Found true love. Yeah, that sounds corny, but that's what it is.

Met her through my mom. She's conservative, independent, and best of all, extremely doting and affectionate. Face is a 9/10, body is a 7.5/10 (she could stand to gain 10 pounds).

She's 23 and was a virgin (still had her hymen), and never masturbated before. We're crazy about each other and already talking about getting much more serious.

I've never felt so loved and am wondering what I did to deserve someone like her.

TopicWho pathed the way for mass European colonization of the Americas?
qyll3
08/22/17 12:50:22 AM
#58
Several things had to happen for European colonization. Remember that the first and foremost reason for sailing West was to find a way to the Spice Islands, which is in modern day Indonesia. The markup from importing spice into Europe by Arab traders was the impetus to find an alternate route. So maybe you could say that the Arab traders paved the way for mass colonization.

OK, but that was the spark. What kept the fire going? A bunch of things, but most important are trade goods and religion. If you had to bet on who would reach the Americas first, the odds on favorite must have been Ming China. Zheng He even reached all the west to East Africa in the early 15th century, but China never thought about colonization because a) they were happy being the big dog in East Asia, b) they practiced mostly Confucianism, which was not as wont to spread as Christianity. Yet we all know what happened once the French, Dutch, Portuguese, and English got their hands on Africa. So maybe Jesus was the drive for mass colonization, who knows.

Also, Columbus might have paved the way for mass colonization for Spain, but you could equally argue that Cabral paved the way for Portugal or Hudson did it for England.

He deserves an impartial lawyer. Can people not understand that if you deny him that privilege you're only taking those same rights away from yourselves? What if one day in the future you or a loved one needs a lawyer and the only one available has a conflict of interest? Would you not ask for an impartial one? Then why would you deny him the same right?

qyll3

Disclaimer: I support gay marriage.

When it all comes down to it, people dislike gay marriage because it's icky. OK, well a similar logic can be applied to incestuous relationships. Yet, neither affects you. But same sex marriage is legal and incestuous marriage is not.

For the sake of this argument, let's say that the same sex marriage is between two brothers. So we have gay incestuous marriage, ho boy. Both are consenting adults, and whatever they do they keep to their bedrooms. Why is the first part legal and the second part illegal?

You can apply a similar logic to something like bestiality. Is it something about the ickiness factor where you've crossed a line, therefore it's illegal?

Uhhh, yeah. Bad idea. Don't buy bitcoin if you don't understand it. It's too risky. The rising price looks nice until you realize it has just as much potential to come crashing down. Better to buy a stock index or a mutual fund.

Although I assume you're young, so some high-risk buys and losses could be healthy in teaching you a few lessons.

Literally why would you care?

p-value cutoffs affect significance of findings, which in turn affect chances of being published in reputable journals, which in turn affect career prospects. So shifting the cutoff would substantively affect millions of researchers around the world (including myself).

Fisher never intended for the p-value to be used as a hard cutoff for meaningful findings but as one aspect to be considering among a bunch of other factors. It's too bad that that's what it's become.

TopicIs Generation Z pretty much just an amplified version of millennials?
qyll3
06/29/17 11:07:24 AM
#38
First of all, you have to define what Generation Z is, and not everyone agrees with that. And then you have to define what conservative is, and holy hell you know that not everyone agrees with that either.

I did a bit of research and all I can conclude is that it's too early to tell. Most surveys use an 18 - 29 age group as their youngest category, which means people born between 2000 and 1988, which includes mostly Millennials.

There are no great sources for this, but I found a few OK ones:

http://www.gallup.com/poll/172439/party-identification-varies-widely-across-age-spectrum.aspx

-This survey was done in 2014 and stratifies respondents by age in years rather than categories. It's well-known that people tend to become more conservative as they grow older, but look at the dark green line all the way on the left. You would expect the youngest respondents to be the highest % democrat, but it appears to be trending downward. This isn't necessarily evidence that Gen Z is more conservative, but it does suggest they aren't more liberal than the Millennials.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election,_2016

-In the 18-24 age group, it was 56-35 Clinton Trump and the overall popular vote was 48-46 Clinton Trump, giving a +19% Democrat difference in that age group compared to the general populace.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election,_2012

-In the 18-24 age group, it was 60-36 Obama-Romney and the overall popular vote was 51-47 Obama Romney, giving a +20% Democrat difference in that age group compared to the general populace.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election,_2008

-In the 18-24 age group, it was 66-32 Obama-McCain and the overall popular vote was 53-46 Obama McCain, giving a +27% Democrat difference in that age group compared to the general populace.

So, as you can see, as you roll further back in time, the 18-24 age group voted more Democrat relative to the general population. Inversely, as you roll forward in time, the 18-24 age group voted more Republican.

Another piece of good evidence that Gen Z is not any more liberal than the Millennial and that they may even be more conservative.
