As you noted it's impossible w/ Garik boot buuuut we could do that with the "newstats bottom 10", which I figured I'd take a look at since we differentiate top newstats characters. Also neat since it paints a very different picture from the overall, considering the need to be bad at least 4 times in a span of 11 contests.

Softboot king Reno is no surprise, 72nd and 68th place finishes in XIV and XV respectively are followed by 5 appearances over 9 contests which ended with 1 hardboot and 4 in softboot territory (2 booted, 3rd TBD). Will he add one more next year or will he be given a merciful break...?

Rude, Gabranth and Kimahri are all below Reno with 3 newstats appearances so ready to jump right down there. Marche is also in the mix for the bottom but I'm assuming nobody wants to bring that back to the contest...

I'm not seeing any of the newstats bottom 10 in the hardboots this year so in theory they could all come back buuuuuut 10 Narshe Moogles. We should nominate in the 10 Narshe Moogles.

Nobody was nominating 10 Narshe moogles (other than one great user!) so figured I'd do something productive w/ my noms

Shuyin was also in last place and moved up that much based on his finishing 40th this go-around

Oh damn I made the mistake of looking at the top placement so missed that 8/65, probably made that error in more places in the original image. But I think the newstats ones should be cleaner. Yes top 20 Quistis at a minimum imo, I'll leave that to you.

Irvine's run was contest XVII. That was Leonhart era wasn't it? We were talking about that run sometime recently but I forget if anyone in particular claimed credit for that push...

The number (and lower quality) of characters getting in before Rikku is truly hilarious.

So I instantly regretted the previously table I threw up so have now redone it to only show newstats era. 11 contests including the latest so it's a pretty relevant sample set. Same specifics as before but I've also highlighted in red those 1st places in oldstats era for relevance... also Terra gets the green shading for achieving her best newstats placement, Celes would but she's got "red" priority and not doing the whole dual-colour-in-cell thing for her.

Also ideally splitting into 2 images makes it look better

Amarant run overdue!!!

I had this idea earlier and since we were talking about character placements earlier, moved up the timetable on finishing putting this together - just a dump of each game's playable characters best placements in SMFFFC history.

-Only went numbered titles IV through XV excluding XI and XIV
-Included some spinoff playables but nothing for Revenant Wings or After Years since I don't know anything about them
-Didn't include "temp" party characters
-Did include Ardyn because he's probably the best character from XV and he was playable in his DLC so good enough

So yeah obviously missing a lot of "big" names with good contest placements but strictly just looking at real playable characters, here's what we got. The picture conversion on my game placements looked like complete garbage, man I don't want this one looking that bad (edit: ah it still looks bad, whatever)

Green shading indicates a character who attained or tied their best placement previously in this contest.

The biggest flaw in this being that it purely looks at "placement" so a good chunk of these are oldstats era placements which obscure potential garbageness, but whatever... it's at least something for now, maybe will update it for percentages some other time.

More of the usual, but 2 in the top 5 matching Vanille and Lightning from XIX, yay...

Now that being said, VII having 4 hard boots and 2 potential soft boots, surely getting that game's count down to a more more manageable number, yeah...?

At the moment VII and X are tied with 9 committed characters for next year, with VI, IX and XIV following close behind at 7. A great opportunity for nominating in 10 NARSHE MOOGLES for FFVI to regain the plurality crown for the first time since contest XX, though would need a bit more than the moogles to top the newstats plurality record of 18% for VII in contest XXII, or all-time the 22.5% for IV in the very first contest...

Been on a call since finals ended and I've expected to see some posts from certain users I haven't seen yet, I wonder if they're still coming. But anyways.

Congrats to VI and the Ramza crew for getting the win, "Yes, rich Ramza!" finally achieved! As I mentioned in Day 98 topic, this was what I thought would be the 2nd best final at the time and looks like it played out nicely with strong activity and save totals again. It's a good win but damn if it isn't bittersweet. That's it for Tactics character runs now, right? or is it Wiegraf time???

Also out 10x-ing the Aerith crew 39-30, if there's one thing I noticed since I came back the Ramza team was dedicated, fast saving, multi-trading, solid. It was a well-earned win.

That being said, definitely heartbreaking for me and I'm sure others, since it really felt like it could've gone the other way. Ramza is a great winner but he still felt to me like a character for whom a finals loss is still a "win", a great run that's a prize in itself, while Aerith could overcome last year's narrow defeat and not suffer again. I knew it'd be close despite what anyone else was musing, but stating the obvious here for anyone paying attention, I never would've expected the number of saving flips that occurred between Day 98 and the Finals.

I just can't recall the extent of anywhere near that in the 5 SMFFFC finals I've participated in thus far, the number of dedicated Aerith savers & traders who went heavy for Ramza in the finals was just such a dagger in the heart. I can't recall a block of Delita savers saving Squall, or Kefka savers saving Aerith last year. Or even Edward savers saving Lightning though maybe that's not the best analogy... maybe it happened but I just didn't realize it or wasn't paying attention. But with a 54 save loss, 3 of those users flipping could've given her the win, it's just a really tough pill to swallow. All I can hope is we're hopefully all back on the same team for the journey next year, through Day 98 and the finals.

Anyways, I want to thank a bunch of Aerith savers but I'll save that for a different post. Definitely trending back to "taking a game way too seriously" mode here, even if I only participated for like 10 days, it's like riding a bike - I can feel the weight of the 3+ months that TotallyNotMI and others put into carrying her to this point only to fall short, again.

Really I just hope we can run it back next year, I hope we can bring in more people to the cause - play the original, play the remake, she really is a wonderful character!! "Third time's the charm" run begins tonight I guess.

Oh also, I don't have any "preference ranking" stats since I wasn't around to do that properly but I've got some other contest-related stats I'll probably drop in here in the next day or two.

Yeah ideally Brotherhood style vs 2003 FMA, when I think back on Kenshin it's all about the Shishio arc for me. Sooner the remake gets there the better! And then interested in finally seeing that Enishi arc onscreen, for sure.

Also, everytime I hear an announcement about a new series or show returning with a 2023 date I think about Goblin Slayer season 2 announced January 2021 and no news since, come on...
