I need to see Moana and Zootopia still. Think those are the last two Disney animated canon movies I haven't seen. My 4 year old niece was watching a Moana song on my phone and it seems pretty great. It's that You're Welcome song and the guy doing the character is The Rock so he probably is the best by default lol

Moana is solid if unremarkable, Zootopia is great. Definitely give both a watch when you can.

I agree with this assessment. Moana had some good music and visuals, but lacked something in the story for me. Zootopia was great all around.

Thanks MI and gravy for hosting this by the way. I go months without visiting this board and just happen to stumble upon the contest as it was getting starting. We'll see if I have the same luck next year, as I will likely be leaving the board again for a while unless I feel like staying for smff.

If I would air one grievance to the hosting, it would be MI's late plea for Aladdin in the final four when the vote was tied at 18 all. I know this sounds biased coming from a Mickey fan, but I felt like it went a little over the line, making it uncomfortable for someone to vote Mickey after that. It was beyond a rally post; it was a sincere plea "from the host." The round was over shortly after, and it probably didn't decide the final result. But it was an inappropriate use of host power IMO.

I do remember that rule from Brett now that Doc mentioned it, but I don't think it would've been appropriate. Extra time is probably the only fair way to break a tie rather than discounting votes.

It seemed like a Punz win was inevitable down the stretch of this contest, and sure enough that held true. Though it ended up being closer than I imagined.

As a fan of Renaissance and prior characters, I feel like continued disappointment in this contest will be an ongoing expectation. There are just too many people on this board who like the more modern stuff.

I think you should have actually put FINAL in the subject heading though. I know some contests like putting marquee matchups in their subject lines as a teaser, not necessarily indicative of a final.

the difference here really was how Mickey voters leaned heavily toward aladdin, while last year you didn't see the same thing happen when the roles were reversed. In this odd entanglement Mickey and Aladdin have had over the past few contests, it's become evident that while Mickey supporters are also very fond of Aladdin, the same isn't necessarily true of Aladdin supporters. At least generally speaking.

Gravy - Aladdin will always be an obstacle in Mickey's path. The best way to effectively remove him as an obstacle is to get him a victory (as repeat winners are not a popular thing in this contest). Plus, Aladdin is a very awesome character from the Renaissance period, which is still better than any period that followed it.

woah, woah, woah, I didn't say Nick didn't deserve to be in the top 10. I just don't want to see him in the finals based on who's left. That's all I was saying. Obviously it was just my opinion. It's quite clear that this will be a battle between Aladdin and Nick for a spot in the finals. Looking back, that earlier post was a bit frank and looks somewhat rude in retrospect, so i apologize.

Final comments on Mickey...

Glad we got him to consecutive top 5 finishes, but I worry that getting him over that hump and into a final may be difficult as he just has a lot of haters for some reason. What makes it harder is that he appears not to be liked by the furry group (ermine's faction), which makes no sense to me since Mickey is a cute mouse, but apparently they only like modern anthropomorphic animal characters I guess. I will continue to support Mickey next year along with my other favs. The classic champion trifecta needs to happen eventually!
