battle 64, and even then I'm not desperate to play it, and I can rest easy knowing I probably never will.

30% of the list consists of 3D platformers. More platformers are represented than any other genre. Nearly 1 out of 3 of the best selling games were platformers. That is not insignificant.

Also, compare a list of 3D platformers on the system with every other genre. See how many platformers you recognize in comparison to everything else, and try not to be pedantic. Even PO, master nitpicker extraordinaire, can see how the console was overwhelming with platformers.

Anything that was ever considered good on the system has had better entries released either before or since the N64. The only way you'd ever prefer playing N64 games these days is if you were wearing extra thick prescription nostalgia glasses. It's a system that has aged poorly and has a terrible controller to make playing these terrible games an exercise in frustration and annoyance. Maybe when everyone sprouts extra hands like Hindu Gods, the controller would be less cumbersome to wield. Maybe if nuclear bombs dropped in 1996 to create a Fallout-esque post apocalyptic world, where everything is rooted in 90s culture and themes, the games would still be enjoyable.

I enjoyed the N64 when I was a little fart, Nintendo fanboy that didn't play on any other system. I went to Blockbuster on Friday like every other kid in the country and browsed the selection of new games, while ignoring the libraries for other systems, because all I owned was the N64. I have since moved on, and I no longer harbor any love for the system.

I didn't hate the GameCube, but that was the era when I finally started playing rpgs, fighting games, and action games, and not just platformers anymore. Not to say the GameCube didn't have any of that, but the PS1 and PS2 had bigger and better offerings. Kinda related to what you brought up about moving over to T and M rated games.

I wanted to branch out and play rpgs mainly, and outside of Baten Kaitos (trash), Skies of Arcadia (too rare and expensive, and not even exclusive), and Fire Emblem (ridiculously expensive), I can't think of much that was on offer for the gamecube. Just Thousand Year Door, which, admittedly, is a fantastic game.

Oh, and Tales of Symphonia I guess, which I don't go gaga over like most Tales fans do *shifty eyes*.
