I haven't been watching any of the video content lately, so she might be great in those, but in terms of the podcast format, it's absolutely unbearable to the point that i stopped listening when Danny stopped appearing. I found myself physically cringing in the shower multiple times when Jeff was making a salient point about a topic and she kept cutting him off to make a Silent Hill related non-sequitor. Luckily Nextlander has filled that gap nicely

Since you're invovled with GB now, some constructive feedback from someone who was subscribed to the site since around 2012, and listening to the Bombcast before that: they really need to focus on more gaming content, and less on the "general nerd 'culture'" stuff they've been pushing. I don't think I'll ever re-subscribe to GB, as Gerstmann is the only crew member left there that I like. Also they really need to do something about Jess/voidburger, as since she's joined the Bombcast has been completely impossible to listen to as she tries to talk over everyone constantly, and doesn't usually have anything constructive to say as she apparently has only ever played the Silent Hill series.

Well that's kinda the core of half of all sports. Including hockey! Moving from one side to the other trying to score. Granted there's a lot more going on in hockey, but compare basketball to soccer and tell me there's a huge difference (soccer is still better though).

That said I don't care as much for basketball either, though I would still watch it over football and definitely baseball, which is my absolute least favorite sport. So incredibly boring. It's kinda cool when they hit the ball with a bat but that doesn't happen frequently enough to keep me entertained.

Anyway easy NHL vote. No better sport exists. The level of skill, physicality, and teamwork ethic hockey players have is incredible.
Let me rephrase a bit. Basketball is 95% of the time "run across the court with the ball and try to get the ball in, and the other team will either recover the rebound and repeat the process, or we score and the other team repeats the process". In hockey you will more often see plays where one team will get multiple scoring chances before the puck gets cleared, and due to the icing rule, you can't just rifle the puck to the other team's side without forcing a faceoff in your own zone. The game is much more dynamic and interesting as a result.

I say this as someone who voted for him in the 2 previous elections before the last one, and think that the people making a big deal of the blackface picture are the worst kinds of pearl clutching cancel culture social media addicts

Changing things up a bit, the Ontario provincial election is coming up, and is looking to be one of the most one-sided elections in decades:

https://338canada.com/ontario/

It's hilarious to me that the Liberal (left of center) party has just completely given up because they keep losing candidates to cancel culture, and as a result we're going to have another term of the fat, useless brother of the late, drug addict mayor of Toronto. Somehow Dougie Ford managed to be the best option after completely bungling the provincial response to COVID.

If they are going to flat out fire any candidate that has ever used a bad word on social media, they are never going to have a candidate under the age of 40.

Your first point seems to miss the entire gist of my point, which is that the cases that get enough public attention are the ones that get dealt with. Obviously there are cases that happen that we aren't aware of, noone is arguing that.

The second point is also silly, since all labour unions are heavy political donors, which is another great reason why they are a blight

Hockey is by far the best mainstream sport. Football is boring with the stop and go nature and the CONSTANT commercial breaks. Baseball is entertaining in a relaxing way, but is much better in person than on TV. Basketball I just find boring at its core. At the NBA level, it's just a bunch of guys running back and forth from one end to the other, shooting the ball into the net and hoping that the other team misses so they can get a point up on them. That may be my ignorance of the depth of the game, but at a surface level it's like watching paint dry. Soccer is just too slow paced and suffers from some of the issues that basketball does where it's less about making good plays and more about hoping that key players on the other team make a mistake (especially penalty kicks which are unbearable to watch)

Explain how so? Any time a case of police incompetence gets enough mainstream attention, the hammer absolutely gets brought down on them, sometimes to levels that don't make sense given the crime committed. The BLM riots, Jan 6 riot and all the "trucker convoys" over the last 2 years have show that the police are very much scared of people "rising up"

What are your thoughts on wage stagnation with no end in sight? Also there can be unions that don't protect outright bad employees. It is a harsh reality in my country that the wealth gasp is crippling and the ability to collectively bargain has to be a part of that. I would hope that any decent union could gain more money for its employees than union dues owed after all. I feel as if not every union is designed around keeping every bad employee.
Wage stagnation is a proven fact, there is no argument there. Unions are not the solution. There is no easy solution here as the correct one would be to have all western countries agree to corporate taxation that eliminates tax havens and loop holes. The problem there is places like Ireland/Luxembourg/Isle of Man etc. make an absolute killing by offering low tax rates, money that they otherwise would not have.

In a perfect world, closing corporate tax loopholes, adding in higher taxation for capital gains/income over a certain level, and implementing a minimum wage that is tied to the rate of inflation are the solutions to wage stagnation.

While we're at it we need to add to every high school curriculum and explanation of how the financial system works, including an explanation about how Elon Musk doesn't actually have "eleventy bajillion dollars" because I find a lot of the people that push for these policies get so bogged down in complete ignorance that they do their arguments a huge disservice.

Normal work unions are designed to protect workers from the predatory practices of their employers/superiors.

Police have no employers/superiors to need to be protected from. They ARE their own boss. Thus, in practice, all a police union does is fight to keep them from being held accountable in court/etc. for their actions.
This is false on a bunch of levels. The "employer/superiors" of the police are the government. Ultimately the employers/superiors of the government are the people. Police unions protect individual officers who are garbage/incompetent at their jobs from facing any of the consequences that should fall on them. I truly feel if organizations like BLM focused on this point (along with stringent body cam regulations), they would have found far more support. Instead they pushed a nebulous and nonsensical "defund the police" narrative that was further confused by other groups pushing for "more mental health psychology majors" and less armed/trained officers.

I have not and I agree some policies in some unions aren't great. But also without unions I'm the US we wouldn't have a third of our labor laws. Unions are not perfect but their erosion in the US (which is also a difference. Labor unions have weakened while police unions have grown stronger) has led to horrible workers conditions and wage stagnation.
Labour unions have weakened because the things they fought for and achieved have been codified into laws and regulations. I am 100% on board with the work unions did from the 1900s to the 1960s or so in terms of worker safety, working standards, etc. My point is that in 2022, with all of these things handled by the government and legal system, labour unions don't serve a purpose anymore. You could make the argument that they are needed to push back against corporate interests eroding the labour laws that are currently in place, but I think the better approach is to protest those attempts, and if they succeed bring back labour unions. Why should people be forced to pay union dues so that the 90% of the workforce are forced to cover for the laziest 10%?

I think it is a terrible idea that opens a pandora's box of every financially irresponsible person making arguments for why their car/home/credit card/gambling debts should also be forgiven. There is a huge problem with the fact that colleges are allowed to charge so much for tuition which should be looked at and fixed, but at the end of the day, if you are going to school for a major that has zero job prospects, and you don't have a way to pay back the loans, you shouldn't be taking them out. I don't see why the people who paid their debts, used their degree to get a good job and pay taxes, have to be punished because someone signed up for a 4 year philosophy degree at an out of state school, partied for 2 years then dropped out to work a minimum wage job.

Also, 2 pages of people arguing about the arbitrary "teenager" versus "young adult" use in a single media article instead of questioning why the US is the only country in the world that has a problem with constant, never-ending mass shootings?

This isn't even an issue of white supremacy, since only a portion of these mass murders are done by supremacists. Leftists using these situations to push idpol arguments are almost as bad as the right wingers that use the same situations to argue for even MORE relaxing of gun laws. The root of this problem is guns. Guns. Guns. Full stop, end of sentence. Guns. Why is it that an 18 year old psychopath can just walk over to his local Walmart and pick up extremely lethal weapons? If you found a way to magically wish away racism and white supremacists tomorrow, it still doesn't solve the root issue at play here.

They can allocate funds for the police elsewhere. They already have entirely too much money that's spend on bullshit they don't need. But none of this matters because Joe Biden had no intent to change anything about cops as they are, and he won't do anything to actually tangibly change it.

And shoveling more money at them won't fix anything if they can't make it work with the exorbitant amount of money they have. If you think the money wouldn't be completely misused then I don't know what to tell you. But as always, the police union is the major issue and nothing changes until they force changes on their reach.

There is literally no reason to give cops MORE money.
While I agree that the hilarious over equipping of police in the US with military surplus is stupid on so many levels, at the same time, the thing we need is more cops with more accountability, not less cops and a bunch of useless "psyche 101" students trying to provide "mental health services" to hardened and violent criminals.

I knew, from the god damn jump that Joe Biden would just be shoveling money at the police under the guise of "look we're improving them actually!"

But this is actually so fucking gross and Biden and his administration are fucking assholes. What is throwing MORE money at them going to do to improve the obvious issues with them? What training do they need to solve their systemic issues that they can't allocate the already bloated funds they have to focusing on THAT?

Christ alive, this asshole went into this election promising to fix the systemic issues with cops, provided NO suggestions or solutions until he was finally pressed on it and went "We just got to teach them to shoot people in the leg, Jack!" And he pretends now like there is no problem with the law enforcement. It's no longer an issue! Just hire MORE cops and spend MORE money on this broken fucking system that oppresses people. The issues with it are no longer an issue to them because he got the election.

Throw literally any thunder or fucks to give at ANYTHING else right now. ANYTHING. Just something other than we need more policing while people are dying of Covid and women's rights are being ripped away and babies can't get formula and inflation and the environment.

https://twitter.com/POTUS/status/1525257398163759110?t=Js1zY2hTIk5tC_JX-p-xrg&s=19

I don't follow this pearl clutching. The problems with police in the US are the lack of accountability and oversight. The only fixes for these problems are busting of police unions which exist for the sole purpose of protecting bad cops, and enforcing body cams with incredibly strict requirements, so we have an accurate log of any interaction. Both of these solutions require additional money, especially since so much money has been allocated to useless "mental health" snake oil salesmen

I had a paper route when i was 13, and there was one house that always had a big German shephard tied up in their car port/back yard that would go absolutely insane when I went up the driveway. One day while I was riding my bike (they had a mailbox beside their driveway), I could hear him start barking and running up from the backyard, but I quickly realized he wasn't actually tied up that day. I tried to turn around and ride away, but he managed to take a giant bite out of my left calf before I could kick him in the face and hit him with my newspaper bag. Had to go to the hospital for cleaning and a precautionary rabies shot. The idiot owners offered to pay for the pants that were ripped and gave a generous tip and we left it at that. In retrospect, we should have made a bigger deal out of it and got the damn thing put down, but my parents didn't want to force the issue and I didn't particularly care at the time.

Declaring bankruptcy is also nonsensical. Maybe I was just raised with a sense of fiscal responsibility, but the idea of racking up a bunch of debt I can't reasonably pay back, and then expecting people to bail me out is just depressing. How can people like that live with themselves?

Wtf did Jada do, she rolled her eyes and you want her to be banned for 10 years lmao?
People have been cancelled for far less than this. She joined a cult and is pretty clearly abusive and/or gaslighting her cuckold husband

But if you offer a loan without interest on it, you are losing money to inflation. That's completely untenable. There is no difference between a lower income person taking massive student loans for a degree that has no employment value, and the same person taking out a massive loan for a "sweet car". Especially in 2022 where trades are in such high demand, the only people that should be enrolling in a philosophy degree are people with too much time/money on their hands.

Can someone explain how cancelling student debt is at all fair for the 90% of the tax paying population that have had zero issues paying back loans they have take out?

Are the people struggling with student loans exclusively people who spent tens of thousands of money they don't have to get a useless degree? If so, why is that at all anyone else's problem? What differentiates student loan debt from any other voluntary debt?

I agree that it was potentially bad optics to start off by saying "I'm going to nominate a black woman" -- but also, these people think it's "forced diversity" when a black person is in a commercial for Cheerios or whatever. You can't win that game and I sort of appreciate that Biden's not even bothering to play it.
Well, you win that game by not being obsessed with arbitrary groupings of people, but good luck trying to change people that have biases one way or the other

There are dozens of high level judges that align with Dem political views that are just as qualified as her, you can't pretend that her race/gender weren't key factors in making her the choice.

Again, I'm not disagreeing with the choice, she's perfectly qualified.

Nuclear for sure. I have faith that by the time we get to 2100, all the "B-b-b-but WINDMILLS" people will have realized that renewables aren't enough to provide enough power for our increasing energy needs, and by then all of the established coal/oil/gas suppliers will have been forced out.

Nuclear is the obvious solution to all of our problems, we just need to convince the dumbest/loudest 20% of the population.

Good to see a Supreme Court nomination go through without several months of bickering, she seems like a good choice although the optics of forcing diversity won't do the democrats any favour. Then again, most of the people that are shouting from the rooftops about this weren't going to vote for them anyways

How does Radical Dreamers play? Is it a Zork style text adventure that's completely inpenetrable, or is it more of a "visual novel" for lack of a better term? I feel like I tried a fan translated ROM of it decades ago but I remember literally nothing about it

Star Wars and Mass Effect are not at all "westerns". Well I suppose the first season of The Mandalorian took a lot of influence from the genre, but nothing else.

Useless consumable spells, the complete lack of Techs, and the elemental system just made battles a chore, then you add in the fact that there's no level progression meaning if you get stuck in certain areas/bosses, there's no way for you to level up and sometimes the only option is to restart or revert to an old save if you're lucky enough to have one. I'm looking at you Miguel
