no but any build that narrowly focused on nodes and notables related to its primary skillset will at least finish cruel with only moderate difficulty

Then that's my point. There is more build variety at the outset, but on a competitive level very few builds remain. Diablo 3 has probably a higher variety of successful endgame builds than PoE at this point.

Path of Exile has much better build customization (but the build variety ends up being pretty similar to D3 anyway)
