| Topic | Is it natural to grow out of having a favorite color? |
| Gaawa_chan 08/15/22 9:30:37 AM #32 | I like greens the most, but I think the real issue is that colors are best enjoyed when playing off of each other. A favorite color is nice and all, but color combinations are just better, I think, and oddly as a result, most of my favorite artworks do not feature my favorite colors prominently very often. Like... the only art print I own is one of Van Gogh's Mulberry Tree, and while there is some green in it, the piece is largely yellow/orange and blue. --- Hi |

| Gaawa_chan 08/15/22 9:08:39 AM #39 | If you cannot provide empirical evidence to support your assertions, I am not going to waste my limited time entertaining them. Even if anyone ceded the argument that there may be a deity or deities, that does not at all support any specific religion. "My religion explains things!" Every religion explains things. "My religion makes people better with its rules!" Every religion claims to do this. "My religion predicts things!" Most religions also do that, too. Provide me actual evidence or stop wasting my time. You know what's arrogant? Thinking that of all the sets of beliefs in the world throughout human history, the one you happen to follow is both some sort of immutable truth and inherently morally superior to all others, and that your particular interpretation of your particular religion oh so conveniently supports your socio-political positions. --- Hi |

| Topic | I just got 101% in Donkey Kong 64 for the first time ever |
| Gaawa_chan 08/15/22 8:49:05 AM #12 | The races are easily my least favorite part of that game. They seem to require quite a bit of luck as well as (imo) an almost ridiculous amount of precision for a game that was clearly aimed at younger players. I have chronic hand pain and slow reflexes so I don't think I was able to win any of the slide races or the rabbit one. I *think* I beat the owl? Can't remember. I've actually played that game a lot, though. It is WAY too repetitive, but there's something almost meditative about it when it's at its best. I feel the same way about Super Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild, actually, though both of those are without question better games than DK64. Come to think of it, a lot of the game's problems would be solved by making it like... split-screen co-op, so two players could play as different kongs and go after different parts of an area at the same time. --- Hi |

| Topic | GameTok with Lok: What's your favourite mechanic from a unappreciated game? |
| Gaawa_chan 08/11/22 12:20:01 AM #48 | A party that must travel in at least two groups + limited inventory + unique character skills + permanent party member death, so that if a character dies, the others must sacrifice inventory space to carry an item that can perform that unique ability. I am talking about the meshing of mechanics of the NES game Sweet Home, which is imo one of the best aged rpgs on the NES. Lokarin posted... Personally, I don't think the double tech system from Chrono Trigger has been used enough... maybe ONE other game uses itRogue Galaxy had a variation on this, as did Final Fantasy IV: After Years (blegh). Black_Crusher posted... I like how in NES Legacy of the Wizard enemy drops are tailored to what you need more of.I was just thinking about Legacy of the Wizard for this topic as well. The ability to choose different characters to tackle a sort of pseudo open world-ish/metroidvania-ish dungeon is not really something I've seen in another game. Sad. :( . Oh, a small example of something I wish more games had is limited multiplayer in adventure/rpg games. Mostly I'm thinking about Super Mario Galaxy, where a second person could control a cursor+the luma friend. It means that if someone is watching you play the game, they can still play but without needing to put in as much skill or effort. I think it's a great mechanic not just if you have a kid around, but if you are trading off who is the main player based upon how up for play they are. It allows people who are mostly just observing to actively participate a bit in play. I like it a lot. --- Hi |

| Gaawa_chan 08/09/22 11:45:54 PM #24 | Corporations engaging in "wokeness" is just a byproduct of capitalism. Anti-wokers need to grow the fuck up; if you don't think a product appeals to you for reasons as shallow as "it has a woman main character" "it has a poc supporting character" "it has a gay/trans background character," don't buy it. Creators are under no obligation to exclusively make products that only appeal to whiny bigots. adjl posted... It's not even necessarily a misogyny thing. | Topic | Xenoblade Chronicles 3 comes out next week...are you getting it? |
| Gaawa_chan 08/01/22 1:34:06 AM #54 | I've played all the Xenoblade games so far and enjoyed each of them despite their flaws. I did get 3 and am a couple hours in. The pacing in this one is absolutely atrocious to the point where I feel like I've sat through 2 movies already, and the game keeps putting up invisible walls to keep me on rails, but I am just starting so hopefully that problem does not continue. Other than that it seems like a marked improvement from XC2, and I think the characters so far have solid foundations to make the story good. Gameplay seems fine, too, and they've added more layers to enemy mechanics and combos, which is inarguably good (I still miss being able to change enemies by targeting limbs like in XCX, but alas). We'll see. Edit: Btw, by all accounts overleveling in XC3 is very ill-advised. It causes other things to become much more grindy until you reach NG+ and can de-level the characters, so if you do get the game, try to avoid overleveling. :( Entity13 posted... Whereas so much of the first game was, "Are there machines? If yes, waste time on the one ability so everyone else can do basically anythingLiterally over half the party has all or most of their important attacks pierce all that anyway (Shulk, Melia, Riki, Seven). your face gets pounded by the mobs because neither tank can take aggro.I didn't even use the tanks most of the time in XC1, tbh. NGL, XC1 has problems but your complaints are pretty weak. If you don't want to use the mechon weapons or Enchant, you don't have to; just use the other options given to you. shipwreckers posted... I know some people hated it, but I REALLY wish they'd do a remaster ("definitive edition") of Xenoblade Chronicles X. Somehow that "filler" was bearable to me (at least more than the BLATANT time-gating filler in Torna). XCX's biggest crime was that it released on a doomed console. (The western censorship didn't help XCX either.) But, I think it would look and play phenomenally on a Switch! That absolutely was not the weakest part of XCX. X is my favorite of the -blade games that I've finished, but its story is absolute trash because it's not complete. And I don't mean in a "we had to really rush the late-game story content so it's poorly paced." I mean that it's actually fucking incomplete. It literally ends on "There's something about this planet." Cool, you gonna let us find out what that is? No? Not even in optional post-game content? Great. :-/ Game needs a ton of QoL features (especially audio sliders, a faster way to change party members, and maybe making the text bigger because I had a hell of a time reading large chunks of the menu settings) but that's basically a given with any proper remake, one would hope. --- Hi |

| Topic | Who is the best healer in video games? |
| Gaawa_chan 07/23/22 10:21:45 PM #23 | Gameplay-wise? Probably one of the Tales of healers, some of them are just monstrously efficient and kitted out to completely wreck everything. Estelle from Vesperia and Elize from Xillia and Marta from Symphonia 2 immediately spring to mind; they can spam full-heals incredibly fast with very little cost and they are also good combatants in general so when they don't need to use support, they can thrash the enemies. For pure healing, Elize is faster, but Estelle has a more diverse kit and is significantly tankier which is a great attribute for a healer to have. Serena from Act 2 of Dragon Quest XI is an excellent healer, as is Rosa in the DS version of FFIV provided you augment her properly, but there's no auto-revive spell in FFIV so that holds her back a bit. --- Hi |

| Topic | Do you wear jewelry? |
| Gaawa_chan 07/21/22 7:05:54 AM #8 | I wear jewelry sometimes, none of it particularly expensive (I don't blow shit-loads of money on non-functional things, especially not things that are easily stolen), mostly pendants, and most of them were gifts. If you want a rough run-down: The most recent pieces are glass pendants with painted insects inside from Etsy (Edit: SelflessAxe was the shop). Got a couple of dragons and dragon claws, a medallion of the phylogenetic tree of life, a blue+purple glass lizard, an hourglass, a silver pyramid and a silver piece with my name inscribed on it from one of my uncles... I have two ammonite pendants (one is pyritized)... one of my sisters made me a hemp piece with a single glass chunk that creates an optical illusion. I have a little glass owl, but I don't wear him because he was a present from my aunt who died and I don't want to break him. I have a little bat with a body of stone and wings+head of leather and googly eyes, lol. I have a little playable clay ocarina with an owl carved into it, which is appropriate because if you play it right it can sound like a little hooting owl- gift from my father. I have some bracelets and earrings, but I prefer to wear long sleeves and I like my hair loose and earrings always snag on my hair, so I don't really wear those anymore. Weirdest one is probably a chunky bracelet made of stained bones that fit in alternating triangular shapes, a present from my mother's mother. Those are all the ones worth noting design-wise, I think... actually a bit maudlin now going through the box; a lot of these are gifts from dead people. :( --- Hi |

| Gaawa_chan 07/20/22 7:02:33 PM #19 | They're okay. ST inarguably has a better OST than PH if nothing else, and they improved the controls a bit from PH to ST, though the pipes set the game back significantly in that regard. I liked the more prominent role Zelda got in ST. I also liked being able to just draw on your map; I wish more games would let you do that in addition to having stamps and such. I don't think I'd play them again without some sort of modification to their control schemes, tbh. --- Hi |
