Brand is really a matter of preference (just avoid any no-namers) but I'd suggest get an 11th or 12th gen i5, or 4th gen or higher Ryzen 5, with 16GB RAM. You don't need discrete graphics. Ryzen will be slightly better for gaming, especially if it's 6th gen.

The transmission itself consumes a fair bit of fuel. Also, older automatics at least tended to only have four gears, while manuals of the same age would usually have five (not counting reverse for either type). This meant the manual could be gear-matched to the speed a bit more accurately. On top of all that, it's possible to pick your gears in a manual specifically for fuel efficiency (conversely, you can also pick them in a way that's wasteful as fuck on fuel, but gets you to a high speed very quickly), whereas autos aren't very flexible in this regard and just do whatever they're designed to do.

Really depends on the specific matter. I think GameFAQs has gone in the right direction on this for the most part, though there are still aspects that are ridiculous.

True. We're at the point now where integrated graphics can carry a gaming system if you aren't worried about turning everything up super high (especially with the Ryzen 6000 series). My next PC will likely be my first one in a long time without a discrete GPU thanks to this, assuming they hurry up and make Ryzen 6800U models available here...

Newer will almost always be better, but a generation or two behind - especially the higher end models - will still hold up for a long time. And likely be cheaper, especially once the newer gen is out.

Which is more important to you? People having access or people abusing it? FYI, virtually any type of means testing or fraud check is going to have failures and end up denying those who need it.

So then, don't do it via means testing. Do it by monitoring the spending of recipients. Ask stores to flag transactions where a person uses food stamps alongside spending enough of their own money that they clearly didn't need the extra support. Those who don't abuse it won't get flagged, or if mistakenly flagged, will be cleared when it's double checked. Enough abusers get caught and prosecuted, eventually that creates a deterrent to abuse - assuming the penalty is meaningful.

Which on a side note, will also mean more funding remains available for those who do genuinely need it, once the abusers get locked out. But that probably doesn't matter to those who only care that as many people as possible receive something, whether or not they need it at all and/or whether or not, if they do need it, they receive enough of it...

Otherwise, if your logic really is "just give people cash no strings attached", perhaps you should focus your efforts on a push for UBI or similar rather than just "ignore abuse of a system that's meant for those in need".

What do you want to do on it? Gaming? Dev work? Just browsing the web / YouTube to kill time?

Especially if it's just a backup device for when you're on the go / when the power goes out, you can save a lot here by not buying one that does more than you need. In the extreme case of only using it for basic online activity, it's even worth considering a tablet. (Not just for the lower cost, but tablets tend to have better battery life too.)

When everyone who actually has relevant experience is saying you're wrong, perhaps it's time to consider if your sources are either lying, or more likely, have limitations in their accuracy (for starters, how exactly did they determine their figure? Self-reporting by people who will obviously be very honest about their abuse of the system? Only counting those who got caught? Etc)

If you have worked as one, you'll understand that while it's far from the majority of cases, it's a very real thing nonetheless.

It's great to see struggling parents use (the local equivalent of) them to get the food / etc they really needed.

It's not so great to see someone buy three boxes of beer with their own money, then spend their food grant on whatever the most expensive, junk-est food they're allowed to buy with it is.

So... yeah, great that such systems exist, but they need to tighten up on abuse of it by those who don't actually need it.

I believe 100km/h is roughly equivalent to 60m/h? (The majority of our roads have a limit of 100 or less, though there's a very small number where the limit is 110.)

Complicating things a bit, excessive speed of up to 10km/h over the limit is usually tolerated in most cases, but apparently not on the 110 roads, meaning in practice they're not any different from the 100 roads.
