Most people don't like it because they want a straightforward action game like 3 and 4 but it's an incredible atmospheric game despite the technical flaws.

This guy knows what's up. Plot is also amazing and imbues something you'll take with you.
It'll be hard to go back to 2 after 3 and 4, so don't skip it.
Just avoid Primal tbh

No record scratch sound effects? Jet Set is letting me down. The percussion makes up for it. In a game with as much punk funk, you gotta stir up attitude. I think the people cheering aids there.

1 - Featuring Bomberman from the Bomberman series? The percussion/bass, if you can call it that, really sets in a carnival vibe. Of course this corresponds with the atmosphere of the game.

2 - I've never seen the cover art for this game before. I find it hilarious. Friendly for sure. Not something I would want to hear again, however.

3 - Now this intrigues me because the cohesion is almost non-existent. The guitar is just out there doing it's own thing, squealing ridiculously high. And not that it matters, but the background support just goes AWOL at 1:32. I love it! The guitar, still, is just out there doing what it pleases! And then at 2:35, there goes the other strings? What is this song

(This plays at a point in the game where maximum sadness happens. Y'know, just in case you don't wanna soundtrack spoil yourself.)

Track 1 - HOO WEE are we a big fan of the whammy or what. It's overused IMO. It's not bad for second duration intervals. But I'd hope it doesn't play as long as the youtube video does. I literally can not hear anything else over that damn guitar.

Track 2 - This does sound pretty sad.

Track 3 - This sounds like a boss fight theme but also even staff roll based on the softer opening. Okay. It's played a little bit more and I'm siding more with a battle theme than credits.

Kircheis posted...
This was going to be an empty bump, but those piss me off so have some more VGM to rate.

Track 1 - See, I miss this. I'm playing Berseria right now and I'm so sick of drum rolls and guitar thrashes. Good theme but what's nice is that it uses soft instruments to display the discrepancy of minor battles compared to the bigger ones.

Track 2 - The Pursuit and Cornered themes have to be my favorite. They take something as dull as a court trial and amp up the player so that he's presenting evidence and pointing out contradictions like his life depends on it. And in the sixth game it does

Track 3 - Foremost, what the fuck is Pokemon Conquest I have never heard of this title but upon a google search there's a man with a beard on the cover art what is going on here

Reminds me a lot of Koji Kondo's work on Wind Waker. With "Conquest" in the title, I 100% expect this.

Track 1 - I'm torn between a desert setting such as the wild west or Sahara. But then there's title 'Call from Sea.' So it's like can i get uhhhhhhh explanation. It's calm, though, fits the chick in the thumbnail.

I like it a lot. It's a great remix. It's fast, though, which is unusual for credits. However, it makes sense here. One, you're gonna be seeing the credits a lot so it's not meant to be huge orchestral movement. And for two, it doesn't take much to achieve.

Track 1 actually sounds a little mellow for Contra IMO. I'd almost think it to be a stealth section.

Track 2 has good a beat. It livens up the Mega mood. I like it.

Track 3 - Never played since don't like MMO's. But it's clearly a remix of the Lucifer battle theme. I... prefer the original. This is too airy in spots.

1 - Conclusive use of guitar. Sounds very final.
2 - Very house. And kind of electrobeat. I honestly thought after the first song it was going to be a bunch of extreme guitar orchestra combos. I like this a lot.
3 - So in most cases, I would argue that a crazy fast theme like the first one is too extreme. This game is a bullet hell shooter, and so a track like this would hopefully have higher pace to match the action. It's a vice-versa case.
4 - Bass is killer and drums are doing a good job rivaling. 5 videos is a lot to post and rate, but at least you're jumping genres with each. I like the heaviness of the tone.
5 - This vaguely reminds me of something you'd hear from David Wise in DKC, but plenty more in depth. The reason for this deception is easily the bells. The warping instrument in the background is also pretty neat.

Track 1 - Persona 1's tracks, aside from this, Bloody Destiny and fucking Dream of Butterfly, aren't quite my favorite. But god damn I love this theme; it is literally impossible to not sing along to once you learn the lyrics. Extremely catchy.

Track 2 - It's battle! But it's hush hush battle! Not bad at all. I feel like the strings in the back, which I believe to be violins, are what's keeping me feeling like I need to be very quiet.

Track 3 - I like it, but it's pretty upbeat. Good thing it doesn't play in game. The regular version is way more chill and fits lounging out late at the house with Nanako.

Track 4 - Shit, dude. The F-Zero X OST comes on all the time when I'm driving and it's so dangerous. Does the guitar go as high as my speedometer? Hell yeah it does. Just the irony in the title does it for me with this one. Also would be a great addition to Smash.

(Exploring the mansion as Alex)

(Maximillian's theme)

Track 1 - I played the whole track waiting for something more than a bass drum to happen. This type of music is simple and good as an exploration track since it leaves so much room for interpretation. You might find it unnerving- which is totally a goal for the game, but it could be docile as well. That is until those weird voices came in. At that point, it pretty much solidified itself as a scary song. Also, really cool that the drum sounds very similar to the thunder. Auditory symbolism: even safe-sounding things can foreshadow disaster.

Track 2 - Bell sound effects are a little tacky so there better be an actual clock tower or giant bell in this game somewhere. The actual track isn't bad; sitar use is very reminiscent of tombs and ancient temples.

Track 1 - A boss theme with emotional undertones. Did I guess right?
Track 2 - Nice. It's higher up than a normal enemy theme but not quite boss theme (but it's probably just a regular enemy theme.) I especially love the bells.
Track 3 - How ominous. The beginning is a mix of calm and frightening feelings, but also like a resolution/ peace of mind. When the harp rolls in, it gives the song a structure and drum line, but it still ends very vague. I really love it, though.

Track 1 - Yeah, it sounds like Square for sure. Classic SNES RPG music. But I'd say it fits more along the lines of FF/Chrono Trigger than it does LaL.
Track 2 - This is another game I want to play. I'm not even really into horror but I've heard so many unique things about this game. Love me a good exquisite Gamecube title. This sounds more like a combat or trial theme, however- not really for exploration. I wish I had a better reason for that hypothesis other than "It doesn't sound scary" but that's all I have.
Track 3 - Now this sounds scarier than the track above because the daunting-as-hell piano. The flute is just coming in. And the strings. So it now it sounds more open. I like it.

Track 2: The horns at the beginning almost made me feel like I was going on a gameshow. It carves itself out after. It's not very strong to correspond with the "Climatic Battle." It sounds like a battle theme, yes, but with not all too much happening.

Track 2 - Good vocals. Piano plays on a line between welcoming and foreboding. Starts to get wildly creepy when the piano soars off on its own towards the end of the loop. I really, really love this.
Track 3 - My, we definitely have an intense boss theme in our hands now. Guitar sounds on point in the solo.
Track 4 - Strings pulling the front are the amazing. I'd vastly prefer this type of battle theme compared to the one above although I guess it does matter on circumstance and enemy. This one takes you on a journey, though, and is much more heartfelt.

I've brought this up before but Meguro is a genius when producing music for each Megami Tensei. Nocturne and Devil Survivor, for example, exhibit lots of metal but it fits the post-apocalyptic, barbaric scene of the games. Persona 5, opposed, has the jazz, soul, R&B funk and glam rock vibes that still totally fit it. In another corner, there's Strange Journey that has tribal, ritualistic jams. And lastly, SMT IV OST with the 80's inspired, retro synth tracks. Master of all, he is.

Good driving music for Los Santos. Very vanilla for what this game has to offer, though.

Great tune. Love that we can start a battle theme with a soft piano and drive it up with some guitar. A bit of an emotional ride, but that's Persona 3 in a sentence.

There is no title more accurate. Earthbound, but sometimes Mother 3, is my favorite game of all time (they're constantly balancing out with what I have going on in life.) The meaning behind the song has changed a lot for me over the years. When I first heard the tune, it was concluding one of the greatest experiences of my life. Remixing the sound stone melody, the game takes you audibly to all the places you've visited with your friends and what you've gained from each. It helps that the credit has all the pictures from the camera man.

But the "I miss you" in the very last section never made sense to me. I heard many theories: how some thought it was Ness missing his teammates, or how it was Ness's Dad talking to his son, or even, wildly, the game itself expressing that it was going to miss the player. I liked the last claim so I went with it but not until exactly 2 years ago did I finally start connecting the dots behind the phrase. If you're acquainted the legend, Earthbound faced substantial development difficulty that was going to delay the game a long time. At this point, Satoru Iwata stepped into take over direction and they were able to release the game with relative ease. I personally believe that the "I miss you" was dedicated from the dev team to Iwata, post-release. In July of 2015, Earthbound would reveal its greatest 4th wall break, yet. It's now the fanbase saying I miss you to Iwata in the credits. And that we miss the gallant characters and lands he introduced us to like with Earthbound. In '95, he gave us all smiles. 20 years later, we're in tears.

He was the fucking dude.

Track 2 - I'm not a metal fan but I love me an electric guitar.
Track 3 - Changing it up with some strings are we? Doesn't really feel sad or emotional, though. It has more of a "quiet" vibe to it if you understand. Like you're in a forest village or something of the sort.
Track 4 - Finales and confrontations. Good. But it might be better with some lyrics. The guitar is crying for a vocal partner.

Track 1: A combination of hype and nostalgia. Remember when people were losing their minds over 7th gen, HD Sandbox games like this one? Before we had a boat load of garbage remainders in between the announcement of the the 8th gen consoles and their actual releases. When I hear this tune, I'm overloaded with hype.
Track 2: Practically identical with the above. I think Soule wanted to aid the developers in offering the very best things Skyrim had to offer in its beginning moments. The world exposed to you with this music grants a euphoric wanderlust.
Track 3: Unexpectedly soft and melancholic for "Ace Combat." I'm assuming this is either ending/credits music. Beautiful piano.

Track 1 - Caught me by surprise in the ambiance and synchronized chorus. I like it.
Track 2 - I think I struggled with this guy more than Prime and the AU. But the boss music fits. Very urgent sounding. Lots of drums and synthesized sounds going on. The usual Metroid music.
Track 3 - The bass stands out here. Still impressive in 2017. I like it.

Track 2: General consensus is that DKC3's OST is garbage compared to 1 & 2. And I think tracks like this is why. It sounds like they just dropped random sound effects over a guitar rift and percussion line. Also not really a fan

Medal of Honor - Attack on Fort Schmerzen

Sounds like a highly anticipated trailer for a film which definitely matches with the military style game. What I like about this over newer stuff like CoD is that they stick with orchestra which was suitable in the era rather than heavy metal, dubstep and even trap music (wtf?) Battlefield 1 is another notable example of this.

track 2 - Conversely, this is eerie as Hell- which is also a very bad analogy. Not sure if I'm supposed to feel sad or scared from this. Or just calm. I wouldn't normally expect this from Pokemon.

Not even surprised you posted this. Sega racing game soundtracks are lit. Daytona USA and Sonic R are fantastic and this just has the catchy, suburban, sunny day melody attached to it. Put me in a '98 Volvo V70 and let's check out Chicago. I love it, and am saving to playlist.

The lyrics are also oddly applicable to my life at this current time.

Track 1 - See when racing games have soundtracks, this is more along the lines of what I would expect. Of course, it is Rockstar. So they never fail musically.
Track 2 - I knew what it was before I clicked the video. Loved this when I first heard it because it was the first time we needed to help Midna in serious, immediate jeopardy. The tone is soft, simple but urgent and foreboding. It's the only time it plays in the game, too, so it shows the exclusive nature of the objective. I learned to play this on piano, it's actually quite easy.

This song made me wish more of the game's songs were in Japanese or they found a different singer for the English songs. I literally could only understand about 5 words in the Casino level's music which was sung in English.

A good way to end the game, and much like the game itself: starting soft and then maximizing just out of nowhere. Then playing on a cycle. I think Meguro is a master when it comes to Credit Rolls. Nocturne's and Devil Survivor 2's are also stellar.

I agree about the Casino, but Last Surpise/Beneath the Mask/Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There all have very identifiable lyrics.

Okay this is a lot. They all sound pretty similar because they're all works by my dude Motoi Sakuraba who, as aforementioned, I love for his work on Tales/Golden Sun/Baten Kaitos. All extremely JRPGish, I do agree the orchestra is stunning.

Track 1:
I can't really tell what the vocalist is going for here and it bothers me. Instrumentally, everything is proceeding well. But the childish singer's tone at the beginning sounds more conversational than singing. Post-crescendo, there's a lot more auto tune being used and it sounds like they added it on long after composition they way he (she?) tries to match up with the band. I think this track might just be better going without. Or, and I would never say this, it might sound better with Japanese lyrics.
Track 2:
Redeeming. This singer puts a target on the table and smashes it through. But the real prize here is the electric guitar. Just when it sounds like the song is ending, the solo cries to carry on one final verse. Much more enjoyable and set for this type of game.

Caught me by surprise. What is that opening up? A cello or a violin? Whatever stringed instrument it may be, I judged it was going to be Japanese lyrics and orchestra based on the picture. And it's nice to be reminded that you're a dick for judging anything. I listened to both loops of the song and really enjoyed it. I'm gonna assume it's battle or dungeon music, since the score takes you through all the phases of what feels problematic. The strings introduce us to the conflict, then follow with facing it, and finally when all the instruments flatten out and add vocals, we get a resolute noise.

Gafemage posted...

With a name + boxart as haunting as "Splatterhouse," an audience might tend to forget what they're getting themselves into. While the game itself is a bit scarier than your average platformer/beat-em-up, it's certainly no Resident Evil. And this tune reinforces that. To be honest, the fact that there's any music reinforces that since most horror games just have ambient winds and sound effects. But this juvenile tune reminds you that it is indeed a game that you can win, with no significant loss if not. I don't feel strongly about it.

Based on the title and image, this is a visual novel right? They get put under the bus quite a bit, but some of them can show some deep and astonishing levels of fictional but humanistic character. I can see this playing either during a sad conversation- be it dark details about someone's past, or with no hope for the future, or when death is occurring. It's provocative for a sad song, but I don't especially enjoy it.

David Wise is a fucking wizard when it comes to tracks like Aquatic Ambiance, Stickerbrush Symphony, Enchanted Wood, etc. His music helps to make the trilogy more than just platformers. It's not all about the action and violence, you have to appreciate everything that developers put into the game. I truly believe DKC was the pioneer to when platformers started to get noticed for visuals, aesthetics, atmosphere and all fine elements. And David Wise played a key role. Aquatic Ambiance made those damn, dreadful water levels have something to look forward to. It didn't matter how many times I got my ass kicked so long as I got to hear the song. So it will always hold a special place in my heart.

Track 2 is interesting one if I am indeed being told the truth that it is for the Gameboy. After the long intro, I was surprised to see it assemble itself to go above and beyond typical limits for the system. And if you've been reading, you know I'm not that into metal. Very nicely done.

Persona 5 OST 100 - Rivers In the Desert

One thing Meguro does exceptionally well in Persona 5 is hype you up with the music. It plays into the overall magical immersion that the franchise does so well. The first time I heard "Life Will Change," I was so ready to beat the fucking shit out of Kamoshida. While I like this is as a final boss theme and it does a great job helping me feel the character's resolve, nothing can top "The Almighty" and "The Genesis." This is partially due to vocals, which IMO take away from the severity of a final boss in tone.
