I really feel bad for the kids in this situation. To me it sounds like everyone involved has some issues. Personally I put more blame on the married guy in this situation, but the whole thing is no bueno.

I would be careful about calling your marriage fake because technically if it was indeed a fake marriage than you are admitting to committing fraud against the US government by receiving additional benefits while you were in the army for being married.
