True, but I'm just talking about the initial step. Having to go look for someone to be with. If it's not in the context of a date/prospective partner, and instead just to relieve stress, then it feels more like just an arrangement between two people rather than anything meaningful. Of course it could develop into that, but that comes after.

I called it that because unless you specifically go on a date you're simply arranging to meet for other reasons. A hookup, in my mind doesn't fit as a date or pursuing each other for more than physical intimacy. So using something like Reddit to find such a person feels more like a transactional agreement rather than something more.

It's a far more appealing option than hiring a prostitute to take my virginity though. But it's still not ideal... I want to be wanted. To be able find a partner outside of arranging it specifically just to get something out of the way.

That was more of an analogy of being left out irl. There's not much more an online only person can do. In the example I used, the people were physically available to help and didn't. You'd be more of a voice on the radio or something. Someone to help keep spirits up but not available to help outside of talking.

Depending on what you're after, there are also other online options besides apps. Over the years I've had hookups from craigslist, doublelist, locanto, and even reddit! Plus some kink-oriented sites that I'm not sure I can post about. (Although craigslist isn't really functional anymore, and locanto has also gone downhill.) These are better for sex. Not so good for traditional dating, although there's still some of that too. But it's a whole different approach where you don't need to bother with profiles and swiping left/right and so forth.

I'd still say you need to be open-minded and have a positive attitude even if you're going for no-strings hookups. But it might be worth considering for people just trying to get any break into the dating world.

I've considered similar options... And they just just kinda feel sleazy. It's probably still the best bet for someone like me, I'd just rather have a connection over an arrangement. You know what I mean?

Men who are successful with women go out of their way and out of their comfort zone. They learn to deal with rejection and continue to try. They try other methods like meet ups, striking up conversations, etc Which is commendable really. Dating is freaking hard. But many men who arent successful havent tried anything beyond what theyre comfortable with. Which is either nothing or hiding behind an app and hoping for the best.

For a lot of us the dating apps are out of our comfort zones when we try. It's not really fair that you get to decide what our comfort zones should be, and we how hard we should try to impress just to get the following outcome...

Would any of the things you suggest trying prevent that "just cause" from happening? No, it wouldn't. How many hoops does your friend have to jump through to have a chance at getting a date? If she is pretty, and rich, and a hard worker, and confident, and is a good talker, is interesting and funny, but every guy passes on her "just because." Don't you think that'd bother her? Then it's not a temporary problem, it's always. Whether in person, at a meet up, with a dating app. Doesn't matter, she gets passed over, for decades. Would that not eventually lead her to believe theirs something wrong with her in particular? But it turns out the men just didn't see enough effort from her to impress them?

Edit: Is that not just a little unfair? That's the exact reason I say women have it easier, they get to pick and choose and it doesn't really matter to them unless they pick a bad one. While men have to not only be handsome, rich, successful, easy to talk to, funny, outgoing, charming, protective, strong, but also have to deal with that still not being good enough just because. Then you have average looking guys and ones less financially secure, or guys who've been hurt in the past so it's difficult for them open up... But those hoops are still there, and they're still expected to jump even if it's still guaranteed they'll be passed over.

Exactly. They think back on any time they struggled a bit, or went a long time single and think they know what loneliness is. Think that they know rejection. They don't seem to realize how hard it is to deal with true rejection, of absolutely NO ONE EVER being willing to accept you. "Don't be afraid of rejection" we're not, we're living in a constant state of it and after so long it wrecks your mind.

Hope is nice and all, but without truly understanding the problem it often feels superficial. As for the advice... Well, imagine being stranded in the ocean. There's no land anywhere in sight, and you've been there for months. People often drive by in boats and the only help they offer is to tell you not to give up. That you can find land eventually if you try hard enough. The problem could be solved by someone deciding to actually accept you and pick you up, but they all have reasons to not want to invite you onto their boat. So you keep looking for land, for as long as you can, and there isn't any sign of it any where. Then more people stop and tell you that you need to paddle harder, or try a new direction with no indication that any direction is better than another. Then we just get blamed when that advice doesn't pan out and they get insulted by our failure to save ourselves and leave.

I think you are overthinking and self sabotaging yourself. Online dating sucks and is very difficult for a majority of people. Unfortunately it's kind of the best way to get connected in this day and age.

Have you tried multiple apps? Some of the popular ones like Tinder are horrible and you could easily get the wrong idea using just one app.

I am no guru but maybe share some of your online bios? An outside perspective can help.

I tried okcupid back before they changed it, Tinder, and Bumble. I can't show the profiles because I deleted/closed them years ago. But they were just regular bios, a few pics, mentioning my job, what I like to do, and expressing that I'd like to meet people for friends and see how things go from there.

I tend to get lots of matches, but once I message that's it. Nothing. I generally would look through their profile and either ask about a hobby, their pets, or job if it seemed interesting. Like one worked at a radio station and I thought that was neat, so I asked what kind of stuff she does at her job and if she likes it. Got nothing... Then I matched the same girl on tinder a few weeks later. This time I asked what she likes to do for fun. No response. That's how they all go.

Yeah, my 39th birthday is just a couple of weeks away. I have a few excuses on why I struggle, but they're just that... excuses. Abuse and mental trauma, sure, I can see why that's turn someone away... If anyone ever got close enough to see the damage. Depression is truly wrecking me at the moment, but I know how to mask it(unless I'm online, it's so much easier to be open online). Social anxiety disorder makes it insanely difficult to meet people and interact with them, so this is the only one that really has a bearing on things... Yet online dating takes that out of the picture,cat least at first. And I still fail. It's not like we talk and decide we're not a good match, or go on a date and don't click. It's just that no one wants to be with me. Whatever the problem is, I must telegraph it so hard that everyone knows I'm not worth it without checking any deeper. There's just something inherently wrong with me, with who I am or something. They see that and move on, and I can't even blame them for it.

We weren't allowed knives, even little pocket knives. But his mom was a teacher, the football coach was their best friend, he was the football star and all the teachers and students worshipped him for it. Guess he thought I'd be impressed that he had it, and maybe be intimidated by him. At that point in my life he would've been doing me a favor, so I wasn't exactly afraid. Half the time I'd arrive home I'd be threatened with worse. Besides, if he went through with it, I'd have maybe a minute of pain while he faced a life in prison? Seemed like he wouldn't throw his life away to take mine. I was right. I was cringing at his edginess the whole time I was finishing the errand. Still roll my eyes at it when I remember. lol

Guy in high school wanted to be the pink Power Ranger so bad that he couldn't stand it. Was always doing mock battles and stuff. Pretending to be her and acting out. I thought he was just being silly for a while, but it lasted through graduation and from what I hear even after. So, idk. Guess he was larping but it was just him.

Guy in my math class freshman year the teacher kept partnering me with threatened to bring a gun to school and shoot me.

One of my HS teachers sent me on an errand for her. So I was in the hallway between classes. One of my classmates went to his locker next to mine. Then he suddenly turned and pushed me against the wall and put a hunting knife to my throat. Said he'd slit my throat and just go back to class. So I told him to do it then. He just stared at me for a few seconds, guess he was expecting me to be afraid. He put the knife away and walked off.

I don't feel any resentment or anything towards women. That all bounces back onto myself for not being good enough.

I'd like to try it one day.

Originally thought it was Ease. Then realized it might be Wise. Been going with Wise since it makes more sense.

Mine used to greet us at the door with a pistol and basically interrogate us. Trying to catch us in a lie about where we'd been. He had bullets with our initials on them for when he decided he was done with us.

Also, when he was in his lower 20's he got angry at his brother and tried to gun him down. Only managed to shoot through his leg though. Apparently no one reported it out of fear of what he'd do if they did. I only just learned of that about 6 months ago.

He literally believes that he is untouchable and king of our lives. Fortunately, it hasn't been a living hell for quite some time. I've had a few years of him being a semi reasonable person with just occasional flare ups.

Thats all the time they needed to tell their story for that episode. No need to pad something out for the sake of padding it out.

It's entertainment, it's supposed to fill time. Also, if you removed all the "padding" from episode one it'd be like 2 minutes long.

It'd start with them crashing and his blood getting on her arm and transforming. She'd wake up at his place, where she realizes she has hulk powers. He claims she needs training, but she says she's not interested and leaves.

Because that's all they needed to show to tell the story from episode one. Bam, 1-2 minute shorts like the I am Groot miniseries.
