Doesn't help when all the jobs around want years and years of experience.

Experience requirements are often more suggestions that hard requirements. Apply anyway.

This. I'm currently looking to transition into another job and I apply no matter what the experience states. If you are confident that you can perform in the position then apply. Just make sure that your resume outlines your skills.

I actually don't mind that. Election Day is much more significant and there is a greater need for people to be off work that day.

The driving was the only reason I was happy to get back to the Midwest.

Can't speak for SF in terms of traffic because I haven't spent enough time there, but I can 2nd that SD and other areas of Cali aren't as bad as LA proper. The 405 is the worst, and can be terrible ANYWHERE in the state, but the actual getting around on the streets is the worst in LA.

The funny thing is tho, you get used to it LA. Everyone who lives here deals with it and it's just an accepted fact of life. You generally don't get too mad at others or in trouble yourself if you're late getting somewhere in LA.

as for SF, driving can be bad (nowhere near LA tho) but also the thing about SF is that you don't really need to drive because there is enough public transportation and it's fairly walkable

That sounds appealing. We will probably try to tag along with him to SD or SF next year if we don't tag along on his Canada trip.

We all enjoyed Universal, spent about 9+ hours there. It's kind of sad that you spend more time in line than on the rides though.

The new places we ate at were Bubba Gumps, Ruby's, In/Out Burger, Tonys on the Pier, T-Rex Cafe, Captain Kids, and Zoo Grill. I actually liked Ruby's and Tony's the most, I was kind of disappointed in In/Out.

Government jobs have positives and negatives on extreme ends.
You'll work with some of the worst people in the worst conditions with the worst rules in place to give you unnecessary stress.
Grow children often have positions of power. Non professionals in professional positions.

You get good pay, heath care, stability, and paid timed off for the positive stuff.

That doesn't sound too appealing. She's looking for a different job now due to her current manager. Hopefully she can get a good sense of the person she interviews with to determine whether or not they'd mesh well together. The opportunity would allow her to work from home 100% of the time apparently so that's a plus.

I have read about this. I guess it's not necessarily a bad thing if it'll help get rid of the bad apples.

This is for my wife btw. Her current place of employment is pretty good so she has a lot to lose if she were to go somewhere that ended up being less than desirable.

I'm not really sure where Trump lies with the VA, but what would happen if there were budget cuts for that specific department? Aside from the potential layoffs, can they actually cut your pay if that were to happen?

Also, for a quick crash course on how our salaries work, most employees are paid on the General Schedule (GS) pay scale which goes from GS 1 to GS 15. So, let's use GS 9 as an example. Almost all GS 9s make $43,251 a year as their base pay and depending on where you live, you'll make extra money to account for cost of living. For specifics, you can look here:

https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/salaries-wages/2017/general-schedule/

Also, each GS level has different steps and you start at 1. So after one year, a GS 9 Step 1 would become a GS 9 Step 2 and get a small increase in salary. After Step 3 you have to wait two years for the automatic promotion, and after Step 6 it's 3 years. The highest you can go is Step 10. Also, if you get promoted to a higher GS level, they have to pay you more than you were making. For example, a GS 9 Step 10 would make more than a GS 10 Step 1, so they'd increase your Step level until you made more than GS 9 Step 10.

Hopefully that wasn't too confusing of an explanation. Here's an official explanation from OPM:

https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/pay-systems/general-schedule/

Yeah that makes sense. I'll pass those links on to her. I believe this job would be a lower GS level from what I recall her saying. She doesn't quite qualify for the next level due to not having a Bachelors degree unfortunately.

I work for a DoD agency and it's a pretty good job. The benefits are good, and the pay isn't terrible either.

Regarding the firing thing, it is harder to get rid of federal employees for most things. There's a few things they can throw you out for instantly, like failing a drug test, but most of the time they have to give you about 6 months to improve your performance.

Keep in mind Congress has been trying to take steps to make it easier to fire us, and have been trying to make our retirement benefits not as good as they have been. For example, there's been talk about them changing our retirement annuities to use the average of our last 5 years of service instead of the last 3 like it has been. That will reduce most people's annuity by a little, but it's not like it will break the bank for you. Also, the annual raises have been pretty low (1 or 2%) the 3 years I've been here.

Besides the potential of Congress making the job a little less sweet, I'd say it's worth it. The TSP is a great 401K with low fees, and there's a lot of different healthcare plans available to you. Also, if you work 10 years as a civil servant you can get your federal college loans forgiven if you're still paying on them.

I have read about this. I guess it's not necessarily a bad thing if it'll help get rid of the bad apples.

This is for my wife btw. Her current place of employment is pretty good so she has a lot to lose if she were to go somewhere that ended up being less than desirable.

Prey 2 - I thought Human Heads vision of the game looked pretty great and I enjoyed the first game. I wasn't too happy with the direction that the reboot took.

Silent Hills - I was excited that Del Toro was involved with this. This could have really sky rocketed the series in terms of popularity.

Star Wars Battlefront 3 - The original SW:BF games were fantastic and it was even more exciting that Free Radical was at the helm of this.

Fallout Online - I was less excited about it being an MMO but more excited about it being done by the original creators of Fallout. That alone would've made the game worth at least trying.

B.C. - I couldn't help be be somewhat excited for anything Peter Molyneux and Lionhead had planned. B.C. genuinely sounded like a good game with a lot of great ideas.

StarCraft: Ghost - I was more excited about the fact that Swingin Ape Studios was developing this. I was eager to play another one of their games after having loved Metal Arms. This was another Duke Nukem Forever situation though and I was curious to see how it would've turned out in the end.

I never had to cashier when I worked at Sears but I did maintain the sales floor and dressing rooms.

-My biggest pet peeve would be when I'm in the process of cleaning up a messy table and a customer would come up right next to me and screw up the pile of clothes that I obviously just fixed. The proper etiquette would be to ask me if I noticed a certain size while straightening, which a lot of people would do.

-We would sometimes close our registers in the men's department during the week when it wasn't busy. We put up signs in front of both registers informing the customer to check out in the tools department. It never failed that the customer would just stand up at the register waiting for someone to come over and check them out. I know it's a dick move but I would just watch them and see how long they would stay there before figuring out that the register was closed.

-Customers knocking on the doors before opening even though there is still 10 minutes left. Customers walking in a minute before we are due to close. Customers still shopping and walking around aimlessly even after the 5th closing announcement.

-People who would drive an hour or more because the online site said we had it in stock and then cause a scene when it was actually out of stock when they arrived. If you're driving that far for something then wouldn't you confirm with the store that it's actually in stock and also ask if it could be held?

I'm more worried about the durability and longevity of the vehicle. The Model 3 has appealed to me since it was first announced, but I feel that it's still a tad too early to jump on.

I also live in a town home right now. How exactly would I charge this thing if I can't buy home charger and there aren't any Superchargers near me?

Because they don't own the rights to the movie itself.

Then why not just sell them to Disney for a few bucks since they seem useless to them? They could buy a few orders of chicken nuggies with dat $$$.
