Those games were all inferior versions or came out way later.

Isn't that kind of what's happening with the Switch? Inferior graphically, at least. The portability is definitely something cool to offer, but you know there are those people who get hung up on the graphics.

Ultima_Dragoon posted...
I still think the constant remasters/ports are dumb. Okami HD is apparently being ported to PS4 from PS3 from PS2. I might just hold out for the PS5 version.

I'm pretty ambivalent towards them. The thing I hate is when a remaster comes out it makes you question if you still own the best version of a game. That's what a remaster should be, but I find it's often the case the game loses something, whether it's cut gameplay or the overall feel of the graphical style. Or the changes are so minimal that it's clearly better but almost like there's no point. And now we're getting remasters from HD to 4K, but that jump isn't as important as the jump from SD to HD.

BotW is pretty different from any other Zelda, and I think Odyssey is supposed to be different from other Marios as well, but I'm at the point where I don't want to find out anything else about it. Also I really need to play Galaxy 2 at some point in the next month and a half

Nintendo's multiplatform track record isn't that bad. They had some CoD games on Wii and Wii U, Arkham and Assassin's creed on Wii U. The problem with those is that they didn't get those consistently, which is what I worry might happen with Switch third-party games. So far, though, it seems like developers have more reason to put their games on the Switch and Nintendo seems to be taking more of an active interest in courting them.

I forgot about portable GTA, but you know what I mean, a flagship GTA

The Mario Rabbids strategy game looks pretty fun and makes me want a Switch

SMH this is what makes you want a console that has BotW and Mario Odyssey

Kidding aside, the Switch... actually has games. Sort of. Sure, maybe a lot of them are just inide shovelware and re-releases of older games, but it's still a higher output than I'm used to from Nintendo. I wonder if they'll start getting some newer third-party titles that traditionally only go to MS and Sony, or if that will peter out once the well of sellable last-gen games runs dry. Seeing it get a game like Doom is encouraging though because it's current-gen, even if it's old at this point. Hmm, could GTA V work on Switch? Seeing GTA on a Nintendo console would be surreal

Yeah, the NES Classic lineup seems like a joke in comparison. I wish Nintendo would stop being so in love with those awful black box games. There are still a few great games on it, but I already own copies of what I feel like are the must-plays.

I'd probably still get an NES Classic if they happen to have any on the shelves when I'm shopping, but I'm not gonna wait in line for it.

SNES Classic also to ship into 2018 instead of just until the end of the year as previously stated.

I'll probably still be watching the big retail sites like a hawk late on the 28th and going somewhere early morning on the 29th, but it sounds like I actually have a chance at getting one of these.

I don't really hate them for any other reason than that they're annoyingly good. And by that I mean consistent - it's not like they're super awesome every year, but they are usually good enough to have a shot at the playoffs, and once they make it there you can never really count them out. They're like the... not Patriots, but maybe Steelers/Ravens of MLB?

Well, there's also the whole "Best Fans in Baseball" thing, but I guess like any fanbase, the good ones can't help it that the bad ones drag them down.

The Rockies have been winning lately, but the stupid Brewers and EXTRA STUPID Cardinals won't stop winning either because of their stupid crappy-ass division. Actually I guess it's not that much different from the West, with three playoff contenders beating each other up and then a couple bottom-feeders for them to beat up on. Even if the Rockies drop the next three against the D-Backs, they'll still be hanging on to the lead and then have a bunch of games against the Padres, Giants and Marlins, so they really have no excuse to not make the playoffs

And the Rockies' last series is against the Dodgers, so as much as I'm enjoying their massive losing skid, I hope they get it together enough to have sewn up the division by then. Hmm, I doubt the D-Backs have a chance of catching them, but beating the Nationals out for home field could still be in play.

The Broncos kind of shit the bed in the fourth quarter and looked like the 2016 version of their offense. Then they won on a flukey field goal block after they iced the kicker (at least that's more exciting than a straight miss off an icing). But whatever, that Chargers INT was flukey and they got away with PI on it, so it's payback.

Nah. Barely any money in it and I got a vibe like they weren't very organized or something. It was weird interviewing with them because they gave me the offer without me even meeting anyone in person. I think they pretty much just want warm bodies... not like I think I'm unqualified or anything, but it was kind of infuriating how little they required when I compare it to my other experiences. With tech interviews you have to fill out applications with (sometimes) detailed answers, then talk to a few people on the phone, then spend an hour to six hours at their office meeting up to 8 people, dressing nice and doing almost everything right but they still don't give you an offer

I predict that midseason some team will sign him to the practice squad as a lazy gesture of goodwill (and vague "need") that doesn't piss off the racists too much since he won't actually appear on gamedays. By midseason I think some of the hype around him will cool down, and they can make the excuse that he's "rusty" to put him on the PS. Then they'll never promote him regardless, and the racists will say "SEE, TOLD YOU HE'S JUST BAD"

That might not happen, who knows. Either way I don't think he'll be on a team next year and his career is effectively done

Are there any truly awesome burger chains left anymore? I was driving by a Five Guys today and thinking how pretty much every burger joint always ends up disappointing me nowadays. The "traditional" fast food ones like McD's and BK aren't that cheap anymore, which was pretty much all they had going for them the last decade+ after "fast casual" popped up like crazy. But the fast casual ones are kind of lame now too. I always loved Smashburger but I went there a few weeks ago and it took forever (they've always been pretty slow, but that time was the worst) and they seemed to have succumbed to the recent burger industry trend of raising prices while making the food smaller. I wanted to like Five Guys, but they're so expensive and I feel like I was over the fries after my second or third visit. Maybe there still is something good left, but they probably don't have it in Colorado.

Carl's Jr. and Red Robin are the only ones that have impressed me at all lately, but Carl's Jr. is pretty uncommon and Red Robin isn't very convenient

Yeah, what they're doing with the Dolphins is awful (and typical NFL). I think if I was a player I'd much rather give up a home game than a bye week (and moving it to week 1 doesn't count as a bye week). I'm sure the owners gotta get that home game $$$ though. Tampa Bay really gets fucked and doesn't benefit at all from this. And all the while these players (on both teams? depending on where it hits) have to spend their fake bye week stressing over their homes and their families.

Oh, I guess it isn't decided yet, but what I saw was that they're leaning towards moving the game to the bye

When I rewatched that recently, one thing I thought was weird that I never noticed before is Bart is virtually absent from the episode. Maybe that happens in more episodes than I realize, but it definitely stuck out since it's one of the most popular ones. To compare to two other ones mentioned, Mountain of Madness and You Only Move Twice, he has small roles but I feel like a Simpsons fan can fairly easily think of what his subplots were in both of those. I can't say that about Last Exit to Springfield.

I could have sworn one time that I heard there was an episode with no Marge, but now whenever I try to google it I can't find out which one it is or if it's even true at all. Apparently there was an episode with no Bart but it was season 20 so I don't know it

It's hard to say which one between Cape Feare and You Only Move Twice is more overrated. I think YOMT is the better of the two, but probably more highly rated by fans than Cape Feare. In whatever order, they make the top two. Slide in Last Exit to Springfield if you wanna make it a top three, but I at least can understand why that one is frequently considered the best.

Meanwhile, here's SkynyrdRocker telling us he regrets bringing up the Simpsons:

I'm not actually that high on season 5. I love it, but it's maybe the most overrated season (and has the most overrated episode, Cape Feare, which I know all the other Simpsons fans in this topic adore). I think it got a little too absurd and 6-8 actually went back to being a little more grounded and are better. Of course, even some of the most ridiculous episodes from that season, like Homer Goes to College, are classics
