I think it's because the topic title set up this topic to be about bad argument techniques that people around you use, but it really seems like you just wanted to rant about food waste.

i provided one sentence's worth of backstory for context

and then two short lines of dialogue

... oh god, you're right, didn't realize how brimming i was with the need to rant looking back at it now

Anyway why would he give his leftovers to a homeless person? If he's done, he's done, and I recommend you get over it.

Also out of pure curiosity, do you regularly give leftovers to homeless people?

uh, cause it's a waste of perfectly good food?

and not usually, no, since i finish my plates

but on the rare occasions that i don't, then yes, i have left my doggie bags next to sleeping homeless dudes or on benches or wherever

just thinking that food shouldn't be wasted and bringing it up to a friend?

That's not even what he means. If he's full, he shouldn't finish it. It's bad for him. He loses the same money on the food regardless. Just in one instance, he overate.

uh, no, it's not "bad for him" to finish his plate, nor is it a "one instance" thing since he does this all of the time

it's not even about the money, either

it's more that he should know better considering his background and not take things for granted

and even if he really couldn't finish it, we're in san francisco where there are plenty of homeless to give your leftovers to as opposed to throwing it out

but if thinking like this makes me a "fun" person, then w/e

like, my friend wastes a lot of food (regularly leaves plates unfinished, buys bottles of coke only to drink a third or two of it before throwing it into the garbage, etc.), and it frustrates me cause we both come from poor households and we only ever hang out in san francisco (so the least he could do is give his leftovers to a homeless person or whatever)

anyway, it'll go like:

-

(at dinner)

me: dude, you're really gonna waste all of that?

you think it's unrealistic that they legitimately run out of food?

how many people do you think are in a 2+ hour line

They could always buy more food. Wonder why they don't.

for real if they are THAT popular why turn money away by not ordering more food? if they can make MORE money due to their popularity based on how good their food is, why not order more and collect more money?

how simple-minded are you guys?

you think restaurants have an infinite amount of storage space or something?

if you guys know anything about good food, it's that it's always fresh-made

and if it's fresh-made, then time is obviously a factor too

if they order more than they can cook to their standards (of which i'm assuming are high, considering that they command 2+ hour lines daily), then they're compromising both their integrity and reputation

it's why a chain like in-n-out hasn't expanded despite their gross popularity, for example - they'd be farther away from their sources of beef, which would lead to longer times in transport, which in turn would compromise the quality of their burgers (you know, that thing that makes them popular to begin with?)

as hard as it might be for needlessly cynical and/or naive cemen to believe, not everything is about money

Drivers in theory get paid the same price for Pool rides as UberX

In theory meaning that if they only picked you up and picked up no one else

Otherwise drivers are making more rides while earning the same amount as they would if they only took one person, but with Uber taking the same fees for both, it's a lose/win/win for the driver/pax/Uber

for reference, flat fare packages lock in $6.99 uberx rides

but i guess what i was asking was, are my drivers actually losing money driving me?

like i said, it only costs me $3 to get from where i live to my work in the city (30~40+ minute drive), so assuming they don't see any of that package money, then i'm p sure they're losing money (hence my guilt)

so we have flat fares as an option here in the San Francisco Bay Area and i use that (last package i got was $40 to lock down $2.99 pool rides for 28 days)

i use this to get to work (it's both cheaper and more convenient than public transport) from the suburbs into san francisco and it takes like 30+ minutes each way

anyway, does the driver only make that flat fare rate (or less)? or does some of that $40 i paid get pooled and distributed?

i always feel super guilty when i do this, but i can't help myself

it's just way more convenient than having to walk to different stops and stations, then waiting, and then getting into dirty buses/trains that'll take way longer to only get to near where i need to go

conversely, if i told you that somebody like selena gomez or whoever else is only actually 17, would you magically and suddenly lose all sense of what makes them attractive despite what you thought of them before i told you?

it's just like how people don't think they're racist - it's all just appeasement to political correctness and their own infallibility complex-driven egos
