The theater was PACKED, and I mean not a single empty seat, even the front row seats which almost nobody sits in was packed. When the opening crawl appeared the audience cheered. Everything was fine at first, but not long after Qui Gon and Obi Wan landed on Naboo people started to get up and leave. I thought to myself wow, they really should have used the bathroom before the movie began., oh little did I know. As the movie progressed more and more people got up throughout the film, at around the Pod Racing scene I remember thinking wow, it feels like its been three hours but only an hour has gone by. Finally Darth Maul appeared in the climax, but I wasnt invested in the characters at all, I also thought to myself Qui Gon was a huge part of this movie, and Obi Wan is supposed to train Anakin, what are the odds he dies here? Sure enough he did. I also remember thinking wow the climax of the film involves the antagonist standing there dumbly watching Obi Wan leap over him slowly, what a let down (foreshadowing how terrible the climax of RotS would be). The lights went on and I looked to discover over two thirds of the packed theater got up and left, and didnt return. Ive never seen a walk out of that magnitude since. --- "I'm a Republican damn it!
